[TRAILHEAD] The Jejune Institute

Has anyone looked into this yet?
http://www.despoiler.org/2008/10/01/is-public-works-an-oxymoron/#more-71

Seems intriguing, Fringe-esque.
Here's their official website:
http://jejuneinstitute.org/index.htm

Game on.

That Octavius Coleman is one trippy dude. I sent an email looking for info, but no word back yet. I wonder if this will lead to anything.

The Jejune Institute / EPW
(probably not an arg)

I have been to the 'induction'. This may not be an ARG per se, however, I can recommend both the Institute and the experience. Do exactly what the message (phone) says. Go to the site, and tell the receptionist: 'I am here for the Jejune Institute'. The rest will follow as a matter of course.

A few suggestions (there are no fees or donations asked by the institute):

Bring:
warm and cool clothing
$1.00 + tax
.50 cents (for a phone call, later) or your cell phone.
A bottle of water.
A small notebook.

There's a post on craigslist from someone who went to the Institute. There are a couple others that have expired/been removed. Found by Googling 'to those dark horses'.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/mis/850641569.html

The phone number doesn't tell you much beyond that your call is important, to visit their San Francisco office, and to visit their website. Stuck in CT, can't check it out.

The address is legit, according to google maps.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.
I've joined Jejune's email list, and found a website for the
Elsewhere Public Works
that started this whole thing on Despoiler. I haven't called the number there yet. Emailed, but no response yet.

Also, and this could just be a SF thing I'm unaware of, but one of the tags on the Jejune website was "Timecraft Loading Anchor 13" which I found an image on flickr of here, that was only posted 5 days ago, so it fits the timeline, but the guy who posted it seems to have been on flickr much longer. Don't know how/if this fits in yet...

Hey everyone, I've decided to take the day off, so I'm heading over there now. I'll see what kind of picture I can get, etc. So, wish me luck. I'll be back with more soon!!

Yaha, wishing you luck and hoping someone can explain what organelle meant by "$1.00 + tax " which sounds essential. Smile

I sent an email at infoSPLATjejuneinstitute.org

and i got a reply

Quote:
Esteemed inquirer,

Thank you for your interest in the Jejune Institute.
There are many resources at your disposal for learning more about our organization, but the very best way is to visit our induction center for a brief orientation session.
The center is located at 580 California Street, Suite 1607, San Francisco. Sessions are completely free and conducted on a 'drop-in' basis between the hours of noon and 5:30pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
If you have already visited the induction center, your decision is highly praised.
We expect you are experiencing an enhancement of your natural abilities and an increase in your intuition. As mentioned before, this program can lead to a sense of infinite discovery. You may suddenly begin to notice small things all around that you had never before noticed. And those minute details will lead to other more significant observations, and so on. Ad infinitum. Until your entire universe is transformed forever… We would also like to invite you to further your journey homeward by becoming a member of our Socio-Re-Engineering e-mail newsletter. To do so, simply send an email to enlightened-subscribeSPLATjejuneinstitute.org. By subscribing you will be informed of upcoming gatherings, lectures and seminars held by The Jejune Institute. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have further questions or if you were unable to complete your session, but be aware that sometimes the answers lie within. Blessedness to you on your path of discovery.

I noticed that the inspirational quotes at the top right side of the page changes when you click around their site. Actually, you can just refresh to get a different quote. There are a total of seven (from what I can tell) and they are:

Jejune Institute Love Guru wrote:
Hold the map close to your face. Breath into it and you will hear a river start.

General deconstruction of social modulation naturally results in heightened probability for civic mutation.

All great work is preparing yourself for the accident to happen.

There's the thing, and the name for the thing, and that's one thing to many.

The script remains unwritten...

To those dark horses with the spirit to look up & see... a recondite family awaits.

Our interest are on the dangerous edge of thigs; the honest thief, the tender murderer, the superstitious atheist.

Some of them seem pretty straightforward, but others seemed phrased strangely. I'll continue to look into it.

Also, the whois info on the site says it has only been around a few months, and if you want a head trippy good time, read through the products they're working on developing.

I found an email address in the head tag of http://elsewherepublicworks.com. peruSPLATnonchalance.com. I sent an email a few minutes ago. No response as of yet.

Nonchalance.com is an interesting site. It's a bunch of people, 28 in total, with the headline "Can you spot the nonchalant?" Clicking any of the people reveals a short bio and their nonchalance ratio. The numbers range from 3% (Jimmy Carter) to 110% (Saint Thaddeus). This site's head tags mention the jejune institute, so I'm confident it's related. The message from despoiler mentioned Jejune Institute faking nonchalance as well. Still piecing it all together, hopefully CaptKing's visit will prove fruitful.

EPWA Phone Number (1-888-717-7517)
One of the more entertaining automated menus you'll listen to.

I called the number on the EPWA web page. I was answered by an automated recording that listed the hours of operation, then gave me a list of options.

The list (I may paraphrase a bit)
1. Nonchalance Viability (might be liability) Surveys
2. International Shoelace Recycling Program
3. Register visions, prophecies, or dreams with patent department
4. Hear the sound of a baby chinchilla
5. Lost or mismatched sock identification and return program
6. File a claim of microwave harassment or pharmaceutical mind control.
7. Register for apocalypse preparedness class (postponed indefinitely)

There are also town hall meetings in the basement of a building, I didn't catch the exact time or location, though. On a Thaddeus street, I believe, which caught my ear because of the superbly nonchalant saint. Otherwise I couldn't glean much info.

Hey everyone! Just got back from the city... let me say THAT was interesting!

I took some pictures and video. So, let me load up all of the stuff, and I can see where this takes us.

I couldn't find out MUCH, BUT I did find out one thing:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
we are going to have to wait 15 days until anything new happens

Got an email from Bobby Peru (peruSPLATnonchalance.com).
This was his message.

Quote:
