Good writing, for one. Unique character and plot ideas, for another. Character development helps. I guess just being creative and not really formulaic OH NO THIS CREEPY TALL GUY NOW I'M GOING CRAZY OPERATOR SYMBOL, haha.

I think making sure you know where your story is going in advance is also a must.

I don't really follow blogs that much but personally I'd like to see buildup and subtlety, it shouldn't be obvious from the layout or the first few posts that it's a Slender blog (unless it's a parody I guess) And be one or two blog posts already made ahead of time so you're disappearing for too long because of writer's block

A well developed story, no matter the setting, will appeal to the audience. As long as your idea is clear, it is concise, it follows some semblance to the general theories of Slendy that are out there, and you've planned and developed your story, you should be fine.

And what I mean by general theories is pretty simple, you're slendy can have something unique to you, in my opinion. But don't go so far out of his norms, you know?

I have been following a few other blogs just to get the idea, I dont want to be creating an entirely new universe, I love the version of the slenderverse built up with "The tutorial" "seeking truth" and "dreams in darkness" etc.

I have dabbled in writing in the past and I do drama in my spare time so I can appreciate the importance of charectorization. But thanks guys, I dont want this to be a failure xD

I think a lot of blogs have trouble when they want to put all their great ideas out there right away. I get the urge and I fall prey to it myself in my writing, but your story really needs a bit of a runup before all the crazy shit starts going down. Yes, creepiness in the beginning can be good-- but in something like a blog, a little goes a long way. Do not satisfy your audience fully; the idea is to get them to come back for more. Subtlety is a very useful tool, and more effective in establishing your story and characters than "OMG SLONDORMON EVEYRHWR"

In the same vein: show, don't tell. This just means that you shouldn't have to tell the audience EXACTLY what your character is thinking, or have them elaborate on every aspect of their personality. How they write, how they present their lives on the internet speaks volumes about them. Of course, have them introduce themselves. Let them show who they think they are, and then show us who they really are by how they live and how they show it to the 'net.

Good luck on your blog. Smile

Hey

I don't have an Unfiction account yet, but I do follow a couple Slender-stories (both vlog and blogs) and I think there are a couple things you should note when starting your own.

1) Have a general plotline thought out. Make sure you have an ending already written (and a couple posts leading up to it).

2) Characterization, characterization. Characterization? Characterization!

3) Be subtle. Slender man is at it's scariest when it is just there. Watching. Always watching.

4) Start out slow. Establish a line of normality (who your characters are when nothing is happening/how they usually act). This is especially important when making one of those apocalyptic logs.

5) I'd also suggest having a kinda fixed update schedule (2-3 entries per week) and also a couple filler entries already written (in case you can't update for some reason or you just don't have any ideas and time is tight).

6) Be careful when doing blog-hijacks. A lot of these seem kinda silly.

7) Try to be original. Don't use the (x) symbol, don't use the TribeTwelve one. (I'd suggest that if possible don't use one of these at all but try to have something else as recurring theme.)

8 ) If you're going to have ARG elements, then make sure that some characters would interact with the public. Oh and when interacting, try to know beforehand what you're going to talk about.

Other than that, I'm looking forward to it. Good luck and have fun!

(And another thing. This time for me. Please point out any grammar errors, awkward wordings and "we don't really speak like that"-isms. I'm trying to improve my English. Although I'm posting as Guest, I'm following this thread and I'd be really grateful.)

Anyway, I think your english is pretty good. Although mine sucks, so my opinion might not be right.

I'm not sure if you are familiar with seeking truth, The Tutorial etc. but these do have the operator symbol within them, I am inclined to base myself in a universe where those are fact. Also my charector...although currently living a normal life was a bit messed up in his earlier life, Though that stuff wont make sense unless you read it xD But thanks guys, all this advice rocks guys, especially you, guest who I now love (I am making your fanclub Razz )

One thing that I noticed that is about half and half about blogs now, is that the character needs a reason to start a blog. Just saying, "Oh, I'm starting a blog to document my normal life." seems so... pointless. Saying "I'm starting a blog to document the growth of my new plant." may be weird, but it's less suspicious.

My understanding of the issue (some folks' twitchiness about the symbol) is that it originated in Marble Hornets, and its meaning in MH is still unclear and under debate, so when it shows up in Blog X with a clear meaning of Slenderepellent, it's at odds with reader/viewer's MH-specific theories and jars them out of the story.

Also, it's a quick and easy shortcut for pointing out that this is a Slenderman story, when taking the long and creepy route would be more effective. But YMMV, of course. Smile

I have Seeking Truth and The Tutorial bookmarked, waiting for future reading. I didn't notice your post where you said that your blog will be in that universe. Sorry.

For you character - well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see what you'll come up with.

I don't think I've ever had a fanclub before. Thanks Smile

The second theory. I don't really mind being at odds with Marble Hornets theories (I actually got into Marble Hornets from the legendary Something Awful thread, so Marble Hornets itself was at odds with some of the theories), but I do mind when it's used to quickly confirm that what you're reading is, in fact, a slenderblog. Cheap way out is never the good one.

@mokie I always thought of the mark as multipurpose I mean in The Mystic (the continuation of seeking truth) He mentions proxies using the symbol as something against the protaganists (I.E carving them into peoples chests and then letting them leave alive, but in agony :S )

I already have thought about that, my charector has made it by his therapists request so that is all sorted Razz
