...are you gimmie20dollaz? I swear to God, you're acting just like him.

We do not care what the news was. Stop being a pretentious douchebag and listen to what we are saying to you. Stop posting about this.

And if people want to see that news then they'll go to Jeff's blog and check it out for themselves. For the people who don't want to check his blog, all shall be revealed when EverymanHYBRID is over.

Look, I think at the heart this is a culture clash. UFictioners don't need or really want to see OOG stuff in our forum. There's nothing wrong with you keeping up with that, but please respect the other forum members and keep it to yourself. If you want to talk about it, do it on Tumblr or another OOG space where that is acceptable.

There's a good point to this. I /knew/ about the update to Jeff's Tumblr today, because I was /responsible/ for that update. I asked him the question, he answered. But I have the good sense to only talk about it where people know that spoilery things happen, e.g. NOT HERE.

Boy, you guys sure are taking shit seriously. If what happened on UnForum was not empirically shown to be the most important shit in the history of human civilization, a very occasional poster and frequent lurker like myself might think you were all extra butt-hurt for no good reason.

It's interesting that so many people have decided to rally behind Jeff as though they know him personally and are trying to protect his privacy. Why, exactly, would the man have a publicly visible blog pertaining to behind-the-scenes stuff if he didn't want people to see it? And even if he doesn't want people to see it, well, sorry bro, you voluntarily put your private life on display via a public blog. So it goes. I suspect this has much more to do with you not wanting to know about things before they happen, which is fine, and can be solved by... not... reading... the... blog...

Anyway, I'm back to lurking and waiting for something else to happen. Cheers.

I can only speak for myself, but I already knew about all this. What I object to is seeing it here, as well as the fact that Phenom is advertising this stuff without Jeff's say-so.

I'm not gonna RAAAAGE but does it even make sense to post this here? Phenom wants to "cover every OOG post the authors make" because it's "important news for the mythos"?
The blog(s) is/are public for a reason, but there is never, ever a reason for you to repost everything they talk about as if it's somehow related to Slenderman.

Wow, people in this thread are dicks.

Jeff obviously doesn't care about people knowing about his OOG blog. His reasonabe expectation of privacy vanished when he purposely put up an April Fool's Day video and started freely communicating with the fans on the blog. It's a public location. And he has never shown any irritance with people knowing about it.

Phenom posted this thread because you guys are tired of him posting in the main thread. That is acceptable. He wants to have a thread where we specifically discuss the out of game stuff. Why can't we have that on Tumblr? Probably because it's not as conducive to a good conversation as a forum thread is. I see no problem with this.

So how is this thread spamming? You choose whether to go to it or not. You don't have to look at it.

So explain it to me like I'm five years old: why isn't this thread okay? Why are you white-knighting to Jeff's defense? Who gives a fuck? More importantly:

We do not care what the news was. Stop being a pretentious douchebag and listen to what we are saying to you. Stop posting about this.

Phenom, put it this way: You're an I-DI-OT. Stop being stupid. Get the permission or gtfo.

No, Phenom, you don't get it. We want you to STOP. STOP. STOP.

I hereby retract my earlier statement. You are brainless.

Why are you such a dick, SickSlickMan?

Take a chill pill guys. I 100% support this thread.

But I wanna be butthurt too!

I don't see what the big deal about this thread existing is. My one criticism is that just posting links to every post on tumblr is kind of silly.

I don't know what we are yelling about!

I guess that I'll chalk all of the attention that this is getting to the relative quietness of EMH, TT, and MH at the moment - us forumer types need an outlet for our bickering and having conflicting opinions on small details after all.

LOUD NOISES!

Also for this bs about permission to post here - shouldn't EVERY bit of media on this site fall under that same rule? Every blog, twitter, youtube video, geocached box, telekinetic message, and in game tumblr - how are any of those different in terms of having the right to repost them?

Sorry, why ought Phenom get permission from Jeff to link to his public blog on a public forum again? Check this out. Daily, I check out CNN.com, because I live outside of the United States and I want to know what's happening back home. Know what I do when I see an article that I find interesting and I want to share it with friends? This:

http://edition.cnn.com/

You know what I do not do? I do not send an email requesting permission from Ted Turner. I just link. Because it's a public site containing no sensitive private information. If your criticism of Phenom was that he was posting OOG info in the main IG thread, well congrats, he stopped doing that. But under no circumstances does he need permission. This smacks of the sort of forum group-think that encourages false user hierarchy and internet tough-guyism to breed unchecked.

All of which is to say that it's hilarious to watch self-imposed authority figures throw their weight around as though they have some actual clout, but it sucks to watch somebody who's not doing anything wrong (or is, at best, making the eensiest of faux pas) get shat on by the aforementioned inflated egos.

Geez, you guys need to calm down, I might be late to the party, but this topic was made to remove the OOG stuff from IG topics. Even if it's lousy made, that's not a reason to flame the OP. Confused

For someone who initially came in expressing distaste for the symptoms of our Wrong On the Internet Syndrome, you seem to have caught on to the groove pretty well. Also, lacing your arguments with accusing people of being "self-imposed authority figures" and trying to create a "false user hierarchy" not only 1) gives us way too much credit (we couldn't organize our way out of a paper bag) but 2) puts you on the level that you were trying to avoid. If its so hilarious, why are you getting angry instead of just laughing at us? Don't forget yourself and start taking this too seriously. Wink

In response, I'll requote myself:

I didn't realize I was coming off as particularly angry, and if I seemed RAAAAAGE-y, my apologies, not at all my intentions. I am, as you suggested, happy to laugh at you, though, if given the opportunity.

Anyway, as an answer to my initial question, because now I'm legitimately curious: why should anyone get permission from the site-owner before posting a link to their public site?

The reason Slick reacted so strongly is that he and I both know that there are, in fact, other authors who would be seen on Jeff's page who use their Tumblrs mostly, if not solely, for communication between other authors and personal friends, with strong overlap between the two. Jeff's privacy is our primary concern, but it's not the only one; we don't know whether those other authors consider their pages really "public."

And everyone knows that Slick is quick to insult people. Because he's Slick. Raging is what he does.
