Timeline Speculation
What happened when?

Based off of onetruepurple's idea in the Entry 40 thread, I felt that it would be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to figuring out when things across the series took place.

On the topic of 40, I'm in the party that believes it takes place some time before 38. Jay could have forgotten what happened.

Gah. Literally just posted the same exact thing in another thread with the same exact title.

I'll just move the information from that one to a post here.

HERE'S WHAT WE KNOW:

37 - Years before the series.

34 - During the 7 months.

35 - Some time after 34.

36 - Directly after 35.

39 - the week after 36.

40 - the day after 39.

That basically leaves 38 as an outlier, though we can assume it takes place some time after entry 35, since Jay is with Alex.

copy/pasting from the other thread. hopefully you guys can break this down so we can get a clear cut timeline figured out

entry 37 can come first since it's alex as a baby

the first entry chronologically is entry 5 (scouting for film locations). then entry 12 occurs (filming and seeing slendy in the distance, alex doesn't seem worried at all). entry 20 (pre filming with tim and his cold) is right after this, then entry 17 takes place after 20 them filming in the house and slendys outside the window)

next comes entry 2 (talking about seeing slendy under a streetlight), leading into to entry 4 (playground), which possibly occurs right after 2. at this point alex develops slight paranoia.

then entry 13 (jay and alex filming at that building where alex walks into slendy around the corner) occurrs. i put this here because alex doesn't seem noticeably antsy, they were really just still looking for locations for the movie. he runs into slendy and books it

then entry 3 comes into play where alex starts taping himself after realizing this man he's seen a few times before is following him.

after this entry 7 occurrs (either brian or seth are with alex in the car filming when alex sees slendy)

sometime after this entry 9 occurs where they talk about alex's paranoia.

next come entries 8, 1,6, and 10 which i believe are all one footage split up into 4 parts. somehow the audio was removed mid entry 8. sometime before we see entry 8, alex realizes he's being stalked and begins to lose his mind, explaining his scribbling. the lamp is the only thing leading me to believe 8 and 1 are connected. entry 11 (slendy in the house without alex knowing, he moves while alex is sleeping and creates a lil breze) occurrs soon after this, possibly even right after 10.

at this point alex falls asleep one night and slendy enters his room (entry 14) and alex wakes up with blood all over his face. sometime after this they figure out that brian has went missing

him and seth go looking for brian in brians basement in entry 22 but they run into something (prob slendy) and seth goes missing as well.

alex moves away and gives jay the tapes. after watching jay conducts an interview with tim (entry 15) and then goes to brians house to look for them. 16, 18, 19, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26 occurr after this. (jay goes to the house/tower, moves, and realizes alex is still alive 3 years later)

so for season 1, my order is

5, 12, 20, 17, 2, 4, 13, 3, 7, 9, 8, 1, 6, 10, 11, 14, 22 (end alex tapes), 15, 16, 18, 19, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26

now for season 2

the earliest entry we see is 34, which has jay driving to the return address of the tape alex sent him. 35 is right after. then 36, then 38, 39, 40, and then 29.

entry 29 has no confirmed place on the timeline, but it would make sense that it comes right after 40.

next comes the start of the season, entry 27, which goes straight into 28. WE HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT JAY HAS A KEY IN HIS BAG, WHAT IS THE KEY FOR? next entries 30-33 come in order.

so far imo, season 2 goes:

34, 35, 36, 38, 39, 40, 29, (end of tapes) 27, 28, 30, 31, 32, 33
[/b]

and again, the only reason i place entry 38 before 40 is because jay doesn't say anything to alex about not showing up to rossdale park. also, the way jay looks at the tall chimney thing could be as a result of remembering alex's story.

for now, it's not set in stone

True, but it's not like Entry #38 starts with Jay meeting Alex for the first time since #36. The tape starts with them walking for a while, so Jay probably already asked him "why weren't you at Rosswood Park?"

In #36, Alex tells Jay to wait for him to call. He calls in #38.

Other than that, you timeline looks great. Hopefully we'll eventually be able to add ToTheArk's stuff, as well as Jay's twitter feed, the actual posting of entries, etc.

i will let you all do the tta/twitter stuff

again entry 38 is just speculation, to me jay seemed calm and i personally wouldn't be walking through the woods after encountering slendy there but that's just me

(I'm not too good at interpreting TTA's stuff, but I'll definitely handle the dates of all the Marble Hornets twitter posts and video uploads from both channels, but not necessarily the content in TTA's videos... in case any of that is important in revealing the dates)

Anyway, Jay was calm and that's a good point, along with the fact that he seemed bored with what Alex was talking about and called them "spooky ghost stories."

However, the tape was unlabeled and Entry #40 may be less than 2 weeks into the seven months. #38 could have been many months after #40, giving time for Jay to mellow out a bit. Let's look at what I mean...

Entry #26 - The Season 1 Finale. Uploaded on April 18th, 2010. Jay received the package on this day, too. The events of this tape is the last of what Jay was able to remember before waking up in the hotel.

Entry #34 - Wednesday, April 21st, 2010. (Explicitly stated by Jay while driving). Rainy day.
Entry #35 - No specified date. Most likely a different day, as the skies are clear and the plants are dry. (I'm guessing that it's the day after #34, April 22nd, 2010)
Entry #36 - Clearly the same day as Entry #35, not long after the incident with Tim.
Entry #39 - Stated in text as being "About a week after finding Alex in the abandoned house." (Approximately April 29th, 2010)
Entry #40 - The day after Entry #39.
By my estimation, Entry #40 takes place on April 30th, 2010.

...

Entry #27 - Posted on November 23rd, 2010. It likely occurred a day or two before, though.

I'm thinking speculating on where 29 fits in with all this is fairly pointless. I'm guessing something important happens after Alex's Magical Forest Tour of Happiness, which ends up leading to 29. But, there are issues with that, cause where did Jay get the chestcam?

Theoretically, if Alex is still playing for the winning team, he could've given Jay some things to help out (e.g. a camera you can't drop). The threatening story could have just been "You don't know what you're really getting in to. Let me show you and let you decide if you want to go home."

I think working with some dates is very sensible, Foood. I tried to draw up a timline a bit ago, I think we're pretty much in agreement.

There's one issue I have with the current (generally accepted) timescale that I brought up in another thread somewhere. Basically, in #39, Jay doesn't bat an eyelid at the mention of Rosswood Park. As we see in #40, he obviously finds his way there well enough.

But as we established at the start of series 2, this is miles from Jay's hometown. He had to discover Rosswood again after his memory loss, meaning he had no prior knowledge before his trip to find Alex. My point is, in entries 39 and 40, Rosswood Park seems to be a place Jay already knows about. If so... well, it probably means that he'd been there before. OK, so he's probably able to google it but is still seems to me hw was already familar with the place.

If this is right, where does the previous visit(s) fit into the whole thing? Perhaps 39 and 40 are later in the 7 months that we think. Perhaps I'm just way off...!

He was only far from his hometown when he woke up. The way Alex says "what do you know about this area" makes me think it's closer to where they normally live.

I doubt that, considering how Jay says he knows nothing about it.

I also don't think he knew more about Rosswood in 39/40 than just its name. He was driving around and sleeping in his car for over a week (over a week, which then would imply that the events of #40 would take place on at least May 1st, not April 30th (not that it's extremely important) ), I suppose he was a little familiar with the area by then.

It could be that Entry #38 was filmed close to where Alex filmed his original Marble Hornets film production as the set was "less than a mile away from his house" according to the Introduction video, which would explain Alex's "when I first moved here" story from Entry #38.
Jay may have moved to the college they attend from somewhere else so doesn't know as much of the local history/folklore as Alex does.

If this is the case it could mean that Entry #38 may have taken place quite some time after Entry #40 did, as Rosswood Park is a few days drive from where Alex lives going by Jay's Twitter posts. (That's assuming that Jay was in the Rosswood Park area during the "sllee pno.w" tweets)

It's also worth considering that Entry #38 is Pre-chestcam which would point to Entry #29 taking place after Entry #38.

I have an idea that's likely completely and totally incorrect.

What if some of this takes place, not during the 7 months, but during the original marble hornets incident? Jay was involved in it as well, but he lost his memory of the events, or is implied to have.

I'd say that if that's true, then that's likely where 38 falls. I was always perplexed by the fact that jay didn't even BEGIN linking the situation to the operator. It would make some amount of sense to me if it took place early in the initial incident.

Then again this is totally speculation, i don't think there's an incredible amount of evidence supporting this idea.

So here's my 2 cents. After entry 40(which i believe is after 38 ) Jay comes back to retrieve his camera with his chest cam then he gets chased by the operator/masky into the cave of entry 29 where he finds the blood of alex. Alex having come/been at the park before Jay got there and was found by slenderman and dragged away.
to summarize, alex made the call in 39 already at the park and sometime between then and when jay got there he got killed.

@Spades Slick (shouldn't we be calling you Bec Noir now?):
The recordings Jay has been showing us are labelled by date, according to Jay. If this happened way back when, I feel like he would tell us -- since that's kind of important.
