I personally don't care for slendy blogs either, but let me give you my reasoning. (And I'm not saying they suck, I'm just saying this is why they may not be for everyone)

Before someone says that I don't read and know nothing about writing, I've been writing for the past 8 years and I am a huge fan of HP Lovecraft.

First of all the main thing that doesn't appeal to me is the lack of realism. Most horror fiction is either written in 3rd person story format or a 1st person retelling of events in the past. It is very rarely done in "real-time".

Somehow I think that if you're being stalked by a paranormal entity of unimaginable power, the last thing you'd be concerned about is when you update your blog.

I also feel as though it's not a blog per se, so much a written transcript of a vlog that hasn't been made. Often I get the feeling some bloggers want to be vloggers but just dont have the men and materials to do so.

Don't get me wrong, there are some very talented writers out there who are very clever and tell intriguing stories, but I don't think the medium fits the Slender Man genre.

The thing that makes vlogs a tad more realistic for me is the lack of effort the characters must put forth to make it. All they have to do is pick up a camera and carry it around with them. Not too difficult. But if you feel your life is endangered, I doubt one would spend up to an hour writing a blog post. But that's just me.

Also, vlogs can be justified as showing "proof" or "evidence" of the events, as well as to record and document these bizarre events for future reference. Sharing it with the world on youtube is simply a cry for help.

Also, vlogs can scare much easier than a blog can. And c'mon folks, isn't the creepiness of ol' Slendy what drew many of us into the mythos?

TL;DR: Blogs are good, but not for everyone. Here's some reasons why.

END RANT

But if you really consider it, vlogs are just as time consuming to actually get onto the internet (rendering, editing (even simple stuff like removing footage of feet walking, etc.). In general the idea of posting things to the internet in times of peril/lives being ruined seems unrealistic.

True, most vlogs seem to take the "we're posting this to prove we're not crazy and to have everything somewhere so we don't lose it" route, but with the slight exception of the credibility of the "proof", that's more or less what a blog could be to someone without a camera.

Honestly, Dreams in Darkness was/is one of my favorite Slender Stories, and pretty much the entire reason that I read any blogs at all. I always felt as though it got overlooked for happening so early in comparison to other blogs, so I'll be really happy if this re-ignites interest and continues on with that story/writing style.

I agree that the blog formatting is a bit of a misfit to the genre overall, but there are definitely some gifted writers/stories out there, DiD being one of them.
