If it ends in complete tragedy, it needs to at least go out with a bang. As... cute as Lovecraftian endings are, they're really about as unfulfilling as poorly executed Deus ex Machinas. "And they all die" is not fulfilling from a storytelling perspective. I don't ask for a happy ending, if it ends on a positive note, it should probably be Pyrrhic as hell, but an "everyone's fucked" ending isn't precisely amusing unless they do something relatively clever or awesome beforehand.

I don't want them to divulge all the info on the Operator, but I hope they'll at least feed us something, if for no reason other than malevolence without motive (and "because I can" is a motive imo) isn't very interesting. I'm not saying they have to lay out that little Billy Tallthin was strolling in the woods on Alchior VII one day when... but just something simple like what drew him to Alex or whatever would be nice.

I came up with a new ending that I think we can all get behind.

Jay, Alex, Brian, Tim, Seth, and Sarah all walk into the middle of Rosswood Forest. Seth is filming. They all look relatively nervous, but confident at the same time.

They walk to an empty area, and Alex goes to the center. He takes out a giant horn and plays an extremely loud note that causes all the birds in the trees to fly out into the sky. Several seconds later, Slenderman appears from the depths of the forest. As he slowly makes his way toward the crew, Alex yells "Now!". The camera turns to Jay, who pulls a rope, causing a tall box to fall from a tree above Slenderman. It falls on him, and he is trapped. Without skipping a beat, the rest of the protagonists rush over to the box and rip off Slendy's mask, revealing him to be the creepy old janitor. The gang all celebrate their success and Alex gives Jay a Jaybie-Snack.

The end

I made it better. Smile

See, part of what makes the Operator frightening to me is that he doesn't have a method or motive(at this point, anyway). If we can come away from Marble Hornets saying, "Well, the Operator targeted Alex because Alex [insert inciting action here].", then suddenly we as the audience are safe. We can say, "As long as I don't [action], the Operator won't get me." At this point, none of us are safe because the Operator can choose anyone at any time. That's part of what freaks me personally out, anyway.

Some guy on Tv Tropes posted this.

"Jay and Alex will finally reunite, and the Oeprator will make itself known to both of them. It will reveal its nature as a fallen spirit/angel sent to protect them from the Masked Ones (Masky and his groupies). It will also reveal that it posted Entry ###### and enttry 37, the first as a plea for assistance, the second as a desperate attempt to prove that it's been watching them from the start and isn't trying to hurt them. The three track down Masky and his friends, running across Brian and Jessica's bodies along the way. Jay and Alex take care of the groupies, and Slenderman gets into a battle with Masky, who pulls a Masky and jumps out of nowhere. Jay and Alex drop the camera and make a break for it. We can still see the feet of the Operator and Masky as they fight. Suddenly, there's a burst of distortion, worse than any ever seen in the series, and then the Operator and Masky are both gone. Jay and Alex return, find the camera, and hypothesize that the two vanished to the Operator's dimension. The final entry will be a trailer for Alex's film, and it seems the two are back to normal. But as the trailer ends, the video tears..."

I wasn't trying to bring anybody down; I just have a fixation with the macabre.

The oppressiveness of Lovecraft's "unfulfilling" endings is part of what gives his stories such a human quality despite many of them focusing on the occult and unknown deities. That feeling of helplessness against a force you have no hope of comprehending that everyone else in the world is blissfully ignorant of is something I think everyone can connect with or at least has felt at one point. It's the "why me" feeling, the feeling that the universe has singled you out for torture completely on a whim. I find Lovecraft's endings deceptively powerful, but maybe that's just me.

I may not be hoping for such a dark ending, but your concept did remind me a lot of Eternal Darkness and I have to say that's good in my book.

All I'm hoping for is a 'I die but I take you with me', redeeming Alex as he loses his own life to banish the Operator. Jay returns home. Everything seems fine for a few months, but he updates the marble hornets account one last time. The video is in a TTA style, (in this ending you never discovered who TTA is) and shows Jay (the video is almost 10 minutes long) at his home, watching TV. The frame tears, and you hear almost a growl from the other room. Jay gets up and investigates, you hear a shriek, and then he's gone.

Close on either 'Smile for death' or 'Found you Forever'
