THIS.

He's a relative of Alex's? He's taken on Alex's identity? He is Alex? Feel like I'm missing some kind of extra significance here.

Much as I'd love that just for the sheer mind-bendingness of it, it's pretty clear when Jay tells Jessica his full name that it begins with an M, and possibly "Mc" (McKenna? McLeod?). Unless he gave Jessica a fake name. [/spoilsport]

I was thinking about the potential endings of Marble Hornets the other day. It occurred to me that, given the narrative structure, the most likely possible endings require a victory or at least survival. Of course, with other characters in play, such as totheark, a final entry could be uploaded even if Jay meets his demise. However, I am not a huge fan of that idea, because I don't think it makes sense for totheark to have the final victory.

In terms of narrative structure (and assuming for the moment that Troseph are traditionalists in terms of storytelling) Alex pretty much has to die at the end. Entry #49 was the point of no return for him, and unless he had a really good reason for killing Beardy (for example, Beardy is one of the masked clan) there's no going back. You can't live happily ever after when you've needlessly and deliberately committed a murder. In fact, you can't really redeem yourself after killing an innocent apart from through your own death - preferably one where you sacrifice yourself for someone else.

In most stories, the narrator doesn't die (because who would finish the story if they did?). But Marble Hornets is a little more offbeat than most stories, and as you mentioned, totheark could always be used to upload the final footage of Jay's death. So I guess it's always a possibility.

Personally, I'd prefer an ambiguous ending, where you see our protagonists heading off into the woods for one final epic confrontation with the Slendoperator. With maybe one final totheark video hinting at what might have happened to them, but no definite answers. Because I'm perverse like that.

Fun fact:
When people are in the same family, they usually have the same name

Hence why I wrote "He's a relative of Alex's?" It was my first thought, but the reactions made me think I was missing something (I blame the Slendy paranoia). I suppose, as twist endings go, it would be an interesting one, if a bit out of left field. Though there would be no need for Jay to keep that a secret from the start.

I hope they are not related. I mean, there argument in entry 47 made them seem to close to a couple for my comfort.

I know what you mean about that entry. I'm sure it spawned a ton of slash fiction... Maybe Jay is Jay Kralie because he and Alex got married during the lost 7 months. And then promptly forgot. That's the big end-of-season reveal.

I think it'd be strange to see this in season three, but not primarily the ending:

Alex walking away
Jay behind him
J: "Alex!"
Alex pauses, turns around
J pauses
"What's the key go to?"
Alex stares at J
"It goes to the ark"
and then he walks away

Rolling Eyes

Read through that again, and then queue this music right after your done:

If you've ever seen the ending of the Bourne Supremacy, you'd see why it fits so perfectly.

I'd like to see death. The Operator's destruction and the peaceful triumphant end to Jay and the good guys. No idea why, I just think it's a lot better than either "oh, we fixed the stuff with the scary monster, post-traumatic stress doesn't exist, life goes on" or "yay the good guys w- oooh look, it's ambiguously alive, roll credits!"

Or Jay and TTA don't make it at all. Sometimes I like to root for people, but I'm a sucker for tragedies.

Exactly. This is the ending to about 95% of horror movies. It'd be nice to see something different for once.

Jay and Jessica go to visit Alex. He's in an institution.

He sits quietly. He eats if food is put before him. He does not seem to hear anything said to him.

But if he sees -- either in life or in a picture -- a man in a dark business suit and tie, he screams in uncontrollable terror.

And every day -- at the same time, for precisely one hour by the clock -- he scrawls, on blank paper or books or newspapers or the walls if necessary, OPERATOR and SEES ME and the Op symbol.

(I haven't figured out what to do with Timasky yet. Probably he kacks it.)

Here's what I wrote in another thread:

At least one person will have to be alive in the end to upload the final video.

I'm sort of hoping it will be a bittersweet ending. My theory is that Jay will be able to stop the Operator, at least temporarily, but will come with huge costs. Alex, Tim and probably all the other characters will die in the process. It would be silly to think the ending will be totally happy, but I do want Jay to succeed in the end. He's a likable protagonist, even if he's constantly doing dumb stuff.

Mr. Fisher's ending was the best thing ever.
