Scratch is like Brutus...the person who Caesar thought was a friend, but ultimately was conspiring to have Caesar assasinated. We all know this by now, and we also know that scratch did pretty much betray caesar, but nothing came of it in the end, and it was scratch who we started to see less of...I feel that now scratch is facing his fate, and demise. Strange thing (in history) is after a power struggle with apparently "Mark Antony" and "Octavian" Brutus was defeated at the "Battle of Philippi" and commited suicide...the newest clue features someone commiting suicide, so maybe it is scratch needing the help, we already established long ago that .mic files were by scratch...so maybe he is facing his demise now, and needs the help of his old friends...poor old scratch lol

Or, potentially, this is an attempt by Scratch to establish a trap for Caesar, in which case Scratch is still playing the role of Brutus...
Watch your back, Caesar!

y2k, that's huge!
Finally, somebody noticed that Scratch is in trouble; but only kbp so far, I guess
Poor Scratch, I don't think he can answer his phone now Sad

-----------EDIT---------------
Actually, I just looked, and kbp never said "I'm leaving" - like Omni, and even Texel did.

And edited the wrong time out

Perhaps some of the other hackers don't believe Scratch is truly in trouble? Perhaps they doubt his word now?

brutus2.jpg just went up:

OK, we all here now? I've got sort of a line on Scratch - access logs to PO indicate he's using a dial-up near here, but other tracing I am trying to do is showing sporadic access points. Whatever's going on, I don't think he's staying in one place for long.

mello, you must chill. OK, so we've got some serious weirdness going on here, but texel survived just fine. Scratch is one stubborn guy - he's most likely crying wolf. He didn't believe me before, who really thinks he's since been converted to the church of caesar, huh? Razz He's just mocking us, oh how clever he is. Etc. etc. etc.

Yeah, I checked for the rest right away - they weren't there. It doesn't look like anything else is there atm either...

Anyway, I can't believe that Caesar would say that:
Quote:
He didn't believe me before, who really thinks he's since been converted to the church of caesar, huh? He's just mocking us, oh how clever he is

I'm kind of disappointed in him - I think Scratch really is in trouble; it's good that at least some others are trying to help him
[edit: spelling, sort of]

Scratch could be the "Strange Man"

Question

I don't buy that Scratch is really in trouble; true, he might be, but if I were in danger, and found the time to access the Internet to contact my hacker friends, I wouldn't go to all the trouble to make a .mov file, I'd just go ahead and make .txt file. Surely far simpler, and a better indicator if he's in danger?

EDIT: Unless he has a video camera that has some sort of direct access to the Internet (do we even have technology like that yet?), in which case he could simply upload a video file directly.

I think we can discount Scratch being in serious Whomp trouble... Someone (even Caesar) would've noticed that a whole bunch of Whomping would be going on, correlated that with Scratchs' cry for help and gone "ooh, maybe he *IS* in trouble..."

UNLESS, and this just popped into my head typing the above... unless Scratch followed Texel to the Viral Whomp, and AI Man didn't notice he was there? Which would mean Scratch has effectively been erased by AI Man when he did his post-Viral Whomp cleanup...

The only thing flying in the face of this theory is that C logged Scratch from a dialup line... that means he's on the move. The above paranoia aside, I'm of the mind that Scratch is just taking the mickey out of Tex, belittling her experience. I have a digital handycam, and yeah, there's some cool effect features in that baby, but I know what I'd do if I were in trouble and it wouldn't involve creating some tape-static and fading in a picture with a stretched out noise in the background.

Cassius parallels aside, I still think that Scratch is noble and well given. And Caesar, with the "He didn't believe me before, who really thinks he's since been converted to the church of caesar, huh?" - that just sounds so conceited (I know it's meant to be humorous, but still...)

Quote:
but other tracing I am trying to do is showing sporadic access points.

I know the upload times don't quite match, but it could have something to do with Beth's "translocation" or something similar. Beth was able to access the internet (though certainly not via dial-up) while that was happening - and especially given that "translocating" might have simply meant "change of the code to fool her into believing she's at different places" - so I could, for example, imagine that Scratch somehow followed her OR the AI man, and experienced the same thing, but somehow he is stuck or something Question And actually, we don't even really know what times Caesar is talking about - they might be different.

I have no idea how he would be able to create that file; but it doesn't seem to me that it would be all that much more difficult than doing text - he could have had a camcorder, filmed "help me" written in the sand, saved it to his hard drive (remember, Texel had her laptop with her?), and sent it out (but how?); the screwed up "coding" around him would explain the static.

Another thing - neither Mello nor Bounce (I guess lhp is Bounce?) are able to figure out what happened to him, or what kind of help he needs; I wonder if we can at this point?
