"Tracing the Footsteps" and my theories

So I come back to this thing every couple months or so, and the more and more I work at this the more I just want to see the thing found and get some closure! So here's some of what I think in hopes maybe some of you have some feedback.

That said, I'm a HUGE advocate of the "tracing the footsteps" theory, and no matter how hard I try to NOT think about this, I keep coming back to it. Here's a little road map of how I see it...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EPISODES 1 and 2: I like to think of these as "intro to WLOG" episodes, "here's how to read the clues", etc type stuff. I haven't ruled out some of the letter-switching and whatnot as clues with greater means down the road, but if its a big picture we're drawing, the paths actually traced during these two episodes are just a tiny little squiggle in the scheme of things as all we do is traverse about a little piece of central park.

EPISODES 3, 5, & 6: THE MEAT AND POTATOES! Tracing the crew's footsteps over these three episodes will give us a picture/symbol/mega-clue of some sort that tells us where to begin with episode 4 (which I think we all agree is out of order). I stop at episode 6 for one big reason, explained a little further below.

EPISODE 3: I think it's pretty clear that the mode of transportation is the subway in this episode. I still don't think any of us are very sure on the exact paths of the crew, however, including myself, but the subway's the way to go. I also agree that THE CREW SPLITS UP!

EPISODE 5: I don't have any more reason to believe that the crew starts taking the buses in this episode than the next guy, but that's the theory I rolled with. I think it's partially due to Crothers's "fare be fare" statement while losing his 6-5 (nicknamed "bus pass" in the card game). Again, the paths are foggy.

EPISODE 6: Not sure what the mode of transportation is here yet. The most important things said in episode 6, however, are the following...

TOM: "To catch up to you is destiny, when our PATHS ARE MEANT TO BE ONE"
(In my mind, confirms that the CREW SPLITS UP! and reconvenes at this point.) and...

CAPTAIN: (at the end) "Alright ya bleedin' videomakers, had yer fun ye had. Now, SHOWS US THE CLUE to where our treasure be hidden."
(In my mind, the captain's statement outward to US here is a surefire confirmation that at this point, we have our completed drawing/tracing, and this is the clue that episode 4 will take off on.)

The following are all pretty higher level theories, as I don't see a whole lot of need to visit them thoroughly til I have my "drawing". But what the heck, here's what I'm thinking...

EPISODE 4: Out of order, we all agree. I have a hunch that this rather quick and short episode is all about interpreting our drawing. Stuff like, "Where to start in relation to this object?", or maybe we have to flip it upside down before we go "OHHHH!!! THAT's what it is!" etc... In any case, after episode 4 we should definitely know where to go stand to begin EPs 7 and 8.

EPISODES 7 & 8: These I feel are going to be very zoomed in instructions that will only make sense when taken from the location episode 4 and our "drawing" leave us off at. They probably aren't even worth interpreting until we are done with episode 4, and they'll lead us right to the treasure.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please feel free to offer any feedback on my work here, or let me know if any of you are doing the same kind of song and dance and want to compare paths. I have a scribblemaps.com account set up with some rough sketches of paths and stuff.

Over and out,
Good luck to anyone still casually working on this thing!

-Joe

Re: "Tracing the Footsteps" and my theories

Hey Joe,
Since quite a few people on here like the theory of following a subway path did you notice that there is an outline of 2 ships via subway paths? That would make some sort of sense since, well you know the captain is a captain of a ship and he does give quite a lot of directions pertaining to ship parts.
Also we are suppose to be starting at the ship for that flying birdie.

Check it out. See if it works for ya. I like some of your theories by the way.

drawing = ship?

Captain,

This would be an EXCELLENT realization if the traced paths drew a ship... Based on what I have so far, it actually isn't too crazy of an idea.

I'm going to keep playing with my paths and seeing if I can rationalize (without being ridiculous) the crews' paths drawing some semblance of a ship.

That could potentially shed light on all SORTS of things - like where on the map the crows nest lies...

I'm like this, captain - I will humor this theory with you. I'll keep everyone posted on any findings...

Re: drawing = ship?

One of the things I postulated was drawn is the Maddie Hayes. If so, then you should go to where ever the crow's nest is drawn. Then I think you apply the clues from the last video.

A good exercise would be to number the clues from all the videos. I believe that in ep 4, when clue 28 comes up, that is the 28th clue. I believe clues 41,42,43 are from the captain's side interview from the wpppt (when he talks about the turtle).

Hey Joe, been a few, but I'm -finally- sitting down to plot out a map on Google Maps, and I have a few questions that I'd love to get your input on in regards to the pathing of 3-5-6 (mostly 3 & 5).

Firstly, I wanted to throw out there that - if going by the ABCD idea - that these are the four trains the crew takes, while Mario/Fafa are on the MF - that if we are to take what the puppets are saying as being landmarks to 'above ground' places they are near on the lines they're traveling, that when Crothers says 'Why can't we say steal? We be pirates!' shortly after M&F join them, there is a place called 'Nippon Steel Works' at 6th Ave/50th St., to lend credence to the idea that yes, they are there when M&F join.

I'm with you through Mulligan's path - completely. I've absolutely NO doubt he's on the B, then takes the 68 up towards Prospect Park and gets off at Greenwood Cemetery. The biggest question -I- have is how we disconnect Muligan from Crothers and hook him up with the Captain, and Crothers with Tom working backwards from 6-to-5-to-3.

I think Crothers, personally, is on the C train - in 3, he's quick to switch 'Spectacles' and 'Skeptical' (switching p for a c sound), which leads me to believe that - aside from the reference to Lens Crafters @ Columbus Cir., he's personally on the C train while the Cap'n is on the A. It's not a hard drive, but that's what I think. Now, postulating that this were indeed true, where/how do the groups further separate to reconnect later?
