TRON Legacy in the media
Mentions in magazines, etc.

Hey, thought I'd start a new thread for all the info out there or coming to your eyeballs soon via magazines, etc, so we can have a little list for collectors, starting with the December issue of Wired Magazine [18.12] that I just in the mail (I subscribe)...

This months issue of disney 23 is a tron special. And I'm not sure if this counts, but the december issue of Dazed and Confused magazine features Daft Punk, talking about their TL score.

I'm in Chicago and usually either Borders or Barnes & Noble get it, if not there's a couple comic/culture shops that get it.

Also, you can order directly from here: http://www.ocsmedia.net/title_desc.aspx?title_code=Dazed

If you want to know what all's in the issue:

Yeah, the Wired cover and article are both pretty good. I don't appreciate some of the original movie putdowns though...I feel like every time he compliments it he says it's "vertigo-inducing" or not living up to it's potential...S'weird.

Been reading a lot of articles that show no respect to the original and basically refer to it as "a box office bomb". The most annoying instance is in the latest issue of Game Informer, where they basically state that the new movie will suck and the original is not even worth a look. Must be written by some snot nosed 20-year old. (God, am I getting old or what? Get off my virtual lawn you punks! Cool )

Let us all find this "writer" of Game Informer and give him a sturdy kick in the nuts!

Just read the article. I second the motion. Let the nut-kicking commence! I would personally do it with my circuit-lined TL style boots. Cool

Yeah, the Wired article was definitely written from a must-be-Hollywood-blockbuster-or-it's-not-a-good-movie frame of mind... pretty lame from a magazine that acts like they're the authority on technology (yet is so commercialized compared to even ten years ago!).. I'm sure the writer was young and inexperienced, and doesn't truly understand the significance of what Tron was as a statement, it's gotta be difficult for people that have grown up knowing user friendly computers all their lives.

Not to date myself, but I saw Tron at least 10 times in the theater when it was originally released and I know plenty of friends that did the same, so I can't agree or believe that it was really a box office bomb. Too much is judged by the box office total instead of whether it's a good film with meaning. I'm sure that half the people that saw it back then really didn't understand it though, had that conversation too many times over the years...

Uh, "box office bomb" is a measurable label, and Tron was basically a box office bomb. Doesn't mean it wasn't liked by many, but was certainly not liked by many more Wink It made $33M in 1982 (under $100M w/inflation) with a $17M (~$50M) budget. That's not bad, but it didn't appeal to the masses nearly as much as it could have.
You can see some of its relative rankings at boxofficemojo. There may be any number of interpretations of that data (running against E.T. for example), but in the long run, Tron fared far worse than hoped in its theatre run.

Which is of course no excuse for people already slamming Legacy, being a completely new and different film... barring any unforeseen catastrophe (like an announcement that Twilight: More Teen Drama, or Lord of the Rings 4 or something will open the same weekend), I see Legacy earning it's keep opening weekend. Stay power? We'll see how the public reacts to the story Smile
