Now, boys and girls, let's not go overboard here. Some elements of the mythos ARE real.

1.) Young American men frequently hang out with their buds.
2.) Young American men frequently make YouTube videos.
3.) Young American men frequently piss people off*.
4.) Some people actually do wear suits!
5.) Some people are actually tall!
6.) Some people really are bald!
7.) Sometimes, 4, 5, and 6 really do converge!
8.) Finally, the thematic, symbolic truth of some of these blogs is more important than the literal truth thereof. It's about the human experience, the darkest and most hopeless moments in our existence, when we are forced to assess our life, and ask uncomfortable, painful questions, like, "Why? Why? Why does he make move now?"

*In the case of the "people" being pissed off in the mythos by young American men, the term is used rather loosely, but still applies.

The Internet created the Slender Man mythos. However, the Internet also created Rebecca Black. She now has a record deal and more fame than most of us could ever hope for, so I don't really expect it to be long before he actually starts showing up in windows and in the woods.

Here are some things to think about:

How much of the stuff on the Internet can you actually verify using the Internet as your source?

How would anybody know even if it was real? Even if one source admitted the stuff they presented was fake, that wouldn't affect all the other stories.

Even if we answered, how could trust the words of a completely unknown person on your screen?

Everybody you ask could have a different answer. If one person saw the real thing, they'll say it's real, and another person who only saw fakes, will obviously say it's all fake. What will you think if both of these people give their answers at once?

How can a mass poll like this give an accurate answer when so few people do actual, in-depth, off-line research?

What if someone gives you their answer and they turn out to be totally wrong? Shocked

Let's get more personal: Would you be ultimately better off knowing or not knowing? Or would it make a difference?

Bottom-line: Welcome to unForum! Just try to have fun.

P.S.: Anybody have any evidence on Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster? Can anybody tell me if they're real or not? No? Well, I guess that's why they're interesting...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I am not one who will claim to know the answer. I really don't know.

It's real enough for me sometimes.

I work at an alarm company in their call center. I read and listen to a bunch of alarms every night. A large majority of them are false alarms. A small handful of those false alarms are the ones that get me thinking.

These small handful of alarms are ones when people either press their panic button or call to complain that their alarm hadn't sounded.

In the first instance, we get a lot of "a man standing at our door, not responding to us"
"a tall man at our window"
"there's a man wearing black in our yard just standing there"

and in the second instance, it's a case where a person is either coming home and sees someone in their home...or worse, wake up and see someone in the hallway, always just standing...while their system is armed.

And in at least 3 instances, there have been actual alarms where the police reported to us that they saw an individual in a home. A tall white male in a suit.

Good times.

To be fair and to keep it real, there are plenty of perfectly valid and reasonable ways to explain away any and all of that. Night terrors, drunk people, shadows, customer errors, drunk people, crazy people who stand at doors, drunk people etc etc etc.

It just doesn't do me any good to sit here at night and get the hairs on the back of my head standing up when I read/listen to this stuff.

True. I was already feeling a bit terrified over something else and reading that in my haze had a "jaw dropping" effect.

Still creepy.

Shocked

This is the scariest Slender-related thing I've seen in a long time, sadly.

Oh...oh my.

It doesn't help that, in a certain Slender ARG I play, some of the proxies are considering recruiting me to their ranks and a former proxy is headed to my town, presumably to kill me. As if I didn't have enough paranoia in the first place...

Heh. Next time you wake up, Doc, maybe MT will be there, in the hallway. Staring.
Holding that wicked knife of his. Staring.
Sweet dreams :3

Can't see the hallway from my bed, but he could be in my doorway. 'Course, he's not really the type to stand and stare, is he? He's more "run in, murder violently, desecrate corpse, run out".

And he's not MT anymore, he's Vadiir. Or Voorhees. Or The Artist Formerly Known As MT.

Sorry for the off-topicness.
