Hidden NRU Press Releases....

Sorry if this has been pointed out before, but I found what I think
are hidden NRU Press Releases.

http://www.nru.us/Press_Releases/20031009.htm

Missing student arrested during press conference
Monday Oct 09, 2003, 7:33 a.m. MST
New River University (NRU Press)

Jacob Starkey was arrested last night during his press conference. The
warrant for his arrest has been sealed but one source close to the
case said, "They were just waiting for his return from wherever he
disappeared to. NRU had noticed the theft of equipment, software, and
the removal of documents that are of significant importance to
national security. It wasn't until his disappearance did anyone
notice."

Craig Becker, head of NRU had no comment this morning. Starkey, will
be arraigned this morning in Pinal County Federal court. His lawyer
could not be reached for comment. NRU Press will cover developments as
they happen.

NRU welcomes back missing student
Monday Oct 06, 2003, 12:01 a.m. MST
New River University (NRU Press)

After over nine months of being listed as a missing person, Jacob
Starkey returned home safely late Sunday night. ?A Catalina Sheriff?s
Department spokesperson called this morning to let us know, we?re glad
he?s home safe.? said Craig Becker head of NRU security. Starkey, who
could not be reached for comment this morning is a graduate student at
New River University and has been working for Professor Zeladzny since
both were invited to continue research they had begun at Cal Poly. He
returns home to his wife Meghan who is also a student at NRU. We hope
to catch up to him later this week when he returns to classes.

NRU Website Cracked In an apparent attempt to show off, a student or
group of students defaced the NRU website this week. The discovery and
removal of files happened late Saturday night. "We didn't initially
notice the defacement, none of the commonly referred to pages were
touched. Request errors in the log showed attempts to access folders
that didn't exist. Initially it looks to be someone was sharing
illegally copied movies to others via our web server. NRU security is
investigating the case and hope to have further comments later this
week."

Those releases were foind originally linked from the NRU home page.
http://www.nru.us/ It is possible with the recent hold they were not added to the Press release page.
BTW you missed the Press release on Jake's release on pre-trial motions:

http://www.nru.us/Press_Releases/20031011.htm

And forgive me for displaying my computer ignorance, how you found them without the links or dates to guide you?

The Home Page for NRU has a link for "Pre-trial motions for Starkey lead to his release." that takes you to http://www.nru.us/Press_Releases/20031011.htm, but http://www.nru.us/Press_Releases/20031011.htm was not one of the links shown on the http://www.nru.us/press_releases.htm page, so I throught there may be other hidden Press Releases there as well. I could tell by the dates on the Press Releases that the format of the URL was YYYYMMDD.htm, so I just checked a few and I fould the ones I listed. I didn't check very many, so there could be a great deal more.

I didn't include http://www.nru.us/Press_Releases/20031011.htm because that one wasn't hidden (it was on the home page of NRU).

META: What is the Search function

But still not listed on the Press Release page. While it is an important point that you made, you could have searched this forum for mentions of "Press Release"
The Search form is here
You can specify "Forum" (i.e. Acheron: Interaction) or by "Catagory" (i.e. Acheron), by the words in either topic & title or just in message text, by date, by order of appearance - you can even specify how much text of the message is displayed whic will help you figure out if a specific message has what you need.

Example: here is what I got for searching on "Press Release" and the Catagory "Acheron"
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2659&highlight=press+releases

Please note this was originally posted October 9 by Grumpyboy.
No harm in asking again when you find things on your own, but the search is a valuable tool to us for looking up specific info in order to pull together many pieces scattered all over.

I should know, I am the head of the reference desk section. It is amazing what the library archives hold. Wink

Thanks for the help. I did a search before I started, but I guess I did it wrong, When I didn't find anything, I assumed the information I found was new. Sorry.

Well then you did what you could, and learned something about the foruims at the same time. Soon you'll be researching circles around magesteff. Well maybe not the reference librarian, but you can search circles around me!
