Key words I thought of:
casket (meaning a dead author, perhaps)
three brushes
45
dewalt/walt
wonka/willy
lamb/lambe
1990
I did a search for flags with blue and red:

Gonna go jogging now.

The author is most likely
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Roald Dahl who died in 1990 and, among other things, was buried with his snooker cues, HB pencils and power saw. Among the many works he authored were Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roald_Dahl
and a short story called Lamb to the Slaughter
http://absolutenglish-972.pagesperso-orange.fr/notes/mysteries/lamb_ce.htm
One of his most famous short stories is called Poison www.daltonvoorburg.nl/file/5148/1068724056/Poison.doc
It has a krait in it which is a kind of snake but I am unclear as to how to answer the Watchman's question since just "krait" doesn't seem like the answer.
I have bronchitis which is slowly turning into pneumonia so am going back to sleep now. Hopefully someone else will be able to figure out what exactly the Watchman wants.

Beat you to it, I'm afraid...you're right, though
I sent in my answer and got this in reply:
Quote:
You have one choice now: We will answer one question to the best of our knowledge or do one act within our power for you.
Understand that we cannot do anything that would harm any living thing, including ourselves [the Green]; this would therefore preclude the ignoring, continuance of granting energy to or remedying as it stands Forest's condition.
We are glad one has proven themselves worthy - there may be hope yet for others.
You have until the sun sets tomorrow [The day of Odin] to make your choice of worth. If it is not decided upon, the opportunity will pass - no second opportunity will be provided in this instance.
Yours,
The Watchman.
That's a big choice...not sure what to do

Ask him the of the importance of the lottery?
Great job guys. My Google skills are lacking.

Actually, I didn't even use Google...I just noticed the Wonka bars and thought "Well, why not?"
But anyway, I have a bit to decide on what to do. The lottery is a great thing to ask about, so I'll definitely put that one on the list. If anyone can think of anything else that we'd want to ask about, please, please let me know. I want to make this count...

I'm not exactly sure what is going on terms of whether Forest's fate has been resolved yet. I was under the impression that the issue was more of Forest's existence (due to energy) even though Father had created. Even if Father is out of the picture, wouldn't Forest's existence still be an issue?

I chat with the Watchman from time to time. The most recent one was the friendliest by far. Here is what still needs to be done:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
As for the task bestowed upon humanity - it is a test - solve it - and you will be granted understanding of what to use - and how - and where - to grant Forest his energy. Fail... and...
We need to come up with an alternate energy source that others have found. Perhaps, relating this to Roald Dahl, this energy should be the type of positive energy to come from happiness and joy.

Another thing to think about in terms of the energy is how the Green had described it as exponentially increasing. Was the energy drain also described as having no limit?
If there is no limit, then could it be possible that the act of taking the energy also be used to refill (for lack of a better word) the energy taken? (Think cyclical)
If there is a limit, then could it be possible to find an energy source that can be sustained somewhere above that limit (so that it won't be depleted)?

The drain is exponential as well, that much he revealed to me. Perhaps the answer is more scholarly, though.

About the lottery(As I understand it.):
The lottery is an incentive,a game, organized by Father. We solve the challenges put forth by him, through Forest, and we earn tickets. The winner gains the prize, a painting.
I think we should ask about the current puzzle that the Green has given us. Perhaps ask a question related to the green countries shown?

That makes sense. I went back through the *entire* thread here, looking for things that never got answered. Here's a list of our loose ends. Please feel free to look back and add anything that I've missed...
Three things given to us at various points that were never explained, but seem to be connected:
Quote:
The key lies with creation. Let the stars throw down their spears...
dot to dot spear to star similar to a mystic rose
seek stars from stars
We still have some capitalized letters from two codes that no one made sense of:
Now, a few connections I've made:
We got an image a while back that said this:
Quote:
II. Reason or the ratio of all we have already known, is not the same that it shall be when we know more
This is from There Is No Natural Religion by William Blake
Also, this term keeps popping up:
Quote:
Let the stars throw down their spears
That is from The Tyger, also by William Blake. The reason I believe it is important is because this is one of the few repeated poems used.
Finally, the mystic rose. Honestly, this one confuses me. Looking it up in google gets me a mixture of religious sites and a few talking about the mathematical formula that creates a "mystic rose" or a circle with lines drawn to equidistant points around the circumference. A slightly better explanation is found here . The other thing that stood out to me was related to punxtr's comment on positive energy. One of the religious sites talked about the "mystic rose meditation", which had three steps: laughter, tears, and silence.
One thing I do know: I'm going to ask about something involving this latest puzzle. What specifically, I don't know yet. I'm leaning toward something about either the countries picture or the significance of the "stars and spears" piece of the puzzle.

The Watchman mentioned being clever in another puzzle. Could the cleverness still apply to the one question we may ask? If so, to what extent could we try to be clever?

Perhaps asking a question that gets us multiple answers? My biggest issue is knowing what we need to find out...
Also, just realized this, if it helps any:
Quote:
dot to dot spear to star similar to a mystic rose
You connect the dots with lines, or spears to make the star at the center.

Apologies to all for the delay in posting...just wanted to let you all know that I've answered The Watchman. I'll post any information I get as soon as I can.
