Either "averity" or "verity"

I'm unable to see a clear letter before the "s" on the parchment, whereas in other lines the faded letter on the right portion of the post-flipped parchment has a noticeable origin on the other side, so I'm leaning toward "verity".

Okay so far I'm thinking:
* location = John Dee's Church -- "mother to son" and "mortality to immortality" can be clues to the exact location.
* when the sun shines longest = summer solstice (June 21)?
* time = horizons long?? Is the horizon longest during the day or at sunrise/sunset?
* make sure not to bring any metal, coins, or keys
* call "verity!" in order to enter

What do you think about the mother/son & mortality/immortality? If it's a church, it could be a statue or painting of Mary & Jesus, and maybe a cross for the mortality/immortality, but those are just ideas...

From Google searching, I think the name of the church is "St. Swithun's Church" or "St. Swithin's Church".

EDIT:
As for the length of sunrise/sunset, this website (http://www.astro.uu.nl/~strous/AA/en/antwoorden/zonpositie.html#14) mentions this:
Quote:
The slowest sunset occurs at the solstices (near 21 June and 21 December).

noticed i missed out a word from the e-mail last night:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
should have said "help me watchers everywhere etc

which makes me think that every e-mail we get from now on will be in code, if we get e-mails again. from our chat last night, makes it seem like we'll only be able to contact him through gmail chat, or in person. he mentioned possibly telephone, but i got the feeling that that's a worst-case option, i.e. if no-one was able to physically meet him.

nothing really new there, just random musings.

but onto practicalities:

Lystella - I think you're right about St Swithin's Church, but I'm confused. The one that seems most likely is this one

It's in Lewisham, which is next to Greenwich, and it's in an area called Hither's Green. Seems likely.

BUT

Google suggests that there's this thing called the 'London Stone' that John Dee had something to do with, which was kept at a different St Swithin's church. The church itself was destroyed in the Blitz, but the stone's still there. Only problem is it's located
here

Now, the first one is more likely, as it is roughly in the right geographical area, in a place called 'Hither's Green', and, well, it's still a church. But the second one actually was visited by John Dee, and the parchment does refer specifically to him (confirmed by Howard on gmail chat last night).

Thoughts on this?

Moving on, looks like we'd have to be there a week today. Howard seems to want more than just one of us there, so again, anyone else live in or near London?

Finally - one last thought.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
if the error at the end of the chat does tell us to 'find Gerald' - I'm thinking, at the church we might be finding Gerald there rather than Howard? I'm also guessing that 'verity' will be the code word we have to say to whoever's there to prove that we are frendlies

Ahh. Good one! That explains the alchemical symbol.
Now we have links to Sacred Geometry and the Knight's Templar:

I was actually considering the church in Leadenham because of Dee's direct association with the church based on the link above.

As for the role of Greenwich, I'm not exactly sure if the entity speaking through the errors is Howard after thinking back on posse's gmail conversation with him:

Quote:
howardfairinthegreen: [error] help me help him do not let him study [error - server rebooting]

To me, it seems like there is another entity conversing to us through Howard's account to get us to keep Howard from doing something.

EDIT: draghkar's earlier conversation with Howard seems to suggest the same thing as well.

Howard: [server error. Library contact server reboot operating.]
me: what is wrong with the library computer?

Just tried to send an email to howardfairinthegreenSPLATgmail.com now, and got the same automated email response from Dr Geraint Clyme as before (http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=850813#850813).

Anyone else have any luck?

EDIT: I'm a bonehead!! I completely missed that Dr Geraint Clyme is an anagram for

Good morning all, woke up to 2 "cheery" email replies:

I sent the following message:
Quote:
Subject: Gerald McIntyre
To Dr Geraint Clyme aka Gerald McIntyre,
Please respond. I wish to speak with you concerning Howard Fair.
posse

The response:
Quote:
Sir/Madam.
You write of matters that do not concern you. Leave well alone. We tried to warn you about informing Howard about the transcript - this, unfortunately, has now been done.
The consequences lie with you.
G McIntyre.

I had also sent this email:
Quote:
Howard -- Message received & understood. Take care!
We have managed to decode the message from the scanner. We have
believe this message is a set of directions to lead to an important
location, and the exact location is a working theory at the moment.
We want to talk with you further about this if possible. The message
reads:
finding he with the
fourth letter as his name
the entrance to the green
is located by the church of
the same. mother to son.
mortality to immortality.
come when the sun shines
longest at the time of
horizons long. bring no
metal nor coin nor key.
entrance gained by calling
verity!
We hope to discuss this information with you soon.
posse

And I got a response from what seems to be the "normal" Howard:
Quote:
Subject: Initial ideas
Hi posse
I tried to contact you a few times but each time i logged on the computer 'bounced' me off - these old computers are getting beyond a joke. Darn!
Electronics aside - thanks for the translation - thinking the sun shining longest would be next Tuesday - but Horizons long? and the church? would like to discuss more but have a meeting with my Excellent boss now - will chat later regarding our TALKS.
howard.

Message hidden in the last email:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you take the capital letters, they spell out HIDE THE TALKS

My guess is we need to be more careful how we send information to Howard (oops...)?

Throwing another church in the mix.

John Dee lived across from and is said to be buried at St Mary the Virgin Church:

http://www.mortlakeparish.org.uk/stmary%27s/history2010.pdf

Fits with the "mother to son mortality to immortality" but is about 10 miles from Greenwich.

(It has a garden (green?) complete with labyrinth)

I had sent a "coded" email to Howard yesterday:
Quote:
computers Bouncing you off, Eh? Well, i'm glad you're Able to Reach
us now that your Email is working.

so far we are Unable to Narrow down the Clues regarding the horizons
Long and the Exact location of the Green.

I think we may need Some more information

About this -- how do you feel about meeting a fellow associate in
London? or should we continue discussing this situation In emails?
hope to get a Visit from you Either way!

keep in touch,
posse

which, using the same code from his previous email spells out: "BEWARE UNCLE G IS ALIVE"

Got a response later on that evening:
Quote:
thank you.
we will be in touch after the day of saturn. we have to investigate what you said. until then, locate exactly the right places - horizons only stretch twice a year...

I'm thinking "day of saturn" = Saturday. Horizons only stretch twice a year, though? Hmm...
