Re: Wait....

Cooper wrote:
The OP said the people who were abducted by the monster "deserved" it, and it would make sense when we saw the film.

Did I miss something? Because I saw the film, and nothing implying they might have deserved it caught my attention.

I'm with you Cooper, I didn't see a reason to eat or imprison the police chief and the gas station clerk, or the lady with the rollers in her hair. I guess the link of consciousness that he creates when he touches people you could argue he was in effect imprisoning people to learn everything he needed to about the town and what was going on, where the military guys were, but I dont buy that, and I think the person who said that just didn't feel like getting into a longer argument. I can't really blame him for that either.

Possible Air Force Connection to the Sheriff

First off, he's not a police chief. He's a Sheriff. The Sheriff of the county that the town of Lillian is in.

And who is this Sheriff? Has he always been with the county sheriff's department?

It's possible that he may have been in the Air Force, as a military police personnel.

I saw the movie Super8 twice now. On the second viewing, I noticed that when the monster grabbed Dr. Woodward, in the film clip the kids were watching, and then drop him...he was carried off by staff and military people. One of the military personnel looked like the sheriff but only 20 years younger.

Did anyone else catch that?

And if not, why did the sheriff tell deputy lamb to go home and forget about it and let the air force handle it. Who's he covering for?

Maybe that's why cooper went after him first at the gas station.
The sheriff finally got what was coming to him.

??????

Just my thought

My thought about why Cooper took the folks that he did was because of what they were wearing. The Sheriff of course had on a uniform (like the military peeps) and the lady in the rollers had on a bath robe (like the lab coats). This wouldn't completely explain why he took Alice or even the gas station attendant (although he was wearing a button up shirt and slacks if i remember correctly, could be uniform-like).

I just figured he was taking those people because they looked like the folks that had tortured him over the years. But I may be completely incorrect, who knows...

There's one thing that I wonder about, and I see a lot of people making this complaint,
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
how the hell did the military managed to even capture Cooper and contain it, seeing how huge it is and powerful

This sticks out to me as well. i mean
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Nellec unloads a clip into Cooper's face to no avail

During the viral video they mention something being in "hibernation" or some unknown state of consciousness after the craft was brought down, but i thought they meant the cubes/ship. Anything that can survive a fall from space, through the earths stratosphere, and the impact into the ground isnt going to be swayed by human projectile weaponry.

This.

I don't see any reason either why these people deserved it, and would like to hear why the OP thought so. In my eyes they were just targets of opportunity.

Sticks and Stone may break my bones....
but bullets will never hurt me.

So, did they not try to kill the monster from Cloverfield with bullets also.

Se how affective that was?

Maybe Cooper gives off a magnetic force field. Kinda like what the van allen belts do for the earth.

I also think Cooper was hungry when he snatched his victims.

And remember, hunger makes you do the strangest things. Smile

I thought the editing room video explained that after the nuclear blast and freefall, the creature was unconscious, so they built a cage and then pumped in that gas or whatever it was that kept him sedated until feeding time. That's how they captured him. They did have guns with darts so I think they had taken him down in the past

Well he does control a seemingly magnetic ship with no obvious sign of energy source besides his connection to the organic magnets...cubes...uhh...cheese foil...So yeahhh.... what you said force field...

I just like the fact that he puts people to sleep before he uses their innards to tie bows in his long flowing hair...

The thing I noticed about his "victims" is how gingerly he picks them up. Notice he did not just toss Alice on the ground when he was disturbed but layed her down softly?

Kinda like how you would handle a cheese cake I guess..I dunno

Also does he spin slime?

Yeah I really enjoyed the fact that he laid Alice very softly, just like with Joe by the way, maybe he acts differently with children.

How would you feel?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
So imagine you're driving through a big forest and you see a group of strange creatures the likes you've never seen before. You try to keep your distance as you watch, but they spot you. They use some heavy duty weapons to blast you and your vehicle into another state of existence. You wake to find them poking and prodding and pretty much torturing you. And damn – they're trying to figure out the component parts of your vehicle and doing a piss poor job of it. They assume you're some kind of cave dwelling monster, imprison you in a damp dark box, knock you out, and occasionally wake you just to feed you goat parts and bat shit. I mean all you were doing was watching from a distance – you meant no harm, and then – BAM – your whole existence does a 180. Gone is your life of freely roaming the world enjoying music, delicious eats, your kid's ballgames, and beautiful sunsets. This goes on for decades. So I guess you might hold a grudge of sorts.

On the day you finally bust out of your confinement – you go a little berserk and take it out on the species that held you miserably captive. Then a young one comes along – he's kinda dirty and is disrupting your escape attempt with those pesky M-80s and sparklers. You pick him up wondering if you should pulverize him. But wait. There's a connection. You sense he's emotionally more developed than those lug heads that had you trapped. You look into his sensitive eyes – I mean really look – and something reaches you. Reminds you of what you once were. You realize it's not too late. You can still live. Time is of the essence. You give the little critter a last blink. Set him down gently. And get the hell out of there while the getting's good.

(I think Cooper was feeling some rage - maybe a little post traumatic stress.)

EDIT: WhyYouBawwing - hope this makes you feel better.

Dude! Not cool leaving out spoiler tags on something like that! I mean yeah I saw it already but that's still more than enough information to ruin it for others.

Well the whole thread IS about what happened in the movie - so I should think it would go without saying that anything in the thread would probably contain spoilers. That's why I avoided this thread until after I saw Super 8.

But I will cover the post for anyone who doesn't realize that a thread called "I saw Super 8. Ask me anything" would have spoilers in it.
