Just a theory on the attacks:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The clerk, sheriff, and lineman that were attacked, and probably killed, most likely deserved it because they might have committed particular "sins," if you will, and somehow the alien can sense the wrong-doings. OR perhaps a corrupt heart. Like when dogs can sense when an evil person is nearby.

I really like your idea, at first I thought that
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
it could be related to electricity, but now that you say this, I cant think of anything else, and OP did say it would make perfect sense when seeing the movie. Other question to you OP by the way, you said that it had a unique face, so do we really get to see it up close?! And you said that the kids find a backstory on the alien, so we learn about its true origins?! And last but not least, do the cubes have a big importance in the story?! [spoiler]

Ok let's start from here.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'd really rather not reveal what's up with the "victims", you'll just have to see the movie to figure that one out. You definitely get more than a few GREAT looks at it's face. Truly unique and amazing design. Again, like nothing we've seen before. Yes you do learn the origins of the alien. But in typical J.J. vagueness, in the end, there is definitely still some mystery to take home. And a BIG yes, the cubes are VERY important.

I noticed you have "victims" in quotations??

Does the alien have any resemblance to the Micropinna Macrostoma?

Is there a plausible explanation to Mr. Minker surviving the crash??

Do we get the see the actual Super 8 footage the kids shot??

Sorry to pry, but my impatience often gets the best of me!

Its all about the story for me! Laughing how does it differ from the usual alien movies?

would you consider it as great as ET and Goonies, or not as good?

Thanks for the answers, someone spoiled on IMDB (It seemed legit for once) what the creature is and what it wants, and if it's really as the person says it is (Heather_mills something), it is fairly classical and expected, so beware those who dont want to be spoiled (I really couldnt resist):

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The alien crashed on Earth a while ago, and before the army could confiscate its ship, he activated somethg to make it explode, resulting in the numerous cubes which are what's left of it.

The army captures it, studies it for years and makes experiments on it, but it turns very wrong, two scientists are injured, one killed, and the creature becomes much more bigger than it used to be. Then, the alien is being transported in the train, it escapes, and collects various pieces to reconstruct the ship. He does that in the water tower (again expected), succeeds, and at the end, when it tries to escape, the military destroy one part of the ship which falls down, and the alien has to get the cubes, he succeeds, and apparently the cubes form a big weapon he uses to shoot at the town, and then he just escapes in the ship

So if it's really that, I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed, expected something a bit more imaginative from JJ but hey I'm sure there's a lot more to it than this mere summary of the plot.

Wow. A LOT of that is VERY wrong. Pretty much The whole last paragraph is wrong. Not sure what movie this person saw... Although the other parts seem distorted but accurate... Sounds like someone told him/her vague things about the film and plastered his/her own weird thoughts into the "review"...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's definitely NOT a typical alien movie. I could only compare it to ET in the sense that it's very dramatic in some ways. It's not quite an adventure in the Goonies sense, and it's not as humorous. Although there is A LOT of humor in the film, it is very funny at times. As I said before, the story is simple, yet effective. You care about the characters, you don't want anything to happen to them. And at times, they're all in real danger.

Ok thanks for reassuring me, I was kinda hoping deep down that it was BS. So, do you think that the script is well thought and original?! Just hoping it's not gonna be too generic. Btw, what did you think about the kids' performances?! The main kid (Joel Courtney) seems to be really good.

If you had to compare what the creature looks like to anything we've seen before? What does it look like exactly?

Alien's Past

Does the movie explain what the alien's past was like? It's backstory?

If so, could you please explain?[/i]

Sorry Daring Dave, your questions would have asked for some pretty spoiler heavy stuff... I kind of want to stay away from spoiling major things... But I'll leave you with this:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the ONLY problem I had with the movie was the fact that Mr. Minker was not killed in the head on crash with the train... But it IS a movie so...

I apologize (and don't mean to sound rude) but I thought the title was "Ask me anything!".. I must (after a year) finally be on to something??

Are Josh or Sarah mentioned in the movie? Or Coop for that matter?

It's most definitely BS. Doesn't happen. Although:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the cubes are VERY important. Integral to the alien. But 100% definitely NOT a weapon.

Hello Smile

You can be as vague as you want about this, but since I won't be able to see this movie anytime soon in Germany (I think) I really would like to know
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
how the kids are connected to the alien.. or bond with them or whatever happens when they say "We've gotta find this thing

Thank you Very Happy
