Number on Napkin hi, i'm playing a ARG in Portugal, just to get you in context, it's about a kidnapped person, the goal is for us to find him within 7 weeks.
The problem is that the night he was kidnapped he left a napkin with a smudged number in a bar, for what I know we're supposed to find what number is this, i tried everything in photoshop and paint shop pro, but my skills aren't that great, anyone out there that knows what kind of number this might be? it can't be a portuguese number because there's a digit missing.
any help would be very appreciated, since the portuguese community can't find the answer...
other answer might be that we're not even supposed to know the number for now...what do you think?
Thnks everyone!

I don't know much(anything) about other country's phone systems but since you said it's not a Portuguese number is there another country that you know that fits? If so, you could possibly narrow down the missing numbers to 2 or three if the first 2/3 are a country/area/etc code.
If you can get that far there wouldn't be to many different combinations with the numbers left and you could just go through them until you get the right one. Just be polite and unobtrusive to all the wrong numbers.

It has a "+" in front of it. Doesn't seem like a phone number to me...

in the uk sometimes mobile numbers have a plus on the front when you save them to your phone...
could it be a mobile number?

+ is usually to signify a country code, eg. +44 = UK so the two digits AFTER the + could be a country code.

Number on Napkin Enhanced Photo OK, here is my enhancement of the photo.
I think the first 5 numbers are deliberately smuged out. That does look like a plus sign before the smuged out numbers.
The remaining numbers are:
117236
But on second thought it looks to me like:
117Z36
So could it be a key for this photo? Something hidden in the photo?
Edited: Sorry the photo got so big - I have no idea why it did that. My photo is the small bit of the phone number.

hi everyone!
i'm really surprised, i never thought anyone would try so hard.
1st. it's not a portuguese number by one digit, it fits any other country that has 2 digits for the country code
2nd. we all believe its a phone number because of the + in front, that represents the 00 that has to be dialed before the country code
3rd by the image enhancement i can see that the last number may be a 0?
4th there's a theory going on here that this may not be a 2 but may be a Z like you said, Z stands for a number in the alphabet, can be the 23rd or the 26th
5th that clue was released almost 7 days ago and still nothing's up new, i personally believe more clues are on the way and that we are not supposed to find the number yet, but others think that we need to crack this to move on to the next clue...

117236 phonespell Checking for 117236 in phonespell (http://www.phonespell.com )
does reveal tha 117 means "Ben". Does that mean anything to you?
Also, checking for 117Z36 on the same website reveals:
117Z36 => 117-936
Does that mean anything to you?

Hello. My name is Chronus Valtiel and I'm completely new to ARGs. If I may, I'd like to jump on this here bandwagon .
I also went to phonespell and found that adding the alleged "zero" before the one made two interesting 8-letter mnemonics for 0117236: 011-scene and 011-scent.
Hope that helps .
EDIT: Food for thought: How strong is the possibility that the + is actually a 4?

Hi there!
I'm from portugal and also trying to solve this ARG, just to say that there is another theory coming up, in the light of recent clues. We have a word that suposedly the kidnaped always used as a password, but we think its incomplete...
The incomplete password is "sara", so i think that maybe that number (or number+letters) is the next part of the password, and that would explain the plus sign before the blured message...
So it being a phone number might be a phone number.. Who knows... But keep in mind that it still might be a phone number. Just to give you some update on our new discoveries...
Any help would be appreciated!

lol easy mistake to make
And I think the plus sign could very well be a 4. Look closely and you'll see a faint diagonal line moving up from the left point to the top point. I could be wrong, but then again, who knows?
