It seems likely that the "important phone call" he received must be something other than the announcement he already had planned, since he said he can't talk about it (and didn't directly relate it to the forthcoming announcement). I wonder what that could be?

I'm guessing the phone call is probably something regarding negotiations for using a location they'd like to film in. Generally speaking, you'd need to get permission from the owner to enter, much less film in, an abandoned building, for example, and that's definitely something that Troy and Joseph would have to do. The location of the "Boiler Room" probably presented a similar scenario to them, and the Red Tower might have as well. For that matter, it's even possible that Brian's house was a similar scenario--they just found a house that had been abandoned and trashed for a while and asked the owner "hey, can we use this as a set for a while?"

Much better than what they'd have to do to their own (or someone else's house).

As for the announcement we're anticipating, my guess is that it's not for a season 2 DVD *UNLESS* they got picked up by a big-label type deal that wants to produce the DVD. That kind of thing would probably be worth announcing now. Other possibilities include the announcement of new swag (posters? t-shirts? plushies? Paste-on Timasky Sideburns?) or something like that.

The only other thing that I can think of is that they may have acquired some sort of "sponsorship," which would probably come with the implication that the quality of the videos would increase. How a sponsorship like that would work (unless it was just a donation) is hard to say.

I suppose one other possibility is that they will be announcing that they're going to (insert convention name here) and wooo party time.

Or... I dunno, anything else I've got is kind of way out there.

The girlfriend and I still hope that they get David Duchovny to play the Operator, and we don't even know it until the blooper reel from the last season lets it slip.

Probably not.

I've got it. The big announcement is that we'll be returning to the present soon.

Seriously that's all I can think of that actually seems plausible.

No, that can't be it. We've spent so much time going through these past tapes. Next is returning to the slightly-nearer past, where we see what Jay's been up to in between posting these videos sporadically. Razz

(I mean, really, in-game, there's not really a very good reason for the gaps in activity. Even at the rate they've been posting new videos, Jay would be going through the tapes MUCH faster than that... Unless something's going on in between to keep him busy.)

How long has it been since Masky chased him out of the hotel? What's happened during that time? INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW.

Oh god.

They're actually making Marble Pornets, aren't they?

And they're actually going to be in it, aren't they?

EDIT: And Michael Bay's going to direct it, isn't he?

It might just be the 12 episodes of X-Files I just watched talking, but I approve.

Well, the "Tweetocalypse" happened since the hotel. Also, since Jay isn't posting videos about his current whereabouts, there is no way for TTA or Masky to find him, so there's not a lot of interesting stuff happening in the present time.

A couple brief theories on what Jay could be doing with his time:

-Jay works jobs to pay for hotel fees, as well as tapes.
-Jay still regularly deals with memory loss, so he always has to watch tapes of himself watching tapes of himself.
-Jay uses some type of equipment that converts video tapes onto his harddrive, and he doesn't watch any of the tapes until they are on his harddrive. Given that he has 7 months worth of 24/7 footage of him, not to mention a harddrive full of videos of Alex, that would take some time to process and watch.

IIRC Jay posted on his twitter that most of the tapes consisted of him driving. In-game it would probably take a while for something noteworthy to pop up.

I don't think it was because they almost got arrested for the boiler room, the red tower is a public place (I went there), and the house was the house they were living in at the time.

I think it would be for setting up an interview or something like that.

USA wants to adapt it into a comedy/drama series where the Operator is a detective who plays by his own rules and J is his sidekick. Calling it right now.

I'm not suggesting that they got in trouble for the boiler room--I'm suggesting that they had to get permission before they filmed there.

Judging by the number of tapes recovered from the safe, there is no way that Jay has 5040 hours' (7 months') worth of footage. We'd be talking hundreds, probably thousands of individual tapes.

If Jay was recording himself 24/7 that whole time... There's no way there's THAT MUCH footage.

I may be wrong, but I think they genuinely WERE almost arrested for filming there.

You aren't a true film student/independent filmmaker until you've almost been arrested for filming somewhere without permission. Razz Hell, in the Social Network, Harvard didn't want David Fincher filming on their campus, so he sneaked a film crew onto the grounds late one night, got the shot, and got the fuck out of there before somebody could catch them.
