I got one just now too! It's not the winning submission on the print, it's the ACTUAL final panel as drawn by the comic's artist. Oddly enough, my submission is vaguely similar in composition.

Quote:
CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY
Thank you for participating in the Super 8 Comic Contest! As a thank you for your submission, enclosed please find the final panel as intended by JJ Abrams and illustrated by Tommy Lee Edwards.

The exclusive image is a limited-edition reproduction authorized by Paramount Pictures & Bad Robot. The reproduction is an endeavor gloss cover that is FSC certified, acid free, archival & recycled smooth white printmaking paper. This edition was printed with four color process Kodak enhanced dry ink under the supervision of Schawk, Los Angeles, California.

The total worldwide authorized edition of this print is 500 exclusive pieces only. The master printing plates that produced this limited edition have been defaced.

This is to certify that all statements contained herein are true and correct.

Total edition size:

500

Year produced:
2011

So I'm wondering if this is a consolation prize, or just an acknowledgement that our submissions successfully went through and judgement is still pending. Any thoughts?

Have Wall Space...Neat Frame Needed!

It will be interesting to see who gets what....and why.

And yes mach1, it does look kinda like your submission, hey....great minds think alike!

It would make sense to me that contest submission contestants receive this print, but like I stated earlier, I did not submit any artwork.

The package was sent out Friday, the 24th of June, with an arrival date of June 27th.

Hey Mach1...did yours arrive safe and sound? Mine has a not so nice crush mark on it. (there goes the value).

Looking at the Certificate that came with the print, is does state that this is for contest participants.

I hope all super8 forum members get one! You guys and gals deserve it!

Same shipping date for me. Mine came a little bent, but nothing a day under some flat, heavy books won't fix. Also, keep in mind that I'm in L.A., so less travel=less opportunity for damage. In my opinion they really should have put thicker cardboard in the envelope than they did. But it's all in the past; nothing we can do about it now haha.

Haven't checked the mail today; hope something comes in. I'm taken aback by the winning picture. I mean, I colored mine with crayons... Shifty Eyes

Grats to everyone who has received one so far. I think it's interesting that Rocket Rob got one without submitting any art. Wonder what the chances are that more UF posters will receive one?

Also, want to buy a certificate of authenticity for my cube Razz

Haha as I said in an earlier post, that's not the winner. That's the actual final panel of the comic. The winner is still yet TBA. And yeah I did mine with sharpie, crayola colored pencils, and a wee bit of photoshop (although I did a rough sketch first in graphite).

Correct Me If I'm Wrong...

Mach1....I corrected my misstatement about the artwork being of the winning entrant. Embarassed

I wonder if they will crown a winner or winners? I did read on the contest website, one of the following rules:

Should the sponsor and judges, in their sole discretion, determine that there are insufficient entries worthy of being selected as a winner, they reserve the right to select less than six (6) winners....

Also, I want to say a Big Thank You to whoever sent me that Limited Edition Print! Very Happy

And to make sure you send some to the others on this Forum!

It's Deja Vu All Over Again....
...Or "Squeaky Wheel Gets Grease".

Somebody up there really really loves me!

Went to get lunch at my favorite Soup Shop. Where there is a Buddha Statue that you rub for good luck. Well I rubbed his belly and when I got back home....there was this envelope from Paramount Pictures.

Not sure what to think of it...at first I thought it might be my high school diploma...or a G.E.D. (Now I can get that job at Paramount)

To my suprise, it was none of the above. It was another Limited Edition Print! With a "Sorry for the Crushed Poster Note" attached to it. (I will post a pic of it later).

So now I have two Limited Edition Posters. One Good, One not so good.

I also have a "BIG THANK YOU" to who's ever responsible for reading yesterdays post and resending me a replacement poster!!! (that was quick!)

(someone at paramount pictures is reading the posts on this forum...how cool is that!

That's "MINT"!!!

From everyone here at the Unfiction Super8 Unforum ...WE LOVE YOU PARAMOUNT!!!

Fed Ex envelope from Paramount

As some of you might know, I've had my share of health problems, and on any given day I'm confined to bed most of that time; chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and just recently positional vertigo, so I learned of the comic contest two days before the deadline, and when I first read the rules, I thought that illustrations for the contest had to be mailed in, and it wasn't until the last day of the deadline that I quickly sketched out in pen and ink what I thought might be a reasonable end panel. I didn't have time to color it, or do it like I would have liked because of the above. I even had to have a roomie take it over to a friend's to have it scanned onto a flash drive and I submitted it.

I used to be a decent artist, and had I felt better I would never have sent in the roughed out sketch that I did--I tend to be a perfectionist, and would have used my Sharpies and other colored markers and pencils had I been in better health and more aware of the deadline, but I sent in the pen and ink sketch and also received the nice looking "Limited Edition" image with a with a stiff sheet of cardboard and the certificate of authenticity, though the upper right corner was bent because of poor handling by Fed EX.

And while I'm not ashamed of any of you seeing what I submitted, but I've had difficulty submitting images to the board before.

Essentially what the sketch depicted was Nelec looking up at the remains of the craft with a bottom window broke out and two tentacles extending down, one wrapped around (and the "spade-looking" end puncturing) the dog "Popeye," who had prior dove into the ocean, as the creature (inside the spacecraft) is being lowered down toward the cage.

I have three military men aiming weapons at the craft as Nelec says something like "I couldn't believe that 'Popeye' would've beat me to the front row!"

And like someone else mentioned, Fed Ex didn't take the best of care with the over-sized envelope the items came in.

When I first saw what the "final panel as intended by JJ Abrams" as stated in the certificate of authenticity looked like, I got the impression that the final panel I received was the winning entry "illustrated by Tommy Lee Edwards."

But then I got to thinking how would anyone, including Jane and her awesome mutant dog creature, know what the creature looked like. I just drew a couple of tentacles with "spade-looking" ends on them because I had read somewhere that that's what the creature had.

So, I don't know who won, though when I entered I asked to be notified when, and who the winners might be, and I haven't received anything yet (to my knowledge) regarding the aforementioned.

Hope everyone who's participated in the ARG would get something substantial for taking over a year out of their lives riding this roller coaster.

Best to all;

XL

Very cool, guys. I'm not much of an artist but I'm pretty decent at drafting, for engineering needs.

A Winner in Every Forum!

Hang in there Xeno, and the rest of you contest participants.

After visiting the contest site yesterday...I have yet to see a posting of any contest winners. These Things take time. They may not post any winners until the movie has made all its international release dates.

And Xeno....the way you described your submission sounds like a winner to me.

Remember, up to six winners!

Attached is a scan of the Certificate of Authenticity from the limited edition poster. Enjoy!
