I learnt Latin in high school and the authors of thereisnolist.ca probably haven't. Google Translate can be right but I guess the authors were trying to say Absolute Darkness and got the inflexion wrong. It is more likely to be a game title. There is a Yu-Gi-Oh and perhaps a Bleach game with that title.

OOG?

Hi guys.

I googled a bit on the latest entry, DATA MISSING. This talks about some missing software source with a .vgc file extension. This appears to be a ViziGen Code Template for some software from a company named ViziGen. This software is a developing tool, and generates source code.

I "spoilered" the next paragraph because it's a little bit off-topic research.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The company has two websites, www.vizigen.com and www.vizigen.co.uk. First one is an average company website. The second one, on the other hand, doesn't open in Firefox, but instead offers a download with the filename oxbmStQ3.part (a .part is a download fragment). This, viewed in NotePad, turns out to be a C# HTML hybrid source code. The whole site, delved deeper into, consists of pages not instantly viewable. They all have to be edited to be recognized as HTML. They have a header section which states that Page Language is C#, and if you remove it and save the file as html, it becomes somewhat viewable in your browser.

With this name a YouTube channel also exists at http://www.youtube.com/ViziGenX which has 3 clips of CoD: Black Ops.

I think this whole stuff is not part of the game, because this viral wasn't as sophisticated this far as to involve fake (or real?) websites of companies. Still, I investigated it because who knows? I also emailed Tsilon Siereht.

BTW Oeil Or means Golden Eye in French, so the line

Software COPY // 'OEILor' ver.00* cr.registry FAILED

refers to the number 7, as in 007.

May I ask what exactly you emailed our "friend" (still not sure what exactly to call it/"her")?

Also, meant to post this earlier: I briefly caught eye of a Trillian notification saying that Tsilon had logged off of Facebook Chat. While this could very well be a "PM" catching a mistake (Facebook logs you into chat by default), it could also mean that we should be keeping tabs on our chat lists to see if that happens again.

If I should happen upon such a moment, what should I say to this... entity?

Yes, that's a good word... entity...

Actually I kept it simple with some "hi, is there a list? can you put me on it?" Originally wanted to write only "hi wassup?" Smile

Additionally, if you go to http://thereisnolist.ca/thereisnolist.xml, every entry has a timestamp. Every timestamp is a multiple of 10 minutes. So far it looks like this:

10:00
9:00
8:30
9:30
8:30
9:30
8:00
9:00
9:00
9:00
9:00
9:00
9:00
9:00
11:00
9:00
9:10
8:40
8:20
8:50

Is it supposed to mean something? Perhaps it's a code and we should try to decode it. Or it's nothing at all.

Not sure...

Anyway, it's obviously not the exact words you would see if it happened on a real computer, but the "DATA MISSING" error on the site seems to be describing a missing/corrupt sources list file on a Linux system. Without that file, it wouldn't be able to connect to any repo/PPA server (the database read error), because it wouldn't know which server to connect to.

...or, at least that's my best interpretation. Probably unintentional on their part (and far-fetched on my part). Still no clue what to do here. I have a nasty feeling that this is the last clue we get until we solve this one.

The game in the previous line of that entry (Goldeneye) is a clue -- Tenebrae = "dark" and absolutus = "perfect". Perfect Dark was the next FPS game released by Rare, who also did Goldeneye. It was released for the N64 on May 22, 2000 or 22.05.00. Now available on XBLA!

EDIT:

Going from that, since Perfect Dark made it to Xbox 360 but Goldeneye was re-released on the Wii, I believe the entry's solution is:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
ACTIVATE series system 360-code JUMP IN
Software COPY // 'OEILor' ver.007 cr.registry FAILED
Software COPY // 'TenebraeABSOLUTUS' 22.05.00 SUCCESSFUL

making the code: 3675 8151 7990 8193

It looks like a Nintendo points number, which I don't need, so if someone wants to try for it, at least report back to see if this is right? Smile

Not the last clue.

Exciting. Now, Magnetic Data Storage can obviously be MDS. Analog/Digital can be AD, or if it comes to colour viewing, TV, though it all seems too obvious. Skyward Sword is a Zelda game. LNW*F is up to you, I couldn't find anything, though it may be something related to Nintendo Wii.

Sony Vice President of practically anything is Kevin Butler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Butler_%28character%29). Child of Eden is a game for both X360 and PS3, in which the player must protect Project Lumi.

"This activation number has already been used"

Yup, good and used.

First of all, as seems to have become the custom, two posts for today and yesterday.

6/20/11
XX**YK**8J**C*JZ
TERMINATE // INTREPID PRODUCT *.*.
/*SURVIVE*/ PARENT == LIO**EAD + P.*.
MM1==*RM | MM2==*RM

NOTE: the + you see in the above text was present only in the source code. On the actual webpage, it was displayed as a ± . I used the + because it was in the source.

6/21/11
***7* - 7**TB - *7646 - 3*DB* - 2JY26
TW*GA*OUR1* TAG.RENEW
VIRUS DETECTED:TYPE'**4WILY.Y20**'
PRIMARY - 30.10.** | TERTIARY - "WHEN IT'S DONE"/UNKNOWN ARGUMENT[DBO]

The only thing that stood out to me from today/yesterday's clues is that "LIO**EAD" could be "LIONHEAD". Don't know why I thought that though, just kinda seemed familiar and it fit.

In addition to these two posts, both the Twitter and Facebook had a post:
Quote:
Preliminary database re-population routine scheduled for 118834493165788ns.

I would say that is correct, and the missing letter in P.* is likely going to stand for M, the initials of Peter Molyneux (one of their developers).

Not too sure about any of the others though.

I know i'll probably miss out on a juicy reward - but hey. Community spirit and all Laughing

FYI - I posted on Tsilon Siereht's facebook about her latest message.

Its nanoseconds and which equates to 33.1 hours. From the time of posting 11am 21st June = 8pm 22nd June.

Was stuck on this for quite a while until I finally decided to msg Tsilon on FB and ask if the date was actually 30.11 instead of 30.10 -- Diablo was released on Nov 30, 1996.

Got a msg confirming and looks like they updated the site (lol, my ARG FB account has a silly name):
Quote:
temp ERROR==RESOLVED
sapien[AMYPANDA]
print('Your parsing service proves invaluable.');
edit COMPLETE // 30.10.** became 30.11**

And the entry was fixed. Still not able to redeem the Xbox Live code, though -- it still says it's invalid? Not sure because usually doesn't it say the code has already been used? Anyway, I figured I'd send another msg to Tsilon just in case, but if someone else gets it, lucky!!

Also this entry:
Quote:
TERMINATE // Intrepid product *.*.<br>

is referring to the cancelled Intrepid game B.C.
No idea about MM1==?RM MM2==?RM, I was thinking either Might & Magic or Megaman but couldn't come up with anything.

This time two, both for today.

**** - 95BE - *G**
*.G. | NEW HARDWARE FOUND('MEMORIALUNIT')
UPDATE: ***CHARACTERSKIN.APP - "MEET THE HAT"
REGION SCAN // MEX.IMMERSION ***

**7* 8*53 ***5 373*
ASSESS // *STONE - *SAGE - 1SWORD - CORESERIES_VERSION.*
COLDBLADE_CONFLICT | COVERSAPIEN_NO.9*
DATA // INIT('COSMIC_JELLYFISH')DT.(*++).*.**

Once again, these + were both displayed as ± when the page was rendered. I'm thinking that this is just some quirk with whatever font they're using and that we should treat them as + because that's what's in the source (plus, generally, they make a lot more sense than ± do).

No ideas on any of these.

Also, as far as I could tell, nothing happened at 8PM last night. Any ideas?
