caesar's now doing some initial testing. it's very bizarre, to say the least, to watch these proceedings. if i hadn't sacrificed my ankle bones to the whomp gods myself at one point, i'd have a really hard time believing my eyes. as it is, when you're confronted with this sort of data for days on end, in various forms, it all begins to become familiar and not as surprising.

you're right, caesar, this is not unlike music. the form, the syntax, the overlay of melody to bassline - it's all there. the dissonance is the only blip in this landscape that gives me the wrong kind of shivers.

are we fighting ourselves? have we been, all along?

i can see more of us arriving now. what a vortex this tourist trap turned out to be!

perhaps this is the last time i will ever be able to communicate in such a manner again. i have a sneaking suspicion that lots of changes are in store for us, after a time. new tasks, ways of coping. i am scared to death. my heart is pounding so hard i can feel it in my eyeballs. the collector is beautiful and awful and amazing. i can't wait for you all to meet him and to see what he can do.

 		if *.jpg is Caesar, and there was a message from the AI man (garbage collector) in one of Caesar's files, so Caesar=GC?

BTW, what is whomp and what is spike?

The GC may not know that each person uses file extension of their own. So he may have accidently used caesars, or, since the hackers probably only look for file extensions that they know, like us, they would of never seen his message unless he used a known extension..

Or, since Caesar is the leader of the group, the rest of the hackers would be more likely to look at .jpg files than they would files posted by anyone else.

This is should probably go in the speculation thread, but could this hacker "Spawn" be a nod to comics legend Todd McFarlane? His company makes the Matrix figurines; You can find his website here, www.spawn.com (it isn't in-game, but they certainly do have some very cool Matrix stuff)

Ceaser = "The One" = Jesus Christ
Texel = "Trinity" = Mary Magdeline
Scratch = "Cypher" = Judas

Something to think about...

If not a prequel then quite possibly a new version of the Matrix.

It looks to me like the Collector is offering the hackers a chance to step out of this world and return to it only as ghosts (well, intangible entities, but the concept is similar)

Assuming the Collector can be trusted. But that reminds me of something...

Yes, definitely creepy... but probably Ethan will be able to follow Dina now and they will be together again.

 		A whomp is what the hackers called the paranormal anomalies that they were tracking. These whomps caused an increase in traffic, or spike, in servers near the location that they took place.

The hackers picked up on the activity that was caused by Beth and GC (AI Man) experimenting with his abilitys. So they went camping in the same area that Beth was in. Beth met Caesar and realized he was Jesse. She told GC about their problems and he agreed to help (see Beth's log http://www.little-boxes.net/log.html ).

Beth explains the garbage collector function like this in an e-mail to Phil (see his metadex), "So when a computer no longer needs to access something, the garbage collector basically gets rid of it." So his function is to get rid of people the system no longer wants. He was responsible for getting rid of James and Lynne Avery.
