Assuming there's actually something to decode here, it makes me think of SSTV. I messed around with it a bit once. It's normally used to transmit an image as a series of noises that can be turned back to an image once they are received. However, transmitting a normal audio file instead causes the image to be picked up as colour static that resembles Carol's image.
So if I could, I'd run the strip through an SSTV program to try to turn it into audio. I don't think I can try it on this laptop, I might try it later- and no promises that I'm right.

 		I'm running it through AudioPaint myself, and will see if a frequency analysis of it in Audacity will yield a message of any sort. I'll leave the SSTV up to you.

Edit--Found nothing. I encoded it into an SS too, but I couldn't see how that would help. No stegs were found in it either. I'm not sure what else I can do.

 		from what I can gather at Carol's twitter, the static was a glitch on her phone. False alarm! She's getting it replaced.

 		The order of umbra site changed a bit, mostly superficial things, the countdown and exact location are now available as soon as you click on the gate and the puzzle is no longer available. It might just be because I already signed up on this computer, but the signup button is still available so I dont think so. Can anyone confirm the change?

I looked at the source of the new page but didn't find anything that looked off.

At the bottom of the front page, it still says "Do you Dare Enter?" Clicking on the gates, yes, the inside page is new.

The signup page is also new. No longer within an /etaitini/ directory, it is linked from the new 'choice' page, and the logo is now the golden coat of arms, rather than the all-seeing-eye. (I checked the old path which still has the password protection, but that signup page also now has the new logo)

Yes, they were from the apostate, who has a twitter account, as pointed out by Carol on her blog.

That's just how I feel. I hope, perhaps, he is still alive, but his soul is torn apart or something... I don't know. Carol can't get a hold of Sam either.

I mentioned this ARG to celina, who is heading to SDCC now. She knows to look out for LAGP stuff, but probably has not seen the Umbra logo nor the mystery "A" symbol. This will be interesting, to watch how this unfolds for the "mundanes" out there.
