A few people on twitter (@dmcwatters, @enderzero, and @s_oldham) that have seen the movie say that the meaning of mint is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
that the kids say "That's so mint" meaning "That's so cool"

Dunno if there's more to it than that... Hope there is.

MINT Tie-In

Maybe its a tie in with some sort of mint gum promotion that is yet to be announced.

I read some of the movie reviews...and one critic concluded his review of super 8 with the word "MINT"!

So who knows...ask Jane and her magic 8 ball, maybe they know, she knows everything else. Laughing

You do have a "Magic 8 Ball" don't you Jane?

They gave them out when you signed up for this "Super 8 Mystery Tour". Or did you not get one?

The person who I initially seen tweet "What is the #Super8Secret? http://www.super8secret.com" was @tamarlovesu (& she was the 4th person to use the #tag). After checking her timeline, she was part of the Paramount Super 8 International junket crew in London. Now that they are blatantly using the word
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"mint" it reminded me of where I first seen it referenced. It was RT'd by Lindelof the day after the first press screening in LA.

Mint guess

Operation Hardtack Nuclear Tests in 1958 were named after types plants (mostly, but not all types of trees). Only 3 of these tests were officially listed as high-altitude tests. "Mint" is not one of the official names of the test, and perhaps, given recent revealed footage, refers to the high altitude test is suggested caused the failure of the referenced craft.

hmmmm...
interesting.. very interesting..

there's an arg going on for 5gum right now actually:
TestSubjectsNeeded.com

here's the forum.

a couple of weeks ago, a 5gum ad was found in some issues of dc comics. it was found to have a string of morse code at the bottom which led to the website above..
people were speculating that it was part of the dark knight rises arg, but then it looked like it was just for gum itself, because there were articles published saying that 42e wasn't part of the dark knight rises.

a couple of weeks ago, we were treated to a "free comic book" stapled in several issues of dc comics.

coincidence?
perhaps...

Ah, how these ARG's love to bend the brain. "Mint" as it pertains to Super 8, as has been said previously, is simply a reference to the kids' 70's lingo. When it appears on that page, it is merely congratulating you for what you did. "Mint!"

I wish, but they never said the "something" were getting on Tuesday is a tangible prop of piece of merch. I'm leaning toward a final trailer. some big piece of info, or a big publicity stunt. OF COURSE I'd be glad to be proven wrong on this one. Very Happy

Don't know if this is anything or not, but...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
When I went to the screening of super 8 this morning, I wore my rocket poppeteers shirt. The moderator of the screening immediately noticed the logo and name and asked me what its relevance to super 8 was? I simply said it was part of the ARG for the movie and she responded with "Oo ok. I was just wondering because the studio hired me to drive an ice cream truck on Thursday and pass the popsicles out." Obiously, I asked if she could tell me about where they were going to be and what time, but she said the studio had not told her where to be yet. She seemed like she regretted telling me about the event haha. I don't know if its because she wasnt supposed to say anything, or if I was just an annoying fanboy haha. She also mentioned that the truck was being rented locally. Anyways, I'm wondering if the studio will be hiring people to do this across the country and will reveal locations and times on Tuesday.

Haha dont really know if this needed spoiler tags or not, but better safe than sorry.

When the news broke it was from unofficial sources. (*edit* although they were RT'd by @super8movie) I didn't mean we're getting something as in "here, have this".. I meant we'll be told whatever the heck #Super8secret is on Tuesday at 3PM EST. Sorry if you misunderstood, I didn't mean to elude to anything else, I just type the way I talk Wink

Went to the Comic Store and Picked up the DC Comic "Green Arrow" to get my free Super 8 insert. I did not notice the 5gum ad on the inside front cover. But there it is... along with morse code at the bottom of the ad.

The Ad is hyping "COBALT" peppermint gum. Hummmm, peppermint is made with mint....could this be the gum of Super8Secret - #Mint?

Guess I will head on down to the local 7-11 and pick some up.

Cobalt...is that not some sort radioactive material....alpha, beta, ...cobalt!

The markings on the Scintalator...A...B...C, ALPHA, BETA, COBALT!

Is it the Cobalt that brings the monster back to life...or the combination of these three forms of radiation?

Cobalt-60 is a commercially important radioisotope, used as a radioactive tracer and in the production of gamma rays.

Cobalt is the active center of coenzymes called cobalamin or vitamin B12, and is an essential trace element for all animals. Cobalt is also an active nutrient for bacteria, algae and fungi.

The four dihalides of cobalt(II) are known: cobalt(II) fluoride (CoF2, pink), cobalt(II) chloride (CoCl2, blue), cobalt(II) bromide (CoBr2, green), cobalt(II) iodide (CoI2, blue-black). These halides exist as anhydrous and hydrates.

Whereas the anhydrous (without water) dichloride is blue, the hydrate (with water) is red.

Did they get the cubes wet and bombard them with a combination of gamma rays...hence the three dots?

The word cobalt is derived from the German kobalt, from kobold meaning "goblin", a superstitious term used for the ore of cobalt by miners.

The TestSubjectsNeeded website, has a sensory test..that reminds me of the "Lost" series sprite soda commercials...with all the stop and go photography.

I signed up for the ID card, so that I too could "react 2" the monster in super 8.

They gave out magic 8 balls? I've been looking into this pool of golden cheese the whole time...I miss out on everything Crying or Very sad

The only thing I know for sure is... I am not sure about any of it...that is for sure...surely you know that? Wink Don't confuse absolute deranged thoughts with being free from error. I just say what the hell the monkey tells me too..because If I don't....wait its coming.. shhhh Shocked

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, it should be G A F (drop an octave) F C...

Of course, doing the hand gestures with the notes helps, especially when you're trying to hitch a ride on a galactic cruiser.
