OFFTOPIC-Shop's Open!!! *link removed*

I am so excited!! For all those interested, the Shop for Emphraxis Core paraphanalia is open:

[Edit: Link removed. See reply later in thread. -SpaceBass]

I will be willing pay to upgrade the shop so that I can do more products. As a Free basic shop, the system only allows me to use a product once. Upgrading would allow me to do as many as I wanted to. If you notice each product in the store is a different type of item. There is only one Thong.... etc.

Tell your friends in #Matrix. If I get enough interest and upgrade the store I can put up stuff without the Exphraxis logo. I could also make it so that a little profit is made and give the to the PM's for all their hard work and gratitute. Like a charity, but I'll just give it to them and not write it off or anything. How does that sound?

Just got myself a texel shirt!

Probably later today I will get my girlfriend the spagetti strap.
(thought about the thong, but figured that she might not appreciate that)

Tell her that it is another puzzle of the game and has to be conquered.

Should we make this sticky. so that everyone sees it?

Copyrights anyone?

Wedge/whoever is responsible:

Have you ever heard of copyrights?

I do believe the images you're using (Wongmo's for example) are purchased and used by permission only. If you haven't bought any of those photos, please don't use them. It's quite illegal.

Just to let you know... Smile

We already had a pretty intense (well, actually we just kind of brushed over it) discussion about these copyright issues in the t-shirt thread: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3136&highlight=copyright

EDIT: To anyone who might ask: no I'm not going to find the exact arguments made

And, at least with the 'Emphraxis Core' logo, we developed that idea, so if everything else does (for some inexplicable reason, go down the tubes) then we still have that to remind us of the good times... yeah baby, we'll always have Emphraxis Core...

The first thing they, if someone owns the copyright, can ask us not to use it (Cease and Desist) which will be fine. But I think the pictures have been found in royalty free collections. which means anyone can use them

I did find something interesting googling wongmo(not related to the game):

http://www.tibet.ca/wtnarchive/2000/7/12_3.html

http://www.lamayeshe.com/lamazopa/depression.shtml

http://www.silkthangka.com/artist.htm

Wix,
If you have seen where those pictures or know of the discussion that specifies the owner/site that sells them, I would be happy to comply.

Much Appreciated.

This doesn't make Wongmo the next Dalai Lama... does it? Shocked (J/K - Big time!)

Wedge, shooting first and asking questions later is not advised with the US legal system. Just because you use something without permission, and someone can ask you "not to use it" later is REALLY bad if they should chance to sue...

Royalty-free does not mean FREE. It means that once you buy the image, you can use it for your own commercial purposes. You have to BUY the rights first...

The pictures you want can be found at http://www.photos.com or other sites... for example, the Wongmo picture is at:

http://www.photos.com/en/search/close-up?oid=2677767&a=&pt=&bl=%2Fen%2Fsearch%2Findex%3Fb%3Dk%26t%3D7%26s%3D1%26q%3Dswedish%26ppage%3D1&hoid=0396b005e870a4e2cb8b5391baa48d1f

Cheers!

P.S. I'm really down on "fuzzy" ethics... stuff like mp3 sharing and downloading anything like saddens me. It's just plain wrong.

While many of the pics in the ARG are found out-of-game (i.e. Beth McConnell's picture), aren't many of the pictures made by the PMs? Like the paintover pictures for example? In that case you'll have to somehow get permission from the PMs right? How do you do that? I have no idea. I'd wait till the end of this ARG maybe. Or email one of the characters and just hope that they actually read them (I doubt it).

Or you could give this website to beth's AIM. She won't show her acknowledgement of it, by replying back and saying yeah that's cool or some sh*t. But it's safe to say the PMs are running that AIM handle and they'll see that, visit the thread and find some way to warn us about copyrights. Probably by e-mailing one of the mods or something.

As for the out-of-game pics that are used in the ARG (Beth's pic) you have to get permission and probably pay to use that picture the same way the PMs of this ARG did.

EDIT: When you figure all this out remember this thread for all the pics of the ARG - pics and gifs *shameless plugging*

Then you're using the internet... why?
I don't wish to turn this into a discussion on the politics, economics and ethics of the Internet and its users, but since we all want t-shirts:
The whole point of the Internet is that people have the ability to share information and ideas (and information does not have to be just text - that can be film, music, photography, etc.).
What saddens me is when companies start charging you for access to information; access to information, particularly within a democracy, is a right, and corporations, no matter how powerful, should never take that away.
If you're concerned about artists, film-makers and authors failing to make money as a result of P2P file-sharing, then perhaps you should take a look at the Electronic Frontier Foundation's solution (which is probably the best proposed so far; a shame no-one in the American or British governments seems interested): http://www.eff.org/share/

Wix is right... gotta get rid of the photos. Sad If the PMs decide to make their own t-shirts later, they could with no problems. But since we don't have permission at this point, it is probably safer not to offer them yet.

Obviously we can use the Emphraxis logo, and I doubt the PMs would complain about the tapestry image, but perhaps someone should send Caesar an e-mail. Razz

(Or, perhaps you could create your own tapestry using yeahyeah's generator?)

Sorry for opening the can-o-worms. Hopefully it can be stopped right now, as this isn't the place, and I really shouldn't have said anything! Sad

No more comment on my part Smile

[EDIT] Although I hope you take my suggestions about the photos for the T-Shirts seriously. I'd really hate to see someone sued! Sad [/EDIT]

Actually, I'm pretty much convinced that the PMs read this forum. Chances are (very good chances are) that they know all about this. If they don't want us to use their images, the ones they created, they'll surely find a way to let us know. I can think of several methods of doing that, and the PMs are definitely more creative than I am... so we're probably safe with the in-game images. The ones taken from other places, I don't know about, I'm no expert on copyright laws.
