So they use ARGUS to trap it/ shut it down.. it falls into water maybe breaks into a few sections. they take the sections and cockpit back.
It seems as if the creature was in hibernation upon recovery and they decided to test the ship and try to get a reaction from it by bombarding it with magnetic waves.(like argus)
Then we go into the whole its connected to the biological cube thing...so Cooper is connected to the cubes.. they start testing cubes and cooper starts to wake up.
Thats my guess hon.. anyone can correct me if they want,

Yep, that's what I meant. Now I have to watch it again and really scrutinize that scene.
Sorry I wasn't too clear with my question.
I had just watched it and was so full of questions I forgot why I came to this thread to begin with.
Plus I was stoned,
And thinking about sesame chicken.
I wanted to post that my favorite part was the film reel they finally get back showing the original train wreck and the alien crawling around.

the bus scene. seeing the alien tip over the bus and brutally kill all of the officers was so badass, also, this was the first time we really get to see the monster in all of its glory. after he kills all of the soldiers, he just crawls into the woods. AWESOME. The alien sort of looked like Abomination from the Incredible Hulk movie mixed with cloverfield + 2 more arms.
+1 That was my favorite part as well, not only because we see the monster for the first time in total attack mode but also because of the helpless feeling it gave me for the kids locked in the back of the bus. I was thinking they shouldve been in an armored car like a Brinks truck with machine gun turrents!

I couldn't agree with you more!! Charles sitting in the chair with a pipe was hilarious!
I have to admit that I thought the scene where Jackson/Joe are arguing about Alice (although brief) was VERY powerful..
"Romero Chemical" was one of my fav's as well!

The scene involving the soon to be immortal movie line, "....bad things happen....bad things happen.....but you can still LIVE...."
Super 8 is simply equivalent to Close Encounters and E.T. and is on it's way to becoming a classic by those who appreciate and recognize a well conceived fantasy movie when they see one. The ones who hate it, especially those in the industy, are simply responsible for both producing and going to the majority of films that have ruined the genre over the last 20 years.
Best genre film I've seen since The Mist!
And lens flares? They're fucking cool so get over it!!!

It was created by the same guy that did Clover, and the monster from Star Trek. Not too far of a stretch to say they all have a distinct similarity...

Lets think of the cubes as magnetic shape memory alloys or utilizing magnetization saturation.
So you bond magnets together by charging them with the same signal.
Bombard them with different signal and they disrupt.. but if you utilize the same magnetic signal on them.. they form the bonded memory.
I think ..anyways..

Yep, I totally get that part of it, but I was wondering more about the B&W footage you see of the doctors.
They're watching a structure( I'm assuming the alien's ship) then it kinda lets go and crumbles into the cubes, Was it the alien trying to re-assemble his ship, or were the doctors in the footage trying to re-assemble it?

I take this view as well. Ill try to elaborate so bear with me. In UFO lore and the X Files series, they consistently state that most UFO's arent mechanical in the way we think of machines. That they are biological in nature, even "Alive". It is also stated that these same UFO's are bonded to their pilots in some psychic-spiritual connection. That's how they are piloted and fueled, by some telekinetic way. Using Jane's statements as an example, I believe that the resonating frequency that activates Cooper's ship is the same that is generated by Love. Most likely something the Military never tried or showed to either the ship or Cooper. Thats why it didnt work (reconstitute). Think of Love in Electromagnetic terms as Zero point energy or unlimited power. What the military did to Cooper most likely caused this emotion to be LOST in Cooper. The Military's torture of Cooper and the cubes resulted in his justifed anger, fear, and hatred which destroyed his ability to Love/believe/rebuild. (Much like MIB's humanity in LOST). I think this is what Joe learned from Cooper during their psychic exchange, hence, " I know bad things happen, But you can still Live" (Love) What Joe did was to reconstitute that in him which simultaneously caused Cooper's super magnet to resonate and reactivate the ship from Cooper's memory(belief), hence "He's building a model". I interpreted the emotions displayed on Joe and the girl's face during the takeoff as Love building to full power and once the ship got high enough i could feel Cooper thinking "I'm FREE", while Joe looking up, takes a breath of relief and smiles.
Thats just my take on it and it may be just me trying to fit things to my own mindset, but then again thats all i can really do.
Favorite part of the movie......
Dr. Woodward: "He's in me, you know. As I am in him. So, when you see him next, as I'm sure you will, I'll BE WATCHING YOU TOO."

Hmm, Kinda Like A Magnet. I agree also. There are forces in the universe that are a constant, and magnetism may be one of them....who needs rocket fuel when you got magnetism!
Heck, I used to attract alot of hot chicks with my magnetism...but then I got old...now I repel hot chicks.
Aside from that, I like your analogy of Joe and Cooper at the end.
When Joe gets through to Cooper, the magnatron kicks into high gear.
Did not realize that till you brought it up. Thanks for doing so.

I'd have to say one of my favorite parts of the movie was honestly the conversation/interaction between Joe and Alice when the power popped back on and Joe's home movie came on. Out of all the times I saw the movie that part still got me every time.
Also I loved how fluid and natural all the dialog between the kids seemed. Usually with kid movies everything seems forced...but in this it didn't. It fit together so so well!
