UPDATE: Coyote Dispatch (Oct. 20, 2003) Two new articles:

NRU awarded prestigious commendation for new Physics Center
This week, New River University was awarded the prestigious Arnold Sommerfeld Endowment for 2003 for the landmark design of the new Fock Research Center. This endowment is actually a recognition for innovation and recognizes various facilities worldwide for their potential contributions to the field of quantum mechanics. As expected, the actual contribution will not be known until it is actually measured and exists until then in an undetermined state. Traditionally, the measurement is conducted three years after the award is presented.
The award, which mirrors the paradox presented in the analogy of Schrödingers cat, is meant to illustrate the pioneering nature of the field. Former recipients of this distinguished award include Toledo University, Rutgers, and M.I.T.
A short ceremony was held on the steps of the new physics building. Dr. Kristoff Zeladzny accepted the award on behalf of NRU. He was quoted as saying, "I never intended to shake up the world with my work. I'm grateful that no one was injured or killed this time." No explanation was given for this cryptic statement and Zeladzny was rushed from the podium immediately afterwards to attend to an ongoing experiment.
And a related article:

Power outtages leave residents in the dark
Coyote Dispatch sends its very own "Erin Brockovich" team to investigate the rash of power problems. Based on a letter to the editor last week from one Mr. Fitzwilliam, Jan Arbunkle has willingly stepped up to get to the bottom of the so called "dirty power" problems that have been bothering Catalina residents this past year.
Several contacts at the power station were willing to talk with us. They are as perplexed over the power grid problems as the residents of Catalina are. Diagnoses have been run, and all the measures have been taken. All it shows is a mysterious "power drain" appearing from an outside source. Further research shows the power drain is coming from no other place than NRU.
Making our way for NRU, we were met with resistance. Nobody would provide any answers to the Catalina residents' pressing questions. NRU's head of security, Craig Becker came out to talk with us. He claims, "we here at NRU are just as confused as Catalina residents are with this power situation. We are currently conducting our own investigation into as why the power problems are caused by something on NRU's campus." There were further questions, but Becker said that's all he could tell us for now, and escorted us off campus.
A few days later, we returned to the campus to talk with Becker again. He wasn't on campus at the time. Resorting to interviewing students from various departments, hoping they could shed more light on the issue. A few engineering students admit that the power problems interfere with their work, but know that what they do doesn't interfere with the power. Quite a bit of the students we interviewed say that it might be the new Fock center on campus. They noticed no problems occurred with the power until some time through construction.
We left a note with Becker's office, about the urgency of the power situation being related to the Fock center. It has been three days since the note was left, and no comment from Becker himself. A representative with his office says details of their investigation will not be released at this time, but they will let us know what they find afterwards.
Also a new puzzle, a crytptogram this week, which is discussed at http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=23557#23557

Spec Power outages Per one of the conversations we had with Caretaker the lower levels of the Fock center were in use starting about a year ago. Hmmmm... wonder if it is related to the California Grid problems as well...
The new collider must be drawing on the system a heck of a lot when they really get it revved up...

Zeladney said "I never meant to shake up the world with my work..." could he be referring to an earthquake?

One of the hidden docs we found was the one on the Tabas Earthquake... which is probably also the death he is refering too as well (and the anthrax outbreak from another article).

. there is a theory that if you throw enough resources into things, you can make miracles happen, examples follow:
use enough lead and you can stop all waves/particles.
put enough energy between two parallel plates and you can teleport things.
put enough money into star wars and the guys working on it will be able to make it work.
the first one is falsitious because it's a matter of probability as to stopping particles.
the second one is ridiculous, i don't even understand what the hell this one is about.
the third one is... *thinks about employment prospects* ...a great idea, keep giving money to those physicists!
in this case we're looking at the energy=time travel case, through some manner of acme device, zeladzny must be draining the power supply of catalina to power his time travel machine.
i can only hope they put the giant capacitors in the right way...

Power outage times Incase it comes into play later, according to the letter to the editor from the Passions soap opera fan, the outages seem to occur between 1:00 and 2:00 in the afternoons. I looked up the programming schedule for the Tucson area NBC station.
*Edit*
Also it seems the power outages started to occur around the time Jake came back. Now I'm wondering if Jake is still around or has he mysteriously disappeared again.

A bit of a little easter egg here. 5 of these 6 people are from the Project MU team, which ended -just- as the hiatus on this game was scheduled to run out. A little collusion going on there?
Don't know who Derek is, and they missed Jeff, Steve, and Sean.

Anthrax, you're right about it being an Easter Egg, but it has nothing to do with Project MU (other than some of the same people were involved). It's actually an homage to the LockJaw PM's, and the 8 pies is a reference to the infamous where.gif puzzle.

I stand corrected! I just really got into this stuff as CTW was starting up, never got a chance to play LockJaw.

It may be a homage to the LJ crew, but 8x8 is also the layout of a chess board. I think some of the ads and articles in Coyote Dispatch may be doing double duty. There is tha article on Serpent Wrangling for instance... Serpent is an encryption algorythm, but is can also be seen as part of some churches religious observances, or it can just refer to the fact that there are a lot of snakes in Arizona, not all of which are reptiles.

Um, I think Spookykid may have been referring to Ronald Regan's Star Wars satalite anti-missle network (OK, the United States, but it was an actor President that made the freakin' term main stream and not just for Hollywood)... (but I am probably wrong on what Spooky was referring to...)

Has anyone attempted the puzzle in the Oct 20th Coyote Dispatch? It seems there is a little mistake in there. The word after the last comma should be "nsuv" instead of "nauv."
