The umbrella, I suppose, could be a symbol for willful ignorance, protection from uncomfortable knowledge. "Retraction" could refer to closing up the umbrella and accepting uncomfortable knowledge.

The alt text is "Ophiuchus."

Rasalhauge is the brightest star in the constellation Ophiuchus, "the serpent holder." Ophiuchus is also sometimes suggested as a 13th zodiac sign.

Nice theory. Ofiuco is also a symbol of "change". That's because the serpent, they "change" their skin.

I'm from Argentina and joined some groups in spanish languaje, but nothing be found yet... The good thing is I'm sure they are not monitoring that sites.

One is Altair.png -- alt text is two sets of ASCII code (&#9788 &#9650) which translates to a sun (☼) and a triangle pointing up (▲)

The other is Alphekka.png -- alt text is ASCII code &#9730 which translates to our favorite black umbrella image (☂)

Altair is the brightest star in the constellation Aquila. Alphekka (also known as Gemma) is the brightest star in the constellation Corona Borealis

Ive been following for a week or two. Out of all the theories i've heard, i totally like this one the best. Does anyone know anything about the coronet project and germany? I can't see them having all the references and soundbites without it being relevant.

175,000 makes a comment about the photo being taken in 1934.

 		I'm not sure how much this is related but come August, Earth will be aligned with a comet named Elenin. Supposedly it will come closest around August 3rd of this year. Some people are saying this is the reason why NASA sent out those Family Emergency Preparedness emails back in May-June.

So, we have a site named 8-3-11.info, which claims something will actually happen on August 3rd. On the front page you can see the image of a young female known as "Belle". Further investigating on the site, you'll find an umbrella written in Wingdings. This is a much speculated subject and people usually refer to it as a metaphor for "protection".

Throughout the formspring account of the movement we've learned that the personnel involved in this project goes by numbers rather than names, 18,000, 21,000, 68,000 and 175,000 (with the latter one being the higher hierarchy) and others.

Soon after the discovery, an image ( http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/1507/transprogresspngwkey.png ) "leaked" from the headquarters of the 8-3-11.info movement, with an odd alphabet, which was soon decoded. People have speculated about the figure being a radio transmission tower. Soon after, a new image leaked with more symbols that were left undecoded ( http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=20p7ygm&s=7 ). The personnel stated that their alphabet has "38 symbols".

Further investigating the cause, it is revealed via formspring that Belle is physically sick. The leaders of the movement insist on "spreading the word" on the 8-3-11. They are also accepting applications to join the movement, although not everybody got in.

EDIT: Oh, I also forgot the recent picture called TopDown.png. It depicts an aplhabet written on a grid paper. Each letter is 4 units high, and, coincidentally (or not), the letters are 38 units wide. Here's the link: http://8-3-11.info/TopDown.png

Did they ever actually say that something would happen on that date? All I ever saw directly from them is that all would be revealed on that date.

Did they ever CONFIRM that it was made of two images put together? All I ever saw is that ambiguous "aren't we all two halves of a person?" answer that they gave.

Also you forgot about 36,000.

And earlier in this thread someone decoded the second cipher using the grid alphabet in the TopDown.png. The top three words on the cipher combine into the word CONVERTABLE, which is most likely significant since they have been hinting at it with all the talk of retractions and TopDown.

Good synopsis. I'm gonna try to type up a more detailed one too. What I want is a list of all the theories there are so far.

I've never seen how they've got it to CONVERTABLE, could you explain it a bit? the TopDown.png is just an alphabet written on a grid, I don't see how their symbols connect to the alphabet.

Also, the "synopsis" is pretty much written out of the head, don't judge me too much bro. Smile

Yeah, I got it figured by the time. I still think the TopDown.png hides the alphabet. We just need to find a way.

 		I can confirm you can get 'convertable' using similar methods. I'm not sure of the other three string of words, though.

Does it bother anyone else that "convertable" isn't a word, or rather it is spelled wrong? This, I think means one of three things. One: the misspelling is a clue. Two: these folks were sloppy in their coding and misspelled the word accidentally. Or three: deriving "convertable" from that message is a coincidence. Honestly, I'm leaning towards the third possibility, because I don't see where the clue is leading us.
I'm also a little troubled by the fact that that second coded message didn't come from the 8-3-11.info site or the formspring site, but was only leaked on this forum. Do we have any solid evidence that the second coded message is legit at all?
