I think part of the backlash (from fans) has been not so much the participation but what they are bringing to the table. They may have been niche franchises like Tron or other comic book movies, but they are trying to mainstream them while trying to pretend they are catering to the comicbook fans.

Conversely, I felt a little betrayed when the SF event seemed to be catering only to the folks coming over from the Con. Except for being 5 feet closer to the stage, due to having my counterfeited Encom badge, I was just another body (Albeit one of the few to whom the jumper wasn't just "some dude" or who understood the significance of Mrs. Bradley being on the stage.).

To be fair, the key to ARG's is that they are viral marketing that you can enter at any point and they are supposed to be below the radar.

Does anyone know of any ARG's that are likely to have a presence at Comic Con this year? I've haven't played any for almost a year now and Comic Con usually has some good ones to jump into...

And just to throw my 2 cents in as far as the size and backlash from comic con - I've been going to the con for 16 years now (when it was still relatively small) and I love the fact that it's grown so much. There's so much to do there now and it's so much more than just a comic convention. I love finding new movies and TV shows that interest me - not to mention ARGs and all of the crazy marketing that goes on outside of the actual event. Maybe it's just me though.

with SDCC starting tonight, i thought i'd share some news. Disney will be in the Flynn's Arcade building again this year. Unfortunately its just a marval/disney thing. no Tron. probably worth stopping by though.

Considering Disney own's Marvel it's just a Disney thing now. Very Happy Apparently the predictions are we will soon see Marvel costumed characters in the park, they already sell Iron Man costumes in the park during Halloween.
