And yeah it seems the follow the owl thing was taken out.

Either way, my email is in. (And now http://www.pottermore.com/NOTHING hows up for me)

EDIT: http://i52.tinypic.com/5ogty0.jpg - playing with the levels a bit, I made a slightly brighter version of the image on nothing. I've only read books 1-6 and never watched the movies, so the imagery itself won't mean much to me.

Diagon Alley or Godric's Hollow. Doesn't seem to be Spinner's End.

Is it just me or does this kind of look like a view of Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley from under a cloak (perhaps Harry's invisibility cloak)?

I don't think it's Diagon Alley anymore now that I look at it again reminds me a lot of Godric's Hollow.

One way or another, I am thinking that the follow the owl clue is pointing to "The Restricted Section," as that is where it's nose winds up at the end of it's arc.

Can't be 100% since we can't be sure it's a solid clue...

Other owls noticed in the UI pics for the press are the one in the Platform 9 and some fraction or another, along with it's UI Owl having a 7 on it. The other 3 have 40 on it, except Gryfyndor's which doens't have a number next to it. I'm guessing that number signifies the number of notifications, since it looks like the Gryfyndor screenshot looks like a message center anyway.

Also there is of course the owl perched on a book.

Also doable by clicking on the Sony link. =p

http://www.sony.com/index.html?XID=O:PM_Landing_Page does lead to the pottermore with the owl. Course that just seems to want to lead to the page. Perhaps that is why it was taken out of the official.

http://cdn.www.sony.com/data/images/video.flv (Pulled from source)

Unsure.

Add: Since the link to the press page isn't readily available like it was, I'm surprised it didn't occur to me to dig it up sooner.

http://www.pottermore.com/en/press (And the youtube for press is full)

Oh man, definitely signing up for this.

The picture looks more like Hogsmeade to me than Diagon Alley or Godric's Hollow

I agree, Hogsmeade it looks like to me. I can't wait for more info. (:

So I pretty much follow every single video series there is. Just saying.

So I decided to go a little into over-analysis mode (as if we weren't already there) with the video and here is what I got so far. This may or may not be of any significance whatsoever at all, of course.

Book used for the entire video is the UK print of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (kid's cover).

The area it flips through at the beginning is in chapter 10, pages 126 (with a peek at the corner of 124 in the first frame(shows page number and part of the word McGonagall) over to Page 133 where the chapters change from Hallowe'en to Quidditch).

The next book section spins the book sideways overlooking pages 138/139 in Ch 11 Quidditch.

The next section, still sideways, the book is where the chapter changes from Quidditch (Ch 11) to The Mirror of Erised (Ch 12) on pg 142/143 and flips to page 144/145 (145 in the background and kinda blurry). The Pottermore gates arise from page 144 and the camera moves to 145 where grass grows and the trees that spell "You" arise (I thought it was 146 for the tree, but the text on the tree showing is from the next page, because it folded backward, not forward.)

The next pages (book is no longer sideways) where the spiders/trees/glasses/bush/sorting hat arise are Pg. 146/147(Ch 12)

The pages the Owl rises from are, you guessed it, Pg. 148/149

The pages the Owl shadow flies over "follow the owl" are 150/151.

Pottermore arises from a blank page in the back of the book.

To read the exact pages of the contents of the UK version... (Ed. Easier just to show.)

----will edit with rest of page info. want to post now =p---
126/127
128/129
130/131
132/133 - captures of the pages flipped through.

138/139 as it spins on its side

Maybe more to come...

While not relevant to the early opening contest, interesting. Also there is rumor that the contest will be some sort of scavenger hunt, based off of an old document. (Learned this going through HP fan boards). A quill hunt, so to speak.

Really seems like a stay tuned thing. Also it seems the relevance of the book being the first is that the first book is all that will be available at first.

Should be interesting.

Just an update... on the youtube page after the video has finished playing, a shadow of an owl flies across the screen.. if you click it, it takes you to the pottermore webpage, where you can enter your email. I think that might be the only significance to following the owl.. especially because, whenever she talks about following the owl, she is talking about signing up early, which is what the email sign up is for.

Sorry, guys but i don't think there is much depth behind this one.

I've read that too, but I already figure on little depth since it's just an early sign up, which makes it barely unfiction, lol. But we work angles here, and it does sound like there will be a challenge involved in the pre release. I think may be a clue here as to what is involved in the challenge itself. Beyond that, I think you are right. One way or another, I will be alongside the many crashing the site on the 31st... at... whatever time they consider the 31st... GMT, maybe?

And not many people are bouncing ideas off of me anyway, lol. I'm mostly putting this out there so people have it on their minds when the time comes just in case.

Interesting Indeed! Jo has been known for using her books to reach hidden items.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
On her website http://www.jkrowling.com/ by entering in the numbers used by Mr. Weasley in the 5th Book at the bottom of page 125 (62442) into the phone on the upper left hand corner you get neat look at some early writings of the first book.
