Really seems like a stay tuned thing. Also it seems the relevance of the book being the first is that the first book is all that will be available at first.

Should be interesting.

Interesting Indeed! Jo has been known for using her books to reach hidden items.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
On her website http://www.jkrowling.com/ by entering in the numbers used by Mr. Weasley in the 5th Book at the bottom of page 125 (62442) into the phone on the upper left hand corner you get neat look at some early writings of the first book.

Seeing that website just makes me all the more certain that there will be something to this. Not something big (speaking in terms of scope of the things here) but definitely a challenge.

Well, apparently there is a rumor going around tumblr that some people already have the Hogwarts Express on their screen waiting for them. As far as time zones go, the UK is already in July 31st, so it could be legit. I'm waiting on the Pottermore page patiently hoping something will happen. It keeps giving me a support message about the overwhelming load, so I'm not the only one trying.

The site has finally updated, but I'm still getting the magenta "site unavailable" message at least half the time.

Quote:
7 books, 7 days, 7 chances
Those of you who would like the chance to gain early access to Pottermore must find The Magical Quill, and then submit your registration details. Each day, from 31 July to 6 August, a clue will be revealed here. Solve the clue and you will be taken to The Magical Quill. Be quick, The Magical Quill won't be there for long and registration will only be open while spaces are still available each day.
Quote:
What is The Magical Quill?

The Magical Quill detects the birth of magical children and writes their name down in a large book. To find out if your name is in the book, you need to find The Magical Quill and then submit your registration details on Pottermore.

Looks like there is going to be a new puzzle trail every day for the next week which will lead to the registration page. link
Quote:
Each day for seven days, from 31 July to 6 August, we will be placing a clue on the Pottermore homepage to help you find The Magical Quill. There will be a new clue every day, and each clue will relate to a different book in the Harry Potter series. On Day 1 the clue will relate to HARRY POTTER and the Philosopher's Stone, on Day 2 the clue will relate to HARRY POTTER and the Chamber of Secrets, and so forth. The clues will also vary in difficulty. On Days 1-3 the clues will be harder, and on Days 4-7 the clues will be easier.

To find The Magical Quill, you need to solve the clue and add the answer to the end of the web address http://quill.pottermore.com This will lead you to a website where The Magical Quill will be located while early access places are available.

Example:

Clue: How many books are there in the Harry Potter series? Multiply this number by 10.

Answer: 70

Next, add this number to the end of the website address. In this case it would be http://quill.pottermore.com/70

Then hit 'Return' to go to the website where The Magical Quill is located.

I'm waiting for my e-mail. It's absolute torture. But, my friend got hers and apparently that only a million people will be allowed to join the site. Idk how they're picking the "lucky million" but my advice is to sign up as fast as humanly possible.

Damn, this is stupid. I live in Montreal and there's no way in hell I can get any of the clues considering what time they come up at. It'd be like 3-4 in the morning. Hopefully, she does them at different times so that everyone around the world has a shot. It'd only be fair...

Well, each day is a question on the next consecutive book. So tonight's will be on The Chamber of Secrets, then the Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Half-Blood Prince, and then Deathly Hollows respectively. So, I suggest if you didn't get it yesterday, skim through book 2 today since it's the second shortest read for refresher. =p

For a summary of what went down last night, if anyone's curious...

Apparently attendees of Leakycon got an email sometime yesterday/last night that gave them a "head start" of sorts. A jpeg made rounds in chat rooms and comment sections, and since it would no longer be spoiling anything, I think I can safely link it here. So, going by that information, Potterheads camped out on the website starting around 8 am BST/3 am EST/12 am PST. Much waiting was had since nothing was put up right away (as per the hint, which stated "sometime after"). The clue (which was so kindly provided by starfire above) was posted nearly an hour later (somewhere between X:50 - X:55 am, depending on the time zone).

By the by, it's worth noting that the leaked hint mentions going to Diagon Alley. You didn't have to navigate to pottermore.com/diagonalley, as some had predicted. Rather, the clue referenced Chapter Five of the first book, which is literally titled "Diagon Alley."

What Happens At quill.pottermore.com
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Attaching the answer to the end of the quill.pottermore.com address sends you to a series of new pages, including some fill-out-your-information stuff and a short "game" where feathers drift by and you have to click on the Magical Quill. It's kind of awesome to get to the screen of The Big Book Of Wizards and see your name listed with characters from the books! You also get to choose a screen name from a predetermined list. As examples from my own list, expect something along the lines of "FeatherBolt" or "HeartHex" followed by a couple random numbers.

I managed to get mine in within ten minutes of the clue going up. If you get in there fast you can get your email almost right away. XD
