Just noticed something while discussing Jay's lack of reaction to getting the camera back in #42.

At the end of #42, we have Jay's dull surprise at finding the camera back in his car. Alex asks what is on it, Jay says that the battery is dead.

At the beginning of #43, his camera is obviously working again and has presumably been working all night (pointed at the door for security). So, this means that either he recharged or replaced the batteries prior to the events of #43, and with enough time to be confident that it would work to record his room overnight.

Which means that he should have had plenty of time to go back through the video tape. I say "should" because we know Jay and how he do. I'm guessing he was too scared/spooked to go through it right then, since neither Alex or Jay mentions Blasky or that they reviewed the video of the Operator and Blasky's walk back.

We should keep this in mind when looking at Jay and Alex's interactions following Jay being dropped off at the hotel. When will past-Jay discover Blasky/TTA?

Possible totheark suspects, as I see it:

5. Jay, part II. This is actually my favorite theory thus far. Jay himself is totheark, and he doesn't even know it. In other words, take the above Shadow Alex theory and apply it to Jay. This explains why TTA knows things about Jay that in all reality even Alex would have had a hard time witnessing if he were spying on Jay. Shadow Jay (probably) has access to all of normal Jay's memories (but not vice-versa) as well as all of his stuff. This also fits in line with the fact that Jay is losing large chunks of time and evidently doing stuff with that time unwittingly. Shadow Jay leaves the totheark videos as an attempt to communicate with his normal self. However, it's quite likely that if Jay ever became aware of Shadow Jay, that the latter would cease to be (being sort-of "assimilated" back into waking-Jay's mind) and thus, out of self-preservation, is carefully disguising his own nature.

Can I just point out that in one of totheark's videos "Exit" we see Jay far away. If Jay is totheark how did he film himself? If you watch the video you'll see the camera moves and even zooms in. This to me is proof enough that Jay was never and will never be a suspect for totheark.

TTA identity discussion goes in its appropriate thread.

Has time travel been proven wrong as a theory in the marble hornets series?

No, but the credibility of the idea would depend on where and in what way you think it works itself into the series.

It hasn't been ruled out, and we may have even witnessed it in Entry 23. However, as a driving force to the overall plot, I find it unlikely. We haven't seen any other indications that any sort of time travel has occurred, and Entry 23 can be explained by memory loss that coincides with Jay's video camera somehow being disabled.

This would give the appearance (both to us as viewers and to Jay during the scene) that it was "suddenly" nighttime, even though it's possible that something happened to disable the camera (perhaps our tall friend's work). Jay's noted that he seems to remember nothing from his encounters except for what he's caught on tape, so if the camera goes out, his memory goes with it. The camera comes back on, he starts being able to remember again--but the last thing he remembers is during the daytime, right before the camera cut out.

TL;DR: I don't think time travel is a part of this story. That said, no, it has not been explicitly ruled out and remains a possibility.

The way I see it, the only significance held by the time travel and teleportation is that Slenderman can really fuck with people if he feels like it.

If he's got any sense, he'll plug the camera in to the mains overnight.
You're also assuming he's woken up by the phone ringing, but it's possible he's been up for a while and is just sat chilling when he gets the call.

You're right, he should have had time to go back over the tape, but we obviously can't see him doing that - not if it's done on the same camera.
And remember: Everything we're watching now is pre-recorded; we're seeing it now as Jay goes through it. If he hasn't found any footage of himself discovering the Blasky, we won't see any either.

Given the month and a half we had to wait for J to post less than ten minutes off one tape over the course of three entries (39-41), I'd be surprised if he reviewed his camera at all earlier than Entry #63.

It could also be that, with the battery dead, he has no way to review the tape from a hotel room. It's not a digital camera like Alex's chest cam, it's an older mini tape rig, meaning unless the room has a VCR, (Unlikely) and he has an adapter for the tape to fit, the only way he can review the tapes (at the time of the filming) is to let the camera recharge and hook it up to the TV, (If he can, some hotels have the things bolted into the stands and you can't get to the wires) unless the laptop in the hotel room has the plugs for it.

Considering the day jay had, expecting him to go rooting though his footage right away is a bit much. He's been a less then gung-ho Mystery Inc. member so far.

Still say Alex was "Called" to the woods though. Like how when Jay left his room and disappeared for three hours, Alex probably went home and crashed with the chest cam still on, and "got the call" as it were.

All the cameras in this series are digital. The DV in "DV tape" stands for "digital video". That's why if you unravel DV tape you'll just see black on the tape, since it has digital information on it and not actual images like a film strip.

But really, DV tape or not, camcorders always have LCD screen(s) for video playback. Even my old VHS cameras rewind and playback footage if you just look into the viewfinder. I think we just happened to not hear about the tape yet for the sake of pacing. To think that J wouldn't look at the footage right away strains my suspension of disbelief pretty badly, even with the other retarded things he does.

He wouldn't be able to upload footage without a Firewire port or something similar, at the very least.

This would make a lot of sense, but the footage starts with Alex having the chestcam OFF and staring into the distance to contemplate something. Doesn't seem like something the Operator would make him do. He looks like he's genuinely thinking about something.

Challenge accepted.

Just because the tape stores information digitally does not REALLY make it a digital camera. Much as I hate to reference wikipedia on this, the wiki for digital cameras states that their images are stored on flash memory, not tape.

EDIT: For clarification/grammar.
