I assume the cameras that the MH crew use can't playback on their inbuilt screen and record at the same time. Perhaps Jay just thought uninterupted surveillance was more important at that particular point.

Though, he must have realised that someone brought it back. Perhaps he's so used to being followed everywhere, he just though "oh, another masked stalker. Same old." So we don't see much of a reaction...

After some thought, I think Jay is just shellshocked from having his face fulla slendy - so he's probably not too eager to check out the tape. He's probably more interested in getting to the hotel and climbing under the covers where the Operator can't get him. And, you know, probably checking out some pr0n but whatever.

Does Jay skipping looking at the tape, even after the camera is operational, make sense from a logical, self-preservation viewpoint? Hell no, but Jay's that kind of guy. He's going to just assume he'll "get to it later". Plus, I think he's going to get very distracted soon by a Slendyminion Alex into going on a nice nature trail hike (Entry 3-eight) {stupid emoticons}.

You know I could actually see this happening, once they view the tape. Such as:

JAY: *Watching video*
ALEX: So...how did the camera get back in the car?
JAY: Um. Some guy in a mask brought it back.
ALEX: You mean Tim?
JAY: No..someone else.
ALEX: So you have two masked stalkers.
JAY: Um. Yeah.
ALEX: Great.
JAY: . . .
JAY: Yeah, so. . . . Do you want to get some Arby's?
*JAY totally forgets that he should be concerned about Blasky.*

All the cameras in this series are digital. The DV in "DV tape" stands for "digital video". That's why if you unravel DV tape you'll just see black on the tape, since it has digital information on it and not actual images like a film strip.

But really, DV tape or not, camcorders always have LCD screen(s) for video playback. Even my old VHS cameras rewind and playback footage if you just look into the viewfinder. I think we just happened to not hear about the tape yet for the sake of pacing. To think that J wouldn't look at the footage right away strains my suspension of disbelief pretty badly, even with the other retarded things he does.

Yes, because the screens on the tape-deck using cams weren't terrible at all. Rolling Eyes If you were going to review the tapes, you'd do it on an actual screen, not hunched over a tiny LCD in the middle of the woods you just ran out of, to get away from a giant faceless dude with good taste in suits.

He wouldn't be able to upload footage without a Firewire port or something similar, at the very least.

I imagine he's not in the same area, but point taken.

BranRainey wrote:

This would make a lot of sense, but the footage starts with Alex having the chestcam OFF and staring into the distance to contemplate something. Doesn't seem like something the Operator would make him do. He looks like he's genuinely thinking about something.

Of course, we don't know *when* alex got called. the entire time we see him in the woods he's very zombie-ish. arms flopping this way and that. Maybe he's trying to fight off becoming a Masky, and failing?

I can really, really see this happening.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I bet, instead of KFC, they have an ARK: Alabama Roasted Kralie. TTA just wants a bucket full of wings.

He may not have done it outside the Woods of Slendy Doom right away, but if he's got the sense to be curious about what's on the tape, I seriously doubt he'd be too bothered about finding a top-quality screen to do it on. That may be good for deep analysis, but even the worst of those old LCD- and viewfinder screens is perfectly adequate for basic playback.

Jay+sense=oxymoron Laughing

That being said--I agree with your argument that for an initial, cursory view-a viewfinder screen would be adequate.

I did ask Jay whether or not he and Alex ever reviewed that footage...

So basically this whole exchange is canon now.

The only problem with that is asking Present-Jay what Past-Jay did is meaningless since he doesn't remember what he did during the 7 month vacation. Present-Jay doesn't know any more than what we do now. Sad

It could be on the film, since they both are well known for recording themselves 24/7. Since Jay was obviously going through some of the files, he could have come across it... but my guess is that they haven't.

This was my line of thinking, but no joy. Rolling Eyes

Challenge accepted.

Just because the tape stores information digitally does not REALLY make it a digital camera. Much as I hate to reference wikipedia on this, the wiki for digital cameras states that their images are stored on flash memory, not tape.

I just checked Wikipedia and it absolutely agrees with me. I don't what you're misreading from the article, but:

A digital camera (or digicam) is a camera that takes video or still photographs, or both, digitally by recording images via an electronic image sensor. -the very first line on the Wikipedia page

If there's another part of the page that says something about flash media being part of the definition, it's simply wrong. To be a digital camera, the camera has to record the video in a digital recording medium such as DV tape. Flash memory is also a digital recording medium. Both cameras record images as 1s and 0s instead of film. There's nothing else to the definition. Just because cameras that record to DV tape can't take still photos doesn't mean they aren't digital cameras (note the or both in the Wikipedia definition).

I don't know why we keep using abstract cameras as examples. We know what Jay's camera looks like, and it has a huge, bright LCD screen from 2010. More than adequate.

Okay, going off of the new TTA video, and this thread's mention of a noise or voice or something that happens during Alex's Slendysickness - can we get a spectrogram look at all of that noise during that timeframe?

There you go. Not too much special that I can see... but that was for the entire video.

I had a thought.

The key that Jay found in his bag when he woke up in the hotel.

Do you think it goes to Jessica/Amy's house?
