Looks like time is almost up. Apparently we have completed 'love and fame' along with the 'first verse'.

All that remains is 'waiteth for no man'.

Has anyone called that number yet? Would it even work?

The phone number is coded to call from the UK, not sure how this is relevant. Tried ringing it but it's 'number not recognised'.

Forest has just tweeted a fair few times and uploaded videos and images, I also received a "lottery ticket" by email today:

The white line by #5 is my cursor, the other white line is on the ticket.

I got three tickets.

Also, as Forest requested, here is the link to A.L.

Edit: The speech from the boat trip comes from the movie, Morte a Venezia.

YT posted a video of a canal tour. I made a map of where he goes.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=210188358316070940622.0004a7e9bc3038064b403

omg omg omg omg.

YT's latest flickr post includes something very near and dear to my heart, the IPA chart of vowels. Unfortunately, the holes he has punched do not quite make sense to me in terms of my first idea, which is that he wanted whatever would ordinarily be under the holes. But things are on the wrong sides of lines.

Anyway, here's an IPA chart.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f5/IPA_chart_2005_png.svg

What would ordinarily be at the point he's drawn there is near open central vowel, also called 'an upside down a'.

These could be meant to represent the vowels of Italian. However, if that's so, then these vowels are misplaced on the vowel chart. Relative to one another, they're correct, but in IPA, they would be in the wrong places.

The letters 'Marunbilaborun' are written at the bottom. This could almost be 'bilabial', another way of talking about consonants p, b, and m, but I can't quite make that stick.

The reference to gambling could mean that YT went to the Casino Venezia, which is plausibly in the path I projected on my map.

I'm not sure about all of the vowels, but the 'Marundiladorun' is actually a number. 85.

Yep, I got that too, since we are looking for odds/numbers.

It's not the IPA chart.

But what does that mean? I am left wondering who the guy at the back is...

Not to be uber pedantic, but technically speaking, it's still an IPA chart, just not the IPA chart. ;)

Good catch though. I wonder if it's supposed to be hint at the Yoruba number on the bottom. I'm not sure what else it could be unless he wants us to count the number of phonemes in Yoruba, in which case I'm liable to become even more pedantic!

I couldn't find the guy yesterday either.

Huh. I am clearly not a linguist, since I'm still confused as to what an IPA chart is. I'll look it up later.

Confused

If it comes to that... go ahead.

And I thought we were looking for a number! Very Happy

Looks like I received the same postcard.

I also received another lottery ticket for correctly guessing where Forest was heading to on the boat. The Venice Casino on the Lido di Venezia. Looking back through the thread it looks like Ofiuco guessed this a while before I did but didn't email Forest with her answer?

EDIT, here is his reply:
"Dear String

So you listened to the music of the video as well then - good Mann...

The Casino in Lido is closed at the moment though - but we did indeed go to Lido. So your lottery ticket is enclosed. Are you seeing any pattern yet? You can, to others, share your ideas first of course.
Can you explain why we went to Lido of all places though - Father is being vague, but says it is important - perhaps you and your friends could look into the place for us? We're busy at the moment writing our postcard...

Forest
"

Having trouble associating anything other than the letter epsilon with a number from the IPA chart. Trying to find whose face that is... looks like the portrait of 10,000 well to do 18th century gentlemen!

Double Post Shocker

The sample in the Venice boat video is:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Death in Venice, Luchino Visconti. (nouvel by Thomas Mann)

http://www.scribd.com/doc/985179/Death-in-Venice

Also hinted at in the email I posted above.

New video up re the numbers which may help whoever is working on that. I don't understand what is going on with that.

http://www.youtube.com/user/WhiteRabbitYT#p/u/0/U8S70bIXPbg

I'm still reading through the wikis on the various names attached to the numbers which I guess is probably not important.
