[SOLVED - CONFIRMED] Paintover Binary Filenames

Fresh thread, fresh ideas?

(Continued from http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2645&start=219)

Omnie wrote:
The new binary filename for the stairs pic is 15. So we have 1 4 9 25 15...

If 25 weren't there, I'd put money on the next one being 22...ah well. It looks like they're playing with prime multiplication...maybe 2*3=6 as a next one? Doesn't exist yet, anyway...we're missing something here...

... and elsewhere ...

There are numerous maths sequences that "almost-fit" with the series of numbers we have so far. I wondered if the probem is that we're looking for patterns in the decimal versions of the binary numbers, rather than the binary originals.

Anyway, Here's a summary so far (Including Decimal and Hexadecimal equivalents).
Code:

Date       Filename      DEC   HEX    Title

Oct 01    00000001.jpg     1    01    eye see
Oct 05    00000100.jpg     4    04    et tu?
Oct 09    00001001.jpg     9    09    Grabbing Internet Files, a primer
Oct 11    00001111.jpg    15    0F    sasquatch
Oct 16    00000011.jpg     3    03    whomp

Oct 25    00011010.jpg    26    1A    OH LOOK A MYSTERIOUS IMAGE
Nov 06    00001000.jpg     8    08    agenda

Oct 09    00011001.jpg    25    19    Oh, and BTW...

Oct 09    00001001.gif     9    09    (none, Hidden File)

28 October - Possible Solution? as started HERE
Code:
DATE     DEC +64 ASCII  ROT5
Oct 01     1  65   A      F
Oct 05     4  68   D      I
Oct 09     9  73   I      N
Oct 09    25  89   Y      D
Oct 11    15  79   O      T
Oct 16     3  67   C      H
Oct 25    26  90   Z      E
Nov 06     8  72   H      M
based on this theory, the answer so far is: F I N D T H E M

Nybble Theory
If the 25 is throwing out the sequence, see what you can do without it.

The two pictures which appeared on the 9th have identical binary except for one bit (00011001).

If we only consider the right hand 4 bits, what in computer terms is the "least significant nybble" (I kid you not, half a byte is a nybble) the 25 is not required for the sequence.

Look at it another way, in the hex column, we only deal with the right hand digit. Now Omnies theory could possibly fit.

Edit: Typo, thanks Yanka
Edit: Added October 16 Picture (and smug look regarding Nybbles Very Happy )
Edit: Added Thumbnailed Links to Originals
Edit: Added Oct 25 - Scratch Post in different location, so can this be excluded from the "caesar" sequence?
Edit: Added Oct 29 - Possible Solution Table.
Edit: Added Nov 06 Picture (thumbnail to follow)
Edit: The PM's have confirmed this as correctly solved

Marl, I think there is a typo in your sequence (last file, the gif).

What if we look at it yet another way, in chronological order?

1 = Oct. 1
4 = Oct. 5
9 = Oct. 9
9 = Oct. 9
25 = Oct. 9
15 = Oct. 11

First date (1st) + 2nd file (4) = 2nd date (5). This is already a stretch, but 2nd date (5th) + 2nd file (4) = 3rd date (9). And then it completely breaks... Sad

Or the differences in dates: 4, 4, 0, 0, 2
compared to
the differences in files: 3, 5, 0, 16, 10??

Oh well, still nothing Sad

Thanks for that Embarassed

I kept the two files at the bottom seperate. I figure that since they we extras included with one of the other pics, they could be left out of the sequence.

Giving a final list of 1, 4, 9, 15

Edit: One downside of my "Nybble" theory is that any further picture values have to be less than 16 Rolling Eyes

Marl,
I think about a week ago (or at least it seems like it, lol) I tried everything in order, 1-20. So I guess they release things on a schedule, and we won't be able to retrieve anything anyway.

In which case, the file "names" (=numbers) wouldn't do us any good - they just won't be there until it's time. So the sequence might be pointing to something else entirely, and in that case, your "nybble" theory is as good as "byte" theory.

Have no idea what that they might relate to, though...

Odd idea

Could it be that, once they have put all the pictures online we could get some kind of text by putting all their names one after the other in order of appearence? I'm not used to writing in binary, so sorry if this is nonsense...

Grabbing Internet Files, a primer (for) sasquatch ?

I just studied some dictionaries and found out, that primer also can mean something like "easy instruction collection" (don't know how to explain the german word "Fibel")

now, it starts makein a sense. Let's write it this way:

"Grabbing Internet Files", a primer for sasquatch(es).

Makes more sense, eh?an easy instruction how to grab internet files... for beginners e.g.

It led us to the Gif version of the file...

Which was the first clue to the silvia files.

Whether there was actually enough here to get into those files is a topic for a different thread I think.

I'd tend to agree with Marl... the filenames have served their purpose, and we have other puzzles to content ourselves with now.

Back to Tarot and missing people... Very Happy

Oh and also, the filename is 00000011.jpg, or "3".

I'd like to see anyone make a fitting theory based on those filenames now Sad

Yes! Laughing

Someone else hinted in another thread (donīt remeber which one) that it should be read out loud: "I see it too" - hinting that whoever posts the images sees it (?) too...

Any clues to the identity of the poster?

Updated first post to include new file and added thumbnails for easy access to pics.

Caesar is the first identified "hacker" who has a 1 C on his image in carelessly.jpg and posted the file. I think 1 C is Eye See and how about James Avery as the character?
