I drove over to the address I had for him, and as I pulled up in front of the house I got the most eerie feeling. Something in my gut was screaming THERE'S SOMETHING NOT RIGHT HERE!! but I couldn't pinpoint it.

Who is the "him" he's talking about??? I've been wondering about that.

I kind of assumed he was talking about AQN, since he knows Neihoffer is the guy behind all of these other identities, and referring to "him" while talking about, say Wongmo or Leo Kane, might confuse Beth (as it now seems to be confusing us) as to who he is actually talking about. Hope that made sense.
I'm wondering why Gairden felt that there wasn't "something right here"; was he just referring to the fact that AQN picked up and disappeared? I would've thought that Gairden might've been expecting that (another assumption!).
And Out to Lunch you make an interesting point - in that AQN might maintain his past identities - which I can possibly see, since he is a greedy little @&^%$2$, but surely that leaves him open to being investigated by the police? And to have to move all of your stuff out of your house, and then move it all back in again, just to avoid being seen by a guy who edits a paranormal journal? That's a little excessive.
I'm still wondering how a con artist fits into the larger plot of this game...

I'm not sure we should take too much inference in the translation of Wongmo's new identity, other than it was the same name used by M. Caine's character in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

I think of it more as that he's so arrogant he thinks he can pick a name that's clearly associated with con artistry and still manage to fleece his flock.

Thanks I thought I was the only one that caught that! One funny thing I found under a Google search for Dr. Emile Schuffhausen a link to some kind of medical application it listed him at a Hawaii address. That can't just be a coincidence.

JayR, can you post a link or a summary of this medical application? Even give us the Hawaiian address? Might be out-of-game, but these days you never know!

I did yesterday when I first found it. It's in the puzzles section. Anyway, here it is again. Go to page 10. It's a PDF file.

Sorry, JayR, I must've missed it amongst everything else Embarassed .
As regards page 10, I think its just a happy coincidence, out-of-game; heh, I wonder if the state of Hawaii department official who wrote that up has ever seen 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels'? Laughing

Wongmo and Leo Kane also claim to be from Hawaii. Just seems odd out of 50 states they chose Hawaii, while whomever put that dummy application up for the State of Hawaii happened to pick that name to use on it??

It is strange, certainly, but unless you want to hop on over to Hawaii (and who wouldn't? Wink ) and check the address out, I don't see there being much we can do about it; and no, I'm not go to check through all 30 pages of that PDF file looking for clues! Wink

Yes I suppose you're right. Although Hawaii wouldn't be a bad place to be right now!

[Wild Wild Spec]

Phillip either kills Wongmo, or finds him dead...disposes his body

Then takes over the wongmo persona as Dr Shuffhausen (how much money can an academic/archelogist make anyway) to be able to rake in the $$$ and live the good life (buy beth nice gifts)...

that is why the Dr Shuffhausen site is "less polished"

if you were going to vanish, leave no trace...why leave a clue to the one person who is pursuing you? Why leave the bird.jpg...an oversight...no way...the person who is emerging from the ashes as the phoenix is Phillip
