wait, so the time I spent for the enigma code was.....

Neutral oh well... I'll just wait for what will happen next! Looks interesting from here and further.

EDIT: Do we still need to tell him about the password?

I followed this for a few days, never done a thing besides watching you guy break those codes, you are amazing!! Anyway, I think Dan should know about the L7 password, he mentioned that his user/password did not work, and that level 7 was the highest password. Yes Lainsy was already reset, but It is not for certain that she wasn't tampered with, or if the original passwords were restored.

On a sidenote, I left the home page loaded on my computer, still on lockdown, and left it for a couple of hours and when I returned to my computer the page was already restored, this game sure moves fast!

Wow! I leave for part of the day and the game (or, this part of it, at least) actually ends! Wow!

Anyway, if everyone's in favor, I'll email Dan saying that we cracked that code. I must say that I doubt this was the default login. Genus must have changed it.

Now that it's over, I wonder what he'll say...

OOG email received

Code:
Greetings!

Thank you for participating in the first episode of the FAILTECH ARG
series, and congratulations in getting so far from what we have
previously planned (or rather, NOT planned)! The team was very happy
with how everything went and how the story has developed. You are
receiving this email as you have been in contact with our Dan Miller
character. It's been a fun, thrilling, and suspenseful 5 or 6 days.

For reference, a mirror image of the Episode 1 website is accessible via
http://e1.failtechnologies.com and will function exactly the same way as
it was if it were in the original URL (failtechnologies.com; if you find
any broken links or bugs, feel free to shoot us an email) except that it
now starts with e1 instead of just the base URL.

Also, to further improve this series, we would be happy to hear some
feedback, suggestions, or concerns that you may have. Feel free to reply
and tell us what you think.

We don't have a definitive date for the next episode, but I'm sure it
will be a surprise. What will happen next is surely open for
speculations and theories. Dan Miller will contact you once he will need
your help.

Got an email from the pm. Sounds like this thing developed into more than they thought it would.

I think we all need to keep the level 7 Password somewhere as it may be needed later. And great job on the enigma Zeighy! We were all so close! I'm just glad somebody figured it out. See everybody in the next episode!

Edit: latentmoths beat me on the update, sorry for the repetition

Dan sent in a reply (he's the timeliest-to-reply ARG character I've ever seen):

Quote:
Honestly, that is NOT the default password, in fact that's not even the default username. This seems disturbing and rather a threat to us. We will look onto this and further investigate this.

So far LAINSY was busy consolidating her self to one location. Remember me telling you that LAINSY is a distributed network AI? Well, as of now, she has consolidated her data into the Antarctica Facility mainframe. She's still busy restoring systems and security, so we're still not interrupting her to ask questions and to restore her data back into the other facilities. She seems to be back and can be commanded so we can say she's pretty much back to normal, except for that part where she's not "distributed".

As soon as she finishes her tasks, we can then start investigating this case and see the scope of what has happened. Until then, we hope you all relax, take a deep breath and lie life normally. Remember, whatever happened down here never happened. Or else, we may need to take actions. Just keep quiet and everything should be fine. We don't want a rumor to come out and cause panic to the public.

Okay, since we've recieved an OOG email, I would like someone to ask them if this is just for fun, or if they're promoting something.

Good job on the cipher. I was at work when I realized what Dan really meant with the hint he gave me. He focused on the spreckers a bit more than usual.

Maybe we should archive this as FAILTECH Ep1. And then when Ep2 comes around, start a fresh new thread?

Seriously guys, loved this short burst of fun. I loved cleaning up Morse for you guys too Razz

I'm adding this for future reference for anyone who is interested in decoding enigma coded messages. Kind of a "how-to" for how to decode the message we got.

First off, this seemed to be the only online enigma decode program that worked on this message, at least for me (maybe I just don't know how to set up the other ones properly). This one was at least the easiest to use.
http://www.enigmaco.de/enigma/enigma.swf

Directions:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1. Select the rotors (the top 3 letter circles). Each rotor is labeled by a bright blue Roman numeral in the middle. To change the rotors, click on the top yellow icon on the right side of the app, which will open up a bunch of type selections (I-V) for each rotor. In this case, I, II, V. Press the icon again to collapse the rotor selection view.

2. Set the starting position -- Move the rotors using the <and> buttons located next to each rotor. Set it up so the rotors' bright blue boxes spells out DON.

3. Set up the Steckers (list of letters, looks like vaguely like a DJ mixer board). This is probably tricky because if you mess up you will have to reset and setup everything again. But basically you take the little blue box from one letter and drag it to the letter you want to connect it with. AF CH ET IL

4. Confirm the settings by pressing on the yellow key icon on the right side of the app. Collapse the view by pressing on the key icon again. If you need to reset, press the yellow wrench icon and do everything all over again.

5. Copy/paste or type the encoded message in the Input field. NGOBGGXRYUIASWMSDCGDKICMKUYBWEMJMZCNJECPWXVX

Note: I noticed in this case that AAA didn't come into the picture at all in setting up this app to decode the message, so I don't really know what the AAA was all about anyway.

I hope that helps people out in the future!

I used this program: http://users.telenet.be/d.rijmenants/en/enigmasim.htm

It has several different kinds of enigma machines, which may just be for the enthusiast at this point. It has a pdf file built into that explains some common methods of encoding and decoding, which did not include the method used to solve our own message. Balls.

Edit--I've stopped watching this thread, so... until a new email!
