[ABANDONED BLOG] ORIGIN OF SIMULATION
has this already been mentioned?

Not sure if it's already been mentioned at all.
Anyways, I got an email earlier with a link to a tumblr account. All the email said was:

"He's found us. He's looking for us. He's seen us.

Keep your head down.

http://simulati0n.tumblr.com/post/2595739725/first-of-many

xox"

I know a few others have had the email too. I read a few of the posts and slendy is in there.

Yeah, somebody linked it in Angora chat. I like it so far. I don't know enough about psychology to be sure if the author is spewing BS, but it sounds good enough to me.
It's odd that they'd send an email like that when the main character is still uninformed. I guess IG the email was sent by the victim's friends, who magically found the blog of the police psychologist connected to the murders. Seems a bit of a stretch.

I was gonna say the email had a different name to the character's. It seems ok so far and from what I know the psychology part seems right so far.

IMO the psychology feels a bit off, but that's because my psychologist friends are of the "it's not a science, it's applied philosophy!" bent, and a forensic psychologist would be of the opinion that it is a science. It's actually more of a contentious debate within the field than a lot of people realize. And I'm reasonably sure that a lot of the patient/client information that comes out, especially about the detective he's working with, is at the very least flirting with ethical violations. I don't know, some of the psych stuff didn't quite ring true for me.

Note: let's please not turn this into a debate about psychology, I don't want to drag this completely off-topic. >.>

ANYWAY. I got this e-mail as well, obviously, and read through the blog posts. It's kinda interesting. I like the fact that the cops are investigating a Slenderkilling, and I am anticipating shit hitting the fan when those other two kids end up dead. The setup with the kids is a little bit like EMH, 'cept Slendy's getting his kill on fairly quickly.

tl;dr I'll probably keep an eye on this for now, see how it goes.

I just wanted to bump this thread because I really, really like this blog. It's pretty quickly become one of my favorites.

[sidebar: According to my boyfriend (who has some background in psych - the scientific kind, not the applied philosophy kind) the psychology in the comic is fairly accurate (in his words, "this is someone who's at least taken a few college courses").]

The writing is great, and I find the concept refreshingly unique. Hell, at this point I halfway expect for the villain ACTUALLY to be some kid playing Slendy, and for the Man himself not to show up at all. Which would be awesome.

I definitely needed another Slenderblog to follow. Razz Naw, I really like this one. It's a nice take on everything.

I look forward to seeing what comes of it. ^^

IF I HAVE TO READ ONE MORE GORN FIC.

But really, that last entry was really... Jesus. That was intense. I don't think I've read a blog that's made me squirm like that before.

Going to come right out: this is the best blog I read in ages. The one of the boy whose girlfriend broke off kinda just faded a bit into the obvious, but this is well written, interesting and cinematic stuff.

But what's more important: it takes the entire canon and works on that!! I have long waited for somebody to pick all these stories up and regard them as sort of a "living bible", and they seem to do that!! Kudos, and all the best, I'll be reading!

Well I'm following this one. So far it's very nice. Reminiscent of Seeking Truth, seeing as it is both cinematic and police-centered. I'm both hopeful that it will make something interesting from all the canon it chose to work with (and quite happy that Zeke is namechecked first) and apprehensive that it will mess it up. Not to disparage the talents of the PM, but Slenderlore is a nightmare welter of crisscrossing theories and mutually contradicting facts and events. It is surprisingly coherent for something that sprang full-formed from the Internet's collective subconsciousness, but nothing like something a single author would do.

A few points of nitpicky quibbling:

1. I'm not qualified to evaluate the quality of the psychology, as far as I can tell it sounds legitimate, however the style of writing is odd. It hovers in a weird void between clinical and personal that makes getting the voice of the character down somewhat difficult. This could be just me, though.

2. The author is a TvTropes reader. He namedrops several tropes without, as far as I can tell, realizing it. I could be wrong, of course, but Cosmic Horror and Eldritch Abomination in relatively close proximity seems like a giveaway. Say it with me, folks: TvTropes Will Ruin Your Vocabulary. WARNING: Link provided for humor purposes only. Clicking on it will eat your day, possibly your whole life. Anyway, reading TvTropes clashes, a bit, with the highly professional persona the blog tries to project.

3. A pet peeve, here, but I am really annoyed by the trope of assigning advanced degrees by the bushel in fictional works. Especially when it is given to characters who are far to young to have earned them without some form of magic being employed.

@Anonymousity

Thanks for pointing me here from the EMH thread. I'd never have found this otherwise.

I'm a huge fan. And as mentioned, my psych major beau is crazy about it. But that just might be because he trashes Freud at one point.

As for the advanced degree, I don't remember his full deal- but if he's in is late twenties- I think he said 27- thats more than enough time for a Psych PhD. Its a 5 year grad program(?) I think, and that would include the Masters. Did I mention I'm dating a psych major?

@re: degrees

It's pointless to belabor the point, it doesn't really impact the quality of the blog. He could have gotten a PhD by age 27, though I believe that the median age in the USA is something like 29. No problem. Our man Rivers is a smart cookie. Smile

I wasn't referring to our narrator, though. I was peeved about Dr. Aspen who has three PhDs in somewhat disparate fields. The level of effort required to obtain these qualifications is nigh-superhuman. Further, PhDs are research qualifications. To earn your scientist's spurs thrice over and than go work for a forensics department[1], seems a waste of talent. Even if Dr. Aspen is dead-set to do forensics, shouldn't she be teaching it at this point?

Anyway. Rant over. I shan't bring it up again. It was childish of me in the first place.

@re: ontopic!

I've been unable to place the symbol in the post before the last. Any ideas? It looks, to me, as stylized lightning striking the ground. That or a resistor attached to an AND gate (at a place where there's no terminal, even). The first is generic. The second is insane.

[1] Which, CSI notwithstanding, is not a glamorous job, and doesn't require three PhD's worth of smart to do.

It does look familiar, like it could be some company's logo or something. But I can't think of where I might have seen it. The squiggly bit looks like some sort of wave, but that doesn't really narrow it down.

I spent time I didn't actually have and googled for the image like mad. Nothing like it appears anywhere when you google slenderesque terms. I also tried various sketch-search services. Nada. I tried Google Goggles on my Android. Double nada with cheese.

Then I got to thinking about the image, based on first principles. Am I just being nuts, or does the image look kind of like a schematic of "twisted tree"? The semicircular portion is the bough and what I thought was the resistor is the tree-trunk. Far-fetched it may be, but I don't see any other ideas. And trees are very important in this iteration of the Mythos. Is this a...worship area perhaps?

D'you guys think I should drop him a line about this? Since he has put it to us to deduce. Can't hurt.

Do it. Ask why Dr Aspen isn't teaching while you're at it. (Who knows, maybe the three degrees thing is meant to be a hint that Dr Aspen is actually a big phony...)
