To me it either what Strontium said "a means of communication/summoning" or possibly a warning, that he has been seen in the area. Maybe in the future we'll see some Operator warning signs by forests.

Like a tag of some sorts.

Maybe Slenderman's an inner city hoodlum

I just had an image of El Hombre Alto wearing a baseball cap backwards, with his suit pants being held up by one of his incredibly long arms, and his head cocked to the side.

West Side Story! Starring Slendy as Riff, Alex as Tony, Jay as Maria and TiMasky as Bernardo

"In west philadelphia, born and raised-
stalking kids is how I spent most of my days
lurking and creeping and maxin out cool-
and removing some organs up by the school"

"When a couple of proxies-
they were up to no good
started makin' trouble in my neighborhood.
I made one go crazy and my mom got scared-
she said 'you're going to go live with your aunt and uncle in ark-air".

Very good job!
Now I want to see The Operator as Mr. Feeny in Boy Meets World, because Feeny was always around!

Or, Slender and Masky's Excellent Adventure! They knew how to get around, because they could travel through time and space!

Man, we are like a spin-off creating machine!

early in the seires i thought it was a warning, then i thought it was a deterrent, now I think it's nothing more than a representation of 0 himself, and in a more meta-sense a sort of logo for the series.

Why must you call the operator, "0?" seriously man, are 11 letters that hard to type? I'm typing this on my iPhone and I can write in full sentences/words. But either way about that, I agree with your views on the operator symbol.

Unfortunately, the operator symbol rotated 45 degrees is also a "white power" symbol. It might have been that.

Wow, definitely did not know that

Hey amrith777,

I didn't mean to insult you, or attack your beliefs or anything... I just meant to make an offhanded comment about the fact that I deal with those constants frequently, so they have no special place in my heart. I didn't think you believed they were literally supernatural or anything... I just get frustrated when people get awestruck at the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, for example. To me, it's no more amazing than the fact that the area of a square is equal to the square of one of its sides.

Also, I'm kind of anti-Pi. I believe that Tau (2*Pi) should be the constant of choice... but that's a different argument entirely.

So... yeah... in short, sorry.

It's all good yo...I feel you bro and know you meant no harm...The woman who gave birth to me just passed from this mortal coil PLUS I believe (correct or NOT) that math, and other things--like the Periodic Table of the Elements possess a certain elegance and meaning...I cannot think of anyone that could dispute that...I am NOT trying to be RIGHT--I am trying to make things MEAN...so please fogive me....

So--I am a VERY open minded woman...teach me TAU and I will know it's elegance and meaning...I have no internal tether....

You should watch the movie Pi. I think your head would explode with anger.

I HAVE watched PI...no anger...just questions....

I'm not a mathematician (next week i graduate as an engineer Very Happy ), but to me its arbitrary as to which to use. I personally like pi for tradition's sake. What are the pros of using tau vs pi other than implying a full circle over half-circle?

You know...I'm sorry for not getting back earlier...and congrats on your achievement!! That's AWESOME!! I respect several schools of thought if they can teach me--as evidenced by what I've already posted....you genius people have me in that I know next to nothing about certain things---but I DO know what I've read/studied about certain LAWS and how SOOOO many Nobel Prize winning physicists and mathematicians would've given up if not for some CAR-AZZZY shit going on....Marie Curie being one of them....

So about that operator symbol:
I've always thought about the phrase "Dial zero for Operator." From what I remember, every entry that has the symbol has the Operator (or at least the visual tear to indicate his presence). So the symbol could be used to summon him.

Ok...so here you go==Blahh DOWW!! This person is not using MATH per se,...but the way the PHONE company OPERATES....Not to mention (X) that they mentioned meant a child's death...Hmmmmmm.....arbitrary?Or do we go BEYOND into the collective UN conscious? The MORPHIC RESONANCE.....

Wait, on that last part is there a source? Because if so, then that pretty much confirms this Operator loves children as much as the old Slenderman mythos.

Not necessarily. He's still stalking Alex, and Alex is no longer a child.

Yes...but Alex was ONCE a CHILD--and as we've been shown...something definitely HAPPENED....

And the other way 'round - plenty of instances where we see the symbol but no sign of TO, or of any tear effect. See entry 8 (on Alex's sketches), entry 21, the paper with Jay's safe code on, plus lots of TTA videos. I think if the symbol summoned TO, we'd see him a lot more.

I think the symbol is more about communication. It could be as simple indication that there is some relation to TO, or as an indication that a particular person is involved in these events. For example, when we see the symbol scratched on the tower in entry 21, it could be there as a signal to Jay that he's come to the right place. Whoever left the tape (their idenitiy is different discussion!) knew Jay would recognise the symbol as relating to his investigations.

Equally, it makes sense that it might be used to communicate with yourself. In a series where memory loss is so prevalent, it makes sense that the smarter charaters might have a rudimentary system in place to mark locations or items that they might forget the significance of. Don't forget, the first occasion we see the symbol (IIRC) is amongst Alex's scribbled drawings. I hold firmly to the theory that these drawings were (as are the recent examples) Alex's frantic attempts to get record/recall information he is scared of forgetting. It's certainly plausible that he took to using the symbol to mark things for his own future reference. For instance, in the "bathouse" entry, we see Alex uncovering a symbol - it could be that he had encountered TO here already (or had some other reason to think it significant) and had left the mark as a message to himself, of sorts...

So...there ya go...Slender Man does was he's gonna fucking DO-- and fuck YOU,ME and all the ELEGANT equations cuz this mother fucker defies ALL systems and computations/equations of math and the time/space theorem....what's more horrifying than THAT????
