Does this bother anyone else?
There's a link to the MH dvd website on the MH Utube channel.

But I AM angry that on the Marble Hornets youtube page has a link to the marblehornets dvd website.

That KILLS the immersion. The DVD itself doesnt, and Im GLAD they made a DVD, but putting a link on the chanel just says "Fake." And JAy doesnt seem like the kind of person to d othat.
Does anyone ELSE agree with me?

I agree. Even without the link, they sold 1000 copies within two days. It just isn't necessary.

It bothers me too. No one even looks there anyway so it's really just a waste. Buuut, this doesn't really need a thread.

This is a good point, I hadn't even thought about this.

But while it depletes the point of the channel think of it from their perspective.

Whats gonna get the most DVD sales? Putting a link on their blog? On troyhasacamera? Or on the actual channel that people look at?

Clearly the MarbleHornets channel is the best channel for the most sales OOG. But in game, its kinda weird how J would have a DVD promoting his adventures.

I thought you were gonna say that it makes you mad that the link isn't his twitter anymore. I used to use his account as a convenient way to get to his twitter, but now I have to go to my favorites for it.

I definitely think you need to chill. The immersion is just the same for me, and you can't blame them for, oh ya know, trying to sell the product. As the guy a post or two back said, the channel page is where to do it. Just chill.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

Yes, they needed to put a link to the DVDs to indicate to people that it is infact, fake.

I really don't mind it. They DESERVE to sell as many of them as possible. They grinded on this for 38 entries and 2 years, to finally make money off of it is well deserved.

I also agree with this. Some people literally believe marble hornets is real or suspect it of being real. Its nearing the end of the series people should know by now its not real.

It doesn't bother me but now it seems to new viewers they might not know about the twitter. I don't really see anyone seeing the link and having some revelation that this is all fake.

Really, I'm all for respecting immersion, but I also feel there's immersion, and then there's obsession.

I have this crazy, insane piece of OOG information that perhaps a lot of you would do well to keep in mind.

Ready? Here it is.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Marble Hornets is a work of fiction. It's not real, it never was real, and it will never be real.
To complain that a single link "ruins the immersion" is like saying that anyone who says the Operator is fake is "ruining the immersion". You might as well take issue with the entire field of Physics or reality in general if you go down this path.

Seriously. Lay off, guys. They're allowed to sell their DVDs on the same channel as the stuff that's on the DVD. It's their right to do such.

If it truly bothers you so much, then you can simply navigate between the entries without going to their main Youtube page.

I agree with this statement; plus the link is in the "website" field at the bottom near the comments which hardly anyone looks at (i don't, at least)

I honestly would have never known it was there unless people had pointed it out and made a stink about it in the DVD thread. It's not that bad. You have the right to be bothered about it, and that's fine, but maybe try as others have suggested (including myself) and just don't look at it, try not to think about it. Time will pass and, unless you focus in on it, you'll forget it's there and get back to just enjoying the series.

I was fully aware Marble Hornets and the whole Slenderman mythos was fake before I started watching the Introduction, but it still has me looking over my shoulder and checking doors and closets at night out of paranoia. Knowing they're selling a DVD doesn't make it any less frightening and enjoyable.

I was wondering when this topic would turn up.
I understand that the fourth wall has already been broken and we all knew from the start that this was fake, but the mh/totheark IG pages have never had anything OOG. While it does not bother me too much, this is the first time Troy did something like this and I don't find it entirely necessary.
But it's not like there's a giant ad in the middle of the page or anything! You can just ignore it. I mean, watching the videos with the youtube player's snake easter egg takes away a lot of the immersion, but you don't have to do it.

I'm actually glad they did it. I mean, there are fans of the series that don't stalk the OOG blog, or come to forums like this (shocking, I know), who wouldn't know about the DVD otherwise, or even if they did find it, they might not know the DVD's legit. They could have thought it was a scam or something.

Or they hear about it, go looking for the store and end up in an actual scammer's shop. It's good to have the legit thing out in the open.
