Honestly, you we can play "six-degrees-of-seperation" and connect FUCKING EVERYTHING, but I see no point in it. Two different stories exist in the same universe when relative to the narrative. Sort of like the Seth Macfarlan animated comedies... Family Guy and Cleveland Show share a universe... there are references to both in each show... crossover episodes here and there... but you don't HAVE to watch both to enjoy one or the other.

I know comparing Slender Series to something like Family Guy is... a stretch. But I like that sort of thing. As far as continuity is concerned, Slender Man likes to play Lego with the space-time-continuum anyway, and while I hate to promote the idea "A Slender Man did it" as a trope, it does work.
