I just received an email from SurvivalCode Support: my badge was rejected as my image was of Marvin (see my avatar)...

I've updated it now - hope to receive something in a couple weeks.

Yayyy! Finally got my badge and some Swerve gum here in Canada. It's pretty tasty, I don't usually like fruit gum! Badge is hanging with my collection of lanyards from comic conventions. Razz

Badge purpose

Do you think the badges will let us into an event later on (movie preview, etc.)?

I'm sure they made them for a reason... So here's to hoping!

I need a bit of advice...not sure where to put this, but it's about the badges.

Two of my kids have gotten into this ARG with me. It started cos they helped me look for iceflys on gum packets everywhere, and then graduated to playing the online part of the game. They have accounts, and really wanted to upload their pictures in hopes of getting badges. I didn't let them, cos they were 11 and 14. I don't care if they upload their pictures (this seems kid-friendly), I was just afraid their accounts might be frozen cos they are clearly under 18. This is my first ARG and am loving it, but not sure how involved I should let my kids get.

It seems like this ARg may go on for a while (yay!!) and the ID badges w/ pics may lead to other swag that I'd love for them to have, plus this is something we can then continue to play together (butt-load of gum x 3...yikes)

My question: Should I let them upload their pics and see what happens? Would we get in trouble having three sets of badges, etc sent to teh same address?

Thoughts?

Here is what the privacy policy says about age restrictions:

TSN Privacy Policy wrote:
Children under the age of 13

If you are under the age of 13, you may not create an account on the Site or play our Games. You may not sign up for any subscription service or buy anything through our Services.

We will not knowingly collect, maintain, or disclose any personal information from children under the age of 13.

Youth between the ages of 13 and 18

If you are between the ages of 13 and 18, please have your parent or guardian read this Policy and get his or her permission before you give us any of your personal identifiable information, before you use any of our message board or chat features, before you sign up for any Services. Do not post your real name on a web site or message board, and never tell anyone online anything private about yourself or your family, including your phone number and address. Use screen names at all times. Some areas of the Services may have special rules for children under the age of 18. When you are in those areas, you must follow those rules.

So your 14-year-old is fine so long as he has your consent. As for the eleven-year-old, you could always fub some numbers to put him/her at 13 (which I assume you did since they're both playing online, right?). As for the picture, as long as s/he looks old enough s/he should be OK. If they come with questions about either of them, just present yourself as the parent and let them know they have your permission.

Just make sure you don't ever plan to take legal action against the PMs/producers, because you'd be laughed out of the proceedings once they found about their real ages. Razz Really, I think that's their only concern. Note the word "knowingly" where they talk about collection of information.

So I'd say go for it and be ready to e-mail them when they reject the young'uns' photos. Just make sure to avoid telling the whole truth where possible.

Edit: I wouldn't worry about having the same address listed for three different users. A lot of people have reported receiving two (or more?) badges in the mail.

Edit2: The email address they provide on the privacy page is privacySPLATtestsubjectsneeded.com, so I would recommend sending your questions and notice of consent (if/when requested) there.

Thank you both so much for your replies. And thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I don't know why it didn't even occur to me to email them or read the rules/policies of the game! I blame it on being an ARG noobie. Razz

I would not worry about having multiple badges sent to a single address. My wife and I are both playing and we use the same address. I think you will have to use different email address. Ive never had any issues in any arg using my home address multiple times.

The only problem that I could see with your kids playing is the one who is under 13 may not be able to participate in a live event (should there be one) or something like that.

Kudos to you for getting your kids involved. I wish I could get mine in, but they are only 6 and 4. Although they are great at helping me find icefly gum packs.

Just got my badge. My qr-code piece is just a black square with a white border about 2/3 the diameter of the little blinkenlight from the first package. Can't snap a pic now, and don't have a scanner, but as soon as I can I'll be snapping and uploading the codepiece.

EDIT: I heard the flavor of the free gum varies, and I don't know if it matters/has any effect/significance, but mine is the new tropical "Swerve".

Not necessary...the code has been compiled and it led to a puzzle that's already been solved. The solution was a one-time entry unfortunately, but you can still check it out: http://survivalcode.com/converge/

Once you have (had) the code, you had to input it to a field on 5 Gum's Facebook page. That opened a poll for where the next three drops would occur.

Ah, damn... Why do I always either get in on stuff too late, or when I don't, get the requisite items/info too late?

I know how you feel! The way you described the QR piece, though, it sounds like the first one we got anyway...so unless you had been the first person to upload any sort of QR piece, it still would have been late. I had the same one, so it was a bit frustrating. And I got Cobalt instead of Swerve - so pretty big disappointment...but the badge is right nifty at least.
