Sarif Industries / Deus Ex: Human Revolution

It's unclear whether this is just a fancy marketing site or a rabbit hole. It's a pretty slick interface and way to explore some game world back story. Several of the pages that the site points to have a lock symbol on them and don't link to anything yet, indicating that they might open later.

If you let the page sit for a minute or two, it launches you into a "hack the network" mini-game. "Unlock" four files without getting caught and you can view some files.

Sarif Industries is a biotech company, developing and manufacturing human augmentation devices. Those devices were a major tool and story element of the original Deus Ex, allowing the player to upgrade abilities/skills over the game. The story also looked at the rift between non-adopters, early adopters of the technology for whom augmentations were visibly obvious (entirely replaced limbs, replaced eyes), and those using the newest tech, which was much less visible.

thanks for the tip and the info!

not quite sure it's an arg....i'm not seeing much that is ARGish so far...other than being able to browse the fictional site...however it does mention career opportunities...so who knows what the next few weeks will bring (and the unlocked portions). So i will keep an eye out for now.

seems the site is just going viral now, but was around for a few weeks at least--i really would like to know who it was seeded, but I'm not finding the source; one thing in it being an ARG's favour...is it is not being directly link from the games main site

there is a download option for the unlocked files which seems strange to me; I don't know how to desteg, so I won't...but other than that, I really don't know why else we would download them for

well thematically, this is right up my ally! i'll watch for now, and see what develops... The mini game was fun and simple...

I thought it was interesting that they had news articles on there from 2007-2010, and their stock information especially... Much a due about prosthetic augmentation, the banning of augmented humans in international games, US Govt funding, and WHO establishing a viral research center 'Omega Ranch'

EDIT: Being the nosy little bugger i am, i did a reverse ip search on the website. Looks to be a server owned by Square enix, also hosting websites for Final Fantasy, mind jack, and other games from that company. This also leads me to believe that the website is being done by an internal team and not likely to be an arg. infact, look at the deus ex website
http://www.deusex.com/
it's in pre order and the trailer shows off some of the tech mentioned on the webstite. This is probably just viral marketing or something of the sort. Would have made for a great arg.

That's disappointing, but not surprising. Still, if you see anything let us know, and I'll do the same.

I wonder what the unlock sections hold, especially since they talk about "living the history", as we get closer to the projected release date (early 2011).

It's really slick and two things are locked. I'm thinking it'll be back...

Also was able to post the link on my facebook.

Anxiously hoping for this one to bloom. Deus Ex the original was one of the top best written fictional experiences I've taken part in. Hopefully they've learned from DX2 mistakes and are ready to bring their game (pun intended) back.

I haven't played an alternate reality game since, what, 2007? I miss it. So when I saw this was warming up, I'm terribly excited about it. Deus Ex helped form a big part of my childhood. This is bringing me back in a big way.

There's a video on the homepage now.

according to this article: http://innovation.bcl.co.uk/gaming/5-rules-of-alternate-reality-games/

this is officially an arg

here's hoping they do not define arg by one viral video

ETA: ahaha...they did add new content to the website

you can take pictures of yourself with the augumentations

Yay! I loved playing Deus Ex and Deus Ex Invisible War!

There seems to be a cryptic message that sometimes pops up and tries to bypass the firewall.

After clicking around on the site for a while it finally said access granted and took me to
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A Pacman-like minigame where you had to capture 4 folders and evade the trackers on your way.

After completing this I got
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A screen that says "Firewall Disabled" and presents 4 files with various classified augmentations.
There is also DEC/CHAR code on the right side of the screen.
Working on a transcript now.

Should i post screenshots too?
(If I did, putting the rest of my discoveries so far in spoilertags wouldn't have helped much)

Looks like well be needing someone who can read latin soon! xD

[Edit:]
Ok here's the CHAR-Code. I only transcribed the numbers that were fully legible ie didn't get cut off at the corner of the window.
EDIT 2 : Found a way to get the missing numbers. They are displayed on multiple screens. Will update the transcript soon!

[EDIT 3 :] New transcript :

Translated to text this gives :

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut

Looks like latin to me... Still looking for a decent translation though, as google translate didnt make much sense to me

[Edit 4 :] Sadly it looks like its only the lorem ipsum placeholder text in coded in DEC/CHAR Sad

bahahaha.....the bastards! *shakes fist

on the OTHER hand...they went through all the trouble to encode it...sooooooooo....usually lorem ipsum is a placeholder for things to COME, perhaps we should keep an eye on it and see what possibly takes its place?

*fingers crossed

good eye btw minz

My home computer was dog-a$$ slow, so I tried the site from work. Got this response from our "security":

"This site has recently been compromised and malicious content has been identified on it. It is being monitored regularly by SophosLabs and will be reclassified when it is safe again."

Not to panic, but you might want to check your AV...
