That is such a reasonable thought, that it could never have occurred to Jay. Ever.
The guy is being stalked, and he films himself constantly and puts the videos on YouTube, and after about half a year of doing so it suddenly strikes him: "wait, why the hell am I doing this? This is kinda dumb."

He has a brief moment of insight that quickly goes down the tubes again as shit gets real for him, I guess.

I want to see Tim act like a normal person.
Okay, you know what I mean.
A normal person, who just sends a tape saying something plot relevant for the season, without his mask on at the time, like "Can I just tell you everything?"

Or maybe it would be funny to see him wear the mask and talk to the camera like "Hi, Jay."

Well, I didn't give it much thought, since I came up with this:

Jay works at a coffee shop or something, part time.

He edits together the tapes near-midnight, whenever he has time and isn't working, and I just called that my explanation for why the entries were so spread far apart. The entries, some nights, aren't always his first priority, but just making some cash to live, regardless of his situation.

Ha ha ha! This! A bunch of times over this! Or even, like, just a suggestion that there is some interaction happening that doesn't involve sneaking up on, bed-lurking, or tackling!

Personally, I would be happy with more of that sort of interaction. Cool

Kelter's Law ("Silence in the Library" Effect): Forum administrators who are strict about keeping all threads on topic (merging or locking duplicate topics, splitting out off-topic chatter, encouraging users to use the search button before posting, having many sticky threads at once) will find their forums full of 100-page threads which nobody will want to read all the way through. It follows that, since most intelligent users are inclined to fully read a topic before posting to it, this will lead to an overall decline in the activity of intelligent users across the forum.

Therefore... what? How's this relate to season 3 stuff that Troy or Joseph can change?

No, Troy and Joseph certainly can't change that. Yes, I suppose this technically is off-topic. But it does ring true, doesn't it?

Here's another good one:

The Fan Handle Rule: If a board is themed after a series, users who sign up with a screen name pertaining to the series (Kefka2938) will do one of three things:

Lose interest in the forum and vanish very quickly,
Change their name when they become a respected member of the community,
Consistently act like an idiot and be liked by nobody.

(no offense, The Slender Man Very Happy )

I can't see this forum getting any more organized and retaining intelligent participants if the mods up and laxed their approach to doing their modly thing. Rather, instead of 100-page-long threads full of banter, we'll have dozens of shorter threads full of the same. There will be the same amount of off topic chatter. Changing how the mods operate won't see an increase in intelligent participant retention, as far as I can predict. Back before we had active mods, we were hemorrhaging folks who were fun to talk to about the series left, right and center.

Before that, I think that the general popularity of the just-starting series contributed to a more bucolic idea of what the forum could be. Well... bucolic in the sense that trolls were less frequent and the analyzation of tapes was way more intense. OCD, even.

The only thing I can think of that would help this would be if Troy and Joseph & co. injected some really high-brow shit into their series. Bore the users who are just in it for the action and give the users who are driven to speculate and pick apart and prove their points with that sort of material. Right now I think that they're walking the line fine, though.

Anyways, I think this attitude of, "it's the mods fault!" is immature and lame; it's clearly blame-deflection from the actual culprits and the lack of want of particular members from taking any of their own responsibility. (Which, I understand, is sort of proving the point of this law... but there is nothing saying that intelligent members can't use their intelligent critical faculties to skim the shit that's irrelevant, ignore the users who are frequently annoying, and glom together to talk about what interests them the most!)

Also, sorry Dray, I just had to post my little Rule of the Internet.

Not much, really. I'm really, really enjoying this series, just that they stop dangling plot threads and resolve them. Over the course of the third season and at an appropiate pace, but I want a sense of at least some resolution. There's just a little too much tease for my liking, even for a horror story Sad

Okay, opine mode off. This series is brilliant Smile
