Worth noting is that one does not actually need to complete the star maps to finish the puzzle - just enter the final numbers.

The dates themselves appear to be Summer and Winter Solstice, I haven't been able to confirm those dates for the year 1249 yet though

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The solstice dates for the year 1249 were December 14 and June 14 (GMT) according to the Julian Calendar, which was in use at the time. Today, we use the Gregorian calendar, which was adopted by most of Europe in 1582.
The two calendars are nearly the same, but the Julian drifts out of sync with the solar year by about 11 minutes per year, which adds up to 1 day per 131 years. That means the dates aren't the same if you go back enough!

If we extend the Gregorian calendar back to the year 1249, the solstice dates become December 21 and June 21. Given the error involved in calculating so far back, it's possible that in some time zones the solstice fell on the 22nd. Even if that's the case, it certainly wouldn't be the 22nd in Pacific Time, which is the time zone all the other times have been.

I don't think it's the dates for any recent or upcoming solstices either. The last June 22 solstice was in 1975 (Winter=Dec. 22), and the next isn't until 2203. It might be good to keep in the back of your mind, but I'm pretty sure that those dates aren't meant to be solstice dates. That being said, the proximity of the days to solstice dates striking. There almost in exactly the right place.
Also, calendars are really interesting! Smile
