It seems as though he is taping himself less and less that we notice. Maybe the more he gets drawn into Slendy's control, the less he tapes?

 		I don't think we've seen Alex taping himself all of season two. I could be wrong though.

But at the end of Season 1, Amy finds the camera in the closet, so he obviously gave up religiously taping himself at some point.

If you mean present time, than no, because we haven't seen him, just on tape.

In the tapes, yes, numerous times.

But as NewInTown2 pointed out in the last page, Alex was also not taping himself in Entry #35 when he met up with Jay at the abandoned house. But then when we see him a week or so later in Entry #42, he is obviously taping himself on a constant basis, switching out between the handheld and chestcam.

As with a lot of things involving Alex's behaviour, nothing seems consistent enough to draw any concrete conclusions.

But then the more important question is: why did he start again? I'm pretty sure encountering The Operator with Amy would be a nice incentive to start taping himself like mad again but he didn't.

I know we've shot down the theory that the Oman can only be seen on film/through a camera, but it could still be the case that the camera is his doorway into the world. Maybe that's why he distorts the film - he's using it as a tunnel. Alex stopped filming himself because he knew that was the only way to get away from Slim Shady, but then when Amy let him back into Alex's world, some kinda slave relationship or understanding came about, so now he CAUSES the Operator to appear. This would also explain the teleportation phenomenon.

I know they wouldn't have occasion to talk about it, but do we have any reason to believe there's been an occurrence wherein Tall Dark and Faceless appeared without a camera around?

EDIT: As a more direct response to you, NewInTown, Alex only films himself now when he's trying to get Stretch Armstrong to appear, not just to see what he can catch on film. It's a cause-and-effect thing now(in my theory).

In Entry 12 Alex sees slendy without using a camera...and to me it sounds like Sarah/camerawomen doesn't know who Alex is saying is in the way of the shot. Hence, why she says "what is he doing?" I guess you could say she is wondering why the strange man is there. But I feel like if you are filming in a public area, you should be expecting people to come up and see what you are doing, so the camerawoman asking what slendy is doing, doesn't quite fit.

I addressed that point exactly.

I always assumed the "What is he doing?" was in reference to TO just standing there.

Maybe the camera/tape actually can work as a vessel/container (ark?) for slendyman? So when he teleports he actually uses the videocamera to go where it points.

Maybe Alex found a way to capture the operator in his old camera and stored it away so noone would use it again. But he didn't account for his dumb blonde girlfriend Amy to find it and release him again.

 		I like the theory that the camera that Amy finds was planted.

I also think that if Alex stopped filming to avoid slendy, then he would have been mad at Jay for filming at his place. however this could account for the "you brought it/him/ here" he says.

however this revelation would have had to happen between 45 & 46.
