I must have tried like... I don't know, one hundred links already. I feel like I should save someone some time by posting my notes, but I work in an overly chaotic way that I'm pretty sure no one will understand (not even me two days later xD)...

I'll sum up the latest stuff so no one wastes more time:

- B,C and D are not referring to the videos 11, 12 and 13 (their HEX equivalents), at least not if you assume that the number means "count the letters in the actual video title".

-B, C and D are not Bangladesh (nor Bolivia and Paraguay), Cairo and Delaware respectively. Same note as above.

I think I'll just put here my thoughts on the new clue, and maybe if we all brainstorm we can collective-detective the sh*t outta this code:

- The phrase itself "everything you need is right in front of you". Who is this "you"? Is it us? Is it the uploader?.

· If it is "us", what do we all have right in front of us? A keyboard, a computer, the first note, the uploads, maybe a mobile phone...
· If it is the uploader, what can we be sure he has in front of him? He has the note, but he also has the tapes, from the first videos we also know he has a VCR and a TV, maybe something to do with a remote controller? With something on the tapes themselves?

- The "geometry" of the notes. The first one appeared to be upside down, but maybe it's just turned counterclockwise (if you focus on the answers). The second note is that way too. Maybe it is coincidental, maybe not...

- The list of answers. Some user suggested it appears to be from the answer book of some kind of trivia game... But since they appear to be all kind of thematic (Geography? Maybe History?) they can also be from a textbook?
I don't know how textbooks are there in the US, but the ones I've used sometimes had that kind of stuff on the last pages... Maybe the uploader (does he have a name?) has some textbook from his childhood somewhere in his house (you know, right there in front of him) from where the page could have been torn?

And that's all I can remember right now, sorry if it sounds kind of like I'm thinking out loud, but that's just how I work. If someone else can do the same thing, maybe we can all move this a step forward. I feel like I'm getting too biased in my own two or three ideas and may have been missing the point completely because of that.

Last note: Since we have repetition in the code (lowercase C3), I'm working under the assumption that we have a deterministic translation -i.e.
that for any letter we have one and only one way of representing it- and I'm discarding every possible cypher that does not allow that.
For example: if you use B, C and D as the keys in your keyboard and the number is the number of keys to the right you have to move, then C6 and B4 are the same key (which in my current layout is a dot, but I think in yours is "-" and thus, a valid character).
I think I have not tried to use this or any similar method in a DVORAK layout, but that way you get B, C and D all in different rows...

I feel like giving up on this. Sad

I feel like we're still missing some piece of information. If the note "everything you need is right in front of you" refers to the uploader than we have no hope of solving it. Maybe there's another clue in the box or on one of the floppy's (I really want to know what's on them).

The code reminds of one I used to write as a kid that was unsolvable by anyone else but me.

Let's try to think about this more.

C6 D1 b3 D4 c3 c4 b4 c3 b6 D6 0

Assumptions.
The solution is a video id from youtube.
We're trying to find an 11 digit code.
It is case sensitive.
The ↓ likely tells us that the specific character is lowercase. Since numbers cannot be lowercase this could also be a clue.
It ends in 0. Since this was given to us perhaps 0 (or maybe even all numbers) are omitted from the cipher solution.

Observations.
Every pair of characters starts with a letter and ends with a number.
Youtube video id's may contain a-Z,0-9,"-","_". This is a modified base 64.
It's written on a piece of paper that may contain clues.
There is no metadata in the image.

Through testing we know it is likely not hexadecimal, urlencoding, base 64, Binary Encoded Decimal, and from what I can tell not a grid cipher.

Using educated guesses swapping the characters in select pairs did not yield a result.

Normal cipher cracking techniques don't really apply since we're not trying to figure out a word, but rather a random string of alphanumeric characters with no real meaning.

Something just popped into my head - probably completely off track, but here it is:

That looks like simplified notation.

I used to play a stringed instrument as a kid and since we couldn't read sheet music (I was little) they'd give us notation like that.

The down arrows could indicate half-steps down or flat notes, etc.

How that would help us find the video, I have no idea, and it's probably completely unrelated but that was the first thing I thought when I looked at the string just now.

Did anyone else email c6d1b3d4c3c4b4c3b6d60SPLATgmail.com and get a reply?

I sent the code to a friend to see what he thought and he sent an email and got the following reply-

red/white/blue/makes/a/monkey/out/of/you

I don't know what that means. I googled it and it seems to be some American kids rhyme. I don't know if it's a clue or just a random response.

I asked him what said in his own email and he wouldn't tell me.

WHAT THE GOSH, OH MY F**K!
I am from Germany, so does anyone know this rhyme from his/her childhood and can describe, what this means!? Very Happy

So apparently the rest of that little jingle goes like this,

"Red, white, and blue makes a monkey out of you.
Red, white, and black makes the bogeyman attack."

Yea, that's not creepy. Here is the source: http://minicolor.wordpress.com/2011/07/

I saw another blog quoting that jingle and she said that they sang it as kids. When? I dunno.

I'm going to email c6d1b3d4c3c4b4c3b6d60SPLATgmail.com with the whole rhyme just for kicks and see if I survive the night.. I wonder why he sent that to your friend? Can't find any history on it either unfortunately

EDIT: Holy crap beastriker lol

That is some crazy stuff you got beastriker. I'll ask my folks, I'm only 24, I have never heard of this rhyme.

Ok, i sent him this email:
red/white/blue/makes/a/monkey/out/of/you
red/white/black/makes/the/bogeyman/attack

I then almost immediately got 28 emails in the same manner as beastriker recieved them.

Except they do not contain the nursery rhyme, they contain this,

And in only one of the emails, the message under the video link looked like this,

I have no idea what the email stalker is trying to say, and unfortunately I am out of time until later on tonight Sad Just thought I would lay this on you guys before I headed out for a while.

"close+only+counts" made me think of the saying "close only counts with horseshoes and hand grenades".

Then I was re-watching the Uncle Don video and noticed that the painting is red, white, and blue and there's a horseshoe beside it.

Doesn't solve the code but it's still weird. Question

I think he's trying to tell us that the answer lies in that video. Which means the answer lies in the lockbox.

I also think this!
The second note is not to us, it is to him and means the lockbox!

Confused

That's exactly what I was thinking on my way home. If those email messages referred to the uncle interview vid, the key to the code has GOT to be in that box. The 2nd not is obviously for mydadstapes, he has practically been staring at it for days lol Not to long ago he tweeted something like the lock seemed to be wearing down.
S**t will hit the fan once that box is opened and we see that freaking youtube video. I can't wait >:}
