Fun code breaking there people.

It's a shame, work does not leave much time for me to check this.
After writing the code first thing I did was replace the characters as the previous note, placing symbols randomly to those who were new.
The symbols as they are written in the note will not let me paste it here, I had to make with two different fonts ... are thus modified as explained:

The lack of punctuation makes it really difficult to figure out if it's a straight substitution cipher.

It looks like a grid, 5 across and 23 down, but I don't have a spread sheet program and don't actually know how to use one.

The symbols he filled in with color have to be important, I tried just working with those and ignoring the rest, but didn't come up with anything useful.

I wonder if the filled in spaces are supposed to be punctuation or word breaks or something.

I wish I could help more with the ciphers, elkapo, but I am no codebreaker. I'll spend some more time staring at it though. Does anyone else see a faint word upside down at the bottom of the grid? The final character also looks strange/possibly photo-shopped to me. It appears to be an upside-down lowercase h shape, but it doesn't appear anywhere else.

As for the stuff in storage, I wonder if MDT recognizes the handwriting... who would address him as "Uncle Don" besides MDT, his sister, or their cousins (who are thus far uninvolved of course, as far as we know)?

Hello. Returning from work here. Several comments:
The letters with white inside are due to the fact that the text has been copied from another bitmap document by a masked rough, only have to look at that correspond to the characters with 'eyes', ie within enclosed spaces. This means that the text has been created on a blank canvas and then copied and pasted onto another image. There are many ways to avoid the effect of white filling of the voids, but DNC is not a great photoshop user.
The tiny text at the bottom right of the back of the card, illegible, belongs to the image used as general fund, of which one third to the left corresponds to several pixels stretched to get enough space in which to paste the message, hence the fold is not located in the real center of the image. Therefore it seems irrelevant that part like the fact that some signs are filled with white. I am not a code breaker, much less, thanks to you recently and I discovered this world. This pile of signs tells me nothing, I share the typing of the signs because I could get some more and if someone was too lazy to stop and write, is what little I can contribute.

Regarding the envelope, is something that I asked Chris for some time and got no reply (you could see on the hand of his gf during a tiny time when things picked up the box) This makes me think that it is a good track that they decided to leave for later. We will have to work on it, although so far as I'm concerned, my real job I did not leave much time for it.

Thanks for your help with the cipher elkapo and thanks for letting me know that the filled in symbols and tiny print at the bottom were just artifacts from the original image so I can disregard that part.

Well, back to the message on the postcard of the pen, I had no time to continue with it, but I thought that perhaps the purpose of this note goes beyond the message that is written.
I think that somehow they want to relate the note to det. Adams with the Zodiac as well. Something strange about what I had peeked, is the fact that the block of symbols is so close to the left margin of the sheet that it is even cut. In the other margin, there are four points scattered. I think these dots will somehow form a group with the signing of DNC. Would be the fact that the signature joined the group which would have pushed the block of symbols to the opposite edge of the sheet.
I thought could be located on a map, to coincide with places we know, may indicate another or others of interest, but... to look for?
Another noteworthy in this regard is that Chris has framed in the picture these points, if not important, it would have been logical to focus only the text block in the photo, no?
What does this have to do with the Zodiac? Well, in one of his letters enclosed a map that according to some theory could pinpoint the location of certain crimes.

indeed, in my translation of the first note, the word "hurt" may be incorrect. In the attached picture points to a "t" and the symbol corresponding to the last letter of the word. So it has to be a term that includes "ur" and end at some point not used in the rest of the text (f, g, q, x) and can have a preceding letter. My lack of English prevents me from a successful association, I am sure that you will find the right word more easily.
