Hi,

just wanted to contribute some, did the following:

Hex to ASCII runs were unsuccessful, so tried swapping high and low bits. Also, for this try arrows were supposed to mean "negate me", so here are the results:
Code:
d6 - 6d m
b6 - 6b k 0-b6=4a J swap(0-b6=4a)=a4 - 0-6b=95 - swap(0-6b=95)=59 Y
c3 - 3c < 0-c3=3d = swap(0-c3=3d)=d3 - 0-3c=c4 - swap(0-3c=c4)=4c L
b4 - 4b K 0-b4=4c L swap(0-b4=4c)=c4 - 0-4b=b5 - swap(0-4b=b5)=5b [
c4 - 4c L 0-c4=3c < swap(0-c4=3c)=c3 - 0-4c=b4 - swap(0-4c=b4)=4b K
c3 - 3c < 0-c3=3d = swap(0-c3=3d)=d3 - 0-3c=c4 - swap(0-3c=c4)=4c L
d4 - 4d M
b3 - 3b ; 0-b3=4d M swap(0-b3=4d)=d4 - 0-3b=c5 - swap(0-3b=c5)=5c \
d1 - 1d -
c6 - 6c 1
0

d1/1d run was sort of a failure, so I thought it must be some symbol like "-" as I saw it on some YT videos. Later I noticed that underscores also appear on occasion, so I missed those, had no chance to test those though, I had no time. Thus was the following pattern made:

Code:
m[kJY]L[KL][LK]LMM-10

But not a single video was found that day. Sad

Code:
mkLKLLMM-10 -
mkLKKLMM-10 -
mkLLLLMM-10 -
mkLLKLMM-10 -
mkJKLLMM-10 -
mkJKKLMM-10 -
mkJLLLMM-10 -
mkJLKLMM-10 -
mkYKLLMM-10 -
mkYKKLMM-10 -
mkYLLLMM-10 -
mkYLKLMM-10 -

That was definitely not the solution.

In my google searches, I noticed someone in our community posted a question in yahoo answers, linking to our specific issue and asking if anyone knows this type of code.
That gave me the bright idea to post in some cryptography forums about this code. Hopefully some freaking genius in those forums can help lol I'll post if anything turns up.

New video. Apparently people have requested a writing sample of the father's. He posted one, and to my untrained eye it looks nothing like what we got for the youtube url puzzle. Which isn't surprising because up to this point we are working on the assumption that his father is dead. Whether or not that is true remains to be seen, but I don't think he sent us this mystery piece of paper.

Just joined the forum after coincidentally watching the tapes and the David Fincher film 'Zodiac' yesterday.

Anyway I noticed that in the code there were no letters subsequent to D and no numbers higher than 6 which lead me to making an alphanumeric grid like this:

Code:

      A   B   C   D

   1   a   b   c   d

   2   e   f   g   h

   3   i   j   k   l

   4   m   n   o   p

   5   q   r   s   t

   6   u   v   w   x

That gave me this code: watch?v=WDjPkonkvX0 - assuming that the down arrows meant that the letter was lower-case and the Ø meant zero.

Sadly that didn't work, but I'm wondering if I'm along the right lines.

It's a good idea, but there's no "A" either. So it'd be more along the lines of

Code:
    B   C   D

1   a   b   c

2   d   e   f

3   g   h   i

4   j   k   l

5   m   n   o

6   p   q   r

Strictly speaking, this isn't wholly accurate but it's still closer to what we have to work with. This updated grid would give us "watch?v=QCgLhkjhpR0" which.... doesn't work either. ROT18'ing the video ID (DPtYuxwucE5) didn't work either. Same with ROT13 (DPtYuxwucE0).

Ed; I am nothing if not thorough, and an ROT5 (QCgLhkjhpR5) didn't work either.

2nd Ed; I asked a few friends over Skype if they had any idea and one reckons he's seen something like this before. I'll edit in any new findings, or failures, when we're done.

3rd Ed;

omitting "A" in all forms was suggested

Code:
    B   C   D

1   b   c   d

2   e   f   g

3   h   i   j

4   k   l   m

5   n   o   p

6   q   r   s

"RDhMilkiqS0" doesn't work either. Neither does an ROT5/13/18.

4th Ed;

"198 209 179 212 195 196 180 195 182 214 0" mod32 those gives "6 17 19 20 3 4 20 3 22 22 0" would be "FQsTcdtcvV0" numerology but that's not it either.

5th Ed; Anyone asked what his dad did as a living? Might be relevant.

6th Ed; "He did anything he could to make a buck. Odd jobs, sold cars, get rich quick schemes, bartender, pool hustler, landlord, cook. Those are the one that I remember most."

I think that thing at the end is a signature, not a 0.

That's just one way of typing zero and making it discernible from the capital letter "O" in hand writing. There's a user and an email address (where the picture came from) that confirms that the last letter is in fact a 0.

I tried several things with the code, the first was making a ROT-n to each letter, with n = number besides each letter. No dice.

Then, I tried using some boolean algebra to the HEX numbers, the closest I came to something relevant was with bit inversion, since most of the inverted numbers fell closer to the letter range in ASCII, but I still got jack.

Then I remembered something called BCD code. But immediately after I remembered that's just some way of codifying the ten digits (so, no capital nor lowercase there, and therefore useless).

I like your idea of the tables, though (the picture may be hinting us in that direction?). I'll work for a while on it.

So that the code is not decoded yet, I testet the actual solution-theme, but changed the letters and numbers, because on the sheet of paper, there are three lines and more symbols per line, so look:

Code:
    1   2   3   4   5   6

A   a   b   c   d   e   f

B   g   h   i   j   k   l

C   m   n   o   p   q   r

D   s   t   u   v   w   x

Arrow RSiVopjolX0 + ROT13/18 (with and without 0) Arrow NOTHING!

--

Code:
    1   2   3   4   5   6

B   a   b   c   d   e   f

C   g   h   i   j   k   l

D   m   n   o   p   q   r

Arrow LMcPijdifR0 + ROT13/18 (with and without 0) Arrow NOTHING!

--

Code:
    1   2   3   4   5   6

B   b   c   d   e   f   g

C   h   i   j   k   l   m

D   n   o   p   q   r   s

Arrow MNdQjkejgS0 + ROT13/18 (with and without 0) Arrow NOTHING!

So this also leads to nothing! there arn't more different tables/charts to create, so this maybe isn't the right way... Some other great dudes with even greater ideas? This just look like hex, but this didn't work either...

I WANT TO SEE THIS GODDAMN VIDEO! Laughing

EDIT: Wait! I have an idea! Why start with a? Starting with z! Give me time! We will get this video!!! Very Happy

EDIT2: Beginning with Z and ROT didn't work either...
there are too many options!

e.g:
Code:
    1   2   3   4   5   6

B   f   e   d   c   b   a

C   l   k   j   i   h   g     -> or also the other way "g h i j k l" (like a snake)

D   r   q   p   o   n   m

...the same if you begin with Z and also if you change numbers and letters (lines and rows)...A|B|C|D or only B|C|D...it is 02:37 a.m. in germany right now!
If someone has time to check the whole stuff out, it would be nice!
I will give it a try after sleep again, my head is dead...
WE CAN DO IT!!!

You aren't alone my friend, I had to sign up to this site just to let you know that. I too have been trying a few different techniques.

First I tried the chart, but looped the alphabet once. I plugged in all possibilities using this method and no dice.

I tried making it like a multiplication problem as well, with both keys of A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4, and one omitting A from the equation. Thus the problem read something like:
3(6) 4(1) 2(3) etc etc. I used the result of the number with the corresponding alphabetical character (A=1...Z=26) while applying the arrows for lowercase. Still no results.

For every letter given I tried to add on the number and provide the new letter. This looked like: C6=C(DEFGHI) with the "correct" output being the last letter (I). Plugging in the code this way did not work.
Slightly modified this technique so that it would be the letter AFTER the last. Did not work.

Perhaps on your tables you guys would like to repeat and throw in the letters to loop. So, in this table:
Code:
 1   2   3   4   5   6

A   a/y   b/z   c   d   e   f

B   g   h   i   j   k   l

C   m   n   o   p   q   r

D   s   t   u   v   w   x

Or any other.

I started watching the video to try to find more clues and there wasn't much, however the beginning with the note gave me a few ideas.
At first it appears the note is upside down. Perhaps this is a hint that the arrows do not stand for lower case, but upper case? Just a possibility, sorry I couldn't be of any more help.

Cheers.

Has anyone tried a 6x6 polybius square? Using A-F and 1-6 you can fit the entire alphabet and numbers 0-9 in the square. We would just need to find out how they are arranged in the grid.

ie

A B C D E F
1 a b c d e f
2 g h i j k l
3 m n o p q r
4 s t u v w x
5 y z 0 1 2 3
6 4 5 6 7 8 9

That new video's up;

YouTube: Link

Haven't seen it yet, but maybe there'll be a clue hidden in it or something. Or at least a different puzzle.

It seems like the riddles keep adding up.

Edit 1: Did some screen caps of video #16. The brothers t-shirt had a location on the arm for a resort called miccosukee indian village
http://www.miccosukeeresort.com/indian_village.htm
It's located in Florida.
Also interesting in the video is a painting with the following words. "Where did she go? I miss her"

Not sure of the significance of any of this info. But might be useful.

EDIT 2: I sent an email with a link to opening a Sentry 1100 lock box without a key. I'll keep you updated to see if I get any response.
