Super 8: What did you think?
For those that saw early and those that saw it Friday

Hey all, most of you don't know me, but I was here when this ARG first started. I just wanted to know what you thought about Super 8. Those that saw it before 6/10/11, please add a spoiler tag till its officially out. Thank you, and hope everyone enjoys it.

Just got home about 30min ago. No spoilers here. Loved it, and the train wreck/derailment scene was unbelievable in IMAX. It was all I expected and then some. Dare I say, magical even. Worshippy

Well, some surprises, overall quite good..

After seeing the flick I cant help but wonder what the point of this ARG was.. There was no way it could ever be tied into the film..
See everyone next time..

Bye for now..

What's the Point?

I think the point of the ARG is to hype up the movie ...and give us a back story. In addition to other things.

Face it fellow super8'ers...we participated in the prequel to the super8 movie.

Through our participation in this ARG we know how the story in the movie all came about.

And we had fun doing it. Plus you learned some Historical facts as well as a little Science along the way!

Although I do ponder which would be better...finding this forum or not finding this forum?

Will I watch the movie looking for clues and Easter Eggs, or will I just watch the movie and enjoy it for what it is...a great movie.

I think I will watch the movie tonight and worry about the clues when the DVD comes out.

But it's gonna be hard not to look for a clue or two...damn...you guys ruined me!!! Laughing

And Thanks to you all! It was fun being ruined!

The ARG explains what happens before the movie, but most importantly, events after the movie.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Somehow, Woodward didn't die and has been in hiding for awhile. Considering they are still offing people, this may mean the town of Lillian was massacred and wiped off the face of the planet.

Hilarious.

The Best part

Clearly when Joe stands up to protect his friends.

The worst part-

The end- when I saw what happened to the water tower- and I remembered the thread with the two pictures of Lillian - and I was going to say, hey theres something very different about the pictures.
Turns out it was relevant and I kept my mouth shut.

Gotta say it was one of the most well-rounded movies I've seen. Comedy, horror, drama, etc...Not in that order though. The pyromaniac kid was a riot, and the creature (as said before) was very original. The first you see of it's face is a "wow" moment. While the ARG seemed disappointing at times, it was a great movie and glad I went to see it on opening night.

For those that haven't seen it, stay for the credits Smile

I can say right from the start that JJ kept his usual pattern of teasing you with glimpses without a full view of the terror. Thankfully I'd say he learned from Cloverfield that including a 'money shot' is sort of expected and a bit of a put off if you don't get at least just the one.

I also see that Steven and JJ can really do some great cinematography and pull together some great performances. I never felt like the characters were laboring to appear emotionally involved, or that I was being hit over the head with it.

There was a guy in a white lab coat that did explain things though.
(Yes, it was subtle.)

Funny how I posted that the creature was "original looking and awesome" on my thread and that the story was really good and full of emotion, and all of a sudden someone complains that there should be spoiler tags!...

Oh wait...does that mean I should tag this whole thing as a spoiler? :O

Anyways, the movie was indeed very good, and as for the ending:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
For the most part, the ending portrayed the moral of the story. It's all about letting go of the past and moving forward, because the plain fact of the matter is, bad things happen, and it hurts, but you have to cherish what you have, and accept it Smile

I saw S8 last night (6/10) to get the movie experience - I LOVED it for many different reasons!
I'm going back this afternoon to focus more on some of the local extras I know who made it through the cutting room and on the ARG and easter egg experience. It moves quickly though - so I'm sure I'll still miss some stuff. Can't wait til the DVD is out.
I do think the ARG was great for the backstory in connection to Woodward, Nelec, and the alien Cooper. It gave the story more depth for me.
