Moving is good. I'm surprised how few employ this. Even if your Slenderman outfit is unwieldy for motion, there's nothing stopping you from doing the creepy Samara thing and having Slenderman do jump-cut teleportation toward the protagonists.

I think Slendy isn't moving as much nowadays, even in the big-shot vlogs like Marble Hornets, because the vloggers are starting to use puppets for slendy rather than actors. Lack of actors could also be the problem itself -- there's simply no one to play Slendy at the time and they need both X and Y characters to be on set at the same time, so they have to go with puppet.
Honestly, it's a choice between motionless, 7-foot tall puppet Slendy that looks eerily real or an obviously-too-short actor Slendy that can move but is obviously an actor. Unless you're good with After Effects/Vegas, it isn't easy to do both.

Talking about ways to make Slendy's movements seem unnatural (also a reference to The Ring above reminded me about this): when they were shooting The Ring, to get Samara's unnatural movements when she was walking, they filmed her walking backwards and then reversed the footage. I think something similar could be employed with Slendy.

What moves has momentum
What has momentum can be stopped.
I prefer a slendy that does not walk as much.

Slender Man does move in supernatural ways, in MH there was an entry where Alex was running and everytime he turned around, he was always there; no matter where he looked.
It's like teleports or something.

depends on how much momentum were talking about. To me, slenderman's scare factor IF he were to move would have the momentum of being able to break a damn brick wall, and then cause us to shit out a brick wall. XD

Walking? No, I think Slendy starts to look more like a guy in a suit when he's moving around (circa entry 6 in MH where it just looks like a guy in a suit, not scary, not creepy, just a dude in a suit) so the less he moves around in a "traditional" sense, the better.
Teleportation, though, works like a treat and I love how MH does that.
I think slendy could benefit from a touch more movement (such as in a particular entry, which i forget, where his long limb slowly opens Alex's bedroom door) but not locomotive motion.

I'm also reminded of a fairly early entry in Angel's Game, before things got too complicated and it was just Josh, Alex, and Alana (RIP) against Slendy (yes I know it wasn't actually Slender Man, but whatever I never really tried to understand the ending in AG). They come back to the car to see a door removed, music blaring, and The Slender Man slowly but surely walking towards them, horror movie-style. They freak out and try to run, but he keeps getting closer and closer.
An awesome moment to be sure.
never watched AG but would love to see this. what video was it?

It starts at about 5:00 if you just want to see that scene.

I agree, When I first got into the Slenderman Mythos (Started off with the big three) I was terrified of slendy everytime I seen him in the background. But when he fucking moved. I swear there was a few times I just paused the video. turned the lights on. And walked out of the room and drank like 5 bottles of beer to calm my nerves.
Although I can understand how it'll lose the creepiness effective if over used. I think it should be one of the tricks the makers should only use if the scene is right. Like I dunno, say for discussion sake. The main character has just found bags of organs like in EMH and turns to a friend to say something and you see tall and faceless in the background slowly moving towards them, or going full tentacle or a simple head snap thing. As opposed to just standing there.
But that's just my take on the whole thing.

But to pick on DH a little bit, while the lean in was awesome, the park chase was a little goofy when you could see him "running".
Nobody watches the updates. They seriously clear up some confusion.

The reason they perfected that was because A) We have never seen this behavior before and B) The shakiness of a camera. It reminds me of something I saw out of a movie, like you know what it is but you cant really tell- however its not stopping for anyone.

I've always imagined showing the slenderman moving, but from the waist up, would be very creepy. It is something about his legs actually moving that doesn't fit well.
just my humble opinion.

Another thing that could be done (possibly combined?) is to take out say every other frame. IIRC that's what they do for the modern "fast" zombies to make them seem faster and move in an unnatural jerky fashion.

If you want that effect I'm sure something could be rigged up where the actor is standing on a skateboard and gets pulled forward by some hidden wire. As an added bonus as long as the viewer can't see the wire or the skateboard you can film his legs and see that he's moving forward but he's not walking like a human does .
Hell, maybe someone's group has a tech geek that can make some sort of remote control rig so the wire is unnecessary.
